Doctor Aeon killed my parents, so now I'm boykotting AE.

Hnmm. so no world wide disaster. You have not died to the best of my knowledge. What's the big deal?
I personally like telling people about features they didn't know about. They think it's cool they can do it and I find it fun to help people out. I could care less if they made it to level 50 and didn't understand slots. When I first started playing I didn't know I could have more than one of the same type of enhancment in a power. I thought I had to fill them with different types that it would accept. Yeah I was gimped I guess. I made it all the way to 30 before I happened to mention my confusion over the Passive resist powers. That was back when the game was actually hard too.
Everyday I find that I can tell new players and veterans alike about features they didn't know about. Some significant. Some relatively small, such as an emote. Sometimes I get to learn new things even now. Getting to level 50 your way or their way doesn't make you some all knowing master of this game. There is alot here to do.
I think that new players know that there is more to this game than the AE but they have been deluded by other games that you have to get to 50 before you can really play. It isn't CoH's fault they think that way nor is it the AE's fault that they do it. We have had players doing this for a long time.
If a player gets bored they may start looking around for other things. We aren't exacly shoving them out of the tutorial and planting them directly in front of the AE console.
They HAVE to know there is more to do than just what you see in the AE buildings. Newbies are not retards. They are just unfamiliar with the systems in a game they just started. If they stay in the AE buildings it is because they are having fun doing it. When they get bored they will come out.
Until then. Let them be. Hell, Team up with them and take them for a few non farming AE runs if you are sooo concerned they aren't learning the game properly. Otherwise let them be. If anything the fact we have new players is a big indication that CoX s thriving regardless of what they are doing. More customers is a good thing in the business world.
You should be telling this to someone else then. I am neither the propagator nor the instigator of any argument pro or con to your beliefs.
Prior to Kiralyns comment I had posted two small blurbs in agreement with two other people.
Nothing I said should have been a spark for that little speech.

I know this. I'm one of them that have never gotten sucked into the system either.
There is a rampant influx of those that have. In the player question system there is a post by a 50 who didn't know that the slots they kept adding to their powers were meant to hold enhancements... thats just one of many examples.
[/ QUOTE ]
In other words, the new player skipped the tutorial, since that is one of the steps; not just adding an enhancement, but combining them.
Perhaps the tutorial should be required for a player's first character.
Hopefully, the devs can find a way to halt some of the abuse without hammering non-abusive AE players at the same time.

One man's flaw is another man's path of play. It's like saying "play the way you want, but not THIS way." Contradictory, whether you want to admit it or not.
[/ QUOTE ]
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
The XP in AE "can" be abused and, I feel, should be addressed. That doesn't mean I think people should stop playing AE. In fact, for pure entertainment, AE wins my attention nearly every time (although having played almost all the standard content might have something to do with that). For your statement to work, you have to believe AE always equals farm experience. I, obviously, don't view it that way. I see AE as a way to express myself creatively as well as view works from other creative people. In fact, if you enjoy defeating 30 MOBs at once, I don't have a problem with it. I just feel the current rewards don't match the actual risk involved and should be lowered.
And in that regard, there was a "farm" mission involving Lord Recluse zombie clones, the Freakshow, and a lot of bad, bad things. If you just went in and killed the MOBs, yes, it was a farm mission. However, there was a decent story with good writing behind it all -- a reason for so many AVs and Freakshows on the map. I ran the mission, enjoyed it, gained several levels in several hours (we played it to the end), and the story had a cool wrap up. You want a grey area on farming? There you go. "Farming" missions where the missions doesn't just say, 'click the bomb to exit'. That's why I'm afraid when the AE fixes come down, some decent missions are going to be hurt if they limit the number of bosses/EBs/AVs. Hopefully the fix will address the rewards, not the means to the end.

*chuckle* Of course not. The Dreck and werewolf missions were timered just out of the blue.
What is really different about AE farming and P.I. farming, other than?
AE Farming: Often happens in a starting zone, as opposed to a zone that a completely new player would first have to go well out of thier way to find.
AE Farming: Farm missions can be custom-built to the users powersets and preferences.
AE Farming: Has to generate more {(Rewards per Unit_Of_Time) divided by Risk_Or_Inconvienience}, or the farmers wouldn't use it in preference to existing high-value missions.

Shouldn't all these "I hate AE" threads be in the farming thread? I mean, that's all everyone's [censored] about anyways.
Do we need an official "Architect is ruining the game" thread? I mean, I was enthusiastic to discuss it at first, but I'm getting a little weary of the reruns.

I'm tired of the reruns too, Sam. It's the same people, on the same sides, saying the same things in each thread.

What Im concerned about is that new payers are taking advantage of this are power leveling and are missing out on what this game really is. It took me over a year it hit 50 for the first time.

I started at the beginning of closed beta, and yes it took quite a while to get to 40 (then to 50 after they added ten levels) way back when. There was really only one way to get there, grinding missions. Alt-itis was not a prevalent disease yet because most of us were focused on getting that first character to 50 asap.
Here's my point: New players also want to get their first character to 50 asap, they just have an easier option: the MA system. Most likely they'll do what we early players did, get to 50 and experience the "endgame content" while proceeding to level other toons.
A fair number of people, once they've satisfied the ego's requirement to be Number One (i.e., level 50), can then slow down and experience the rest of the game the old fashioned way, secure in the knowledge that they can break out a 50 if the situation calls for it.
The psychology of MMO players is probably starting to be better understood, and I would not be at all surprised to learn that the devs are not "fixing the broken game" simply because the game isn't broken at all. New players are getting their "50 fix" quicker and getting invested in the rest of the game at their own pace.
Even the Biggest MMO is doing this same sort of thing: smoothing down the learning curve despite the outraged cries of the long-time players who had to level uphill both ways in the snow.

Well, if I were running the boards, we'd enact my three-step plan:
1.) Create a single, official thread for all these rants. Sticky it, so it goes to the top of that section.
2.) Have a large, formal announcement that the thread exists, and that all complaints/rants/whathaveyou are to be posted in that thread. Any other threads on the subject will treated as spam.
3.) Lock all the current threads, and, after the announcement has been up for long enough to give sufficient warning, hit anyone who makes a new thread with a three-day temp ban for spamming.
No longer would the boards be bogged down with six threads a day about there aren't teams anymore, or how no one does TFs anymore, or how the economy is being killed, or how the AE is in league with the terrorists and the communists and any other -ists we feel like hating today.
We'll always have Paragon.
