What's the point of the doors to the AE buildings?

Hero side there is a store that has a door you exit from on the side that instantly poofs you out instead of fading to black and back.

The devs secretly have a means of detecting how many times some clod runs up to the doors, thinking they'll automatically open, only to run smack into it facefirst.

This may seem like a stupid question.

No way is that a stupid question. There is no such thing as a stupid question. Only stupid people that ask questions.

Originally, from what I've heard, there was a point where doors opened and the inside of the buildings were seamless with the outside. These led to problems with mobs following players into the shops, and then attacking patrons that were shopping or afk. So they moved the "inside" of the buildings to far underground.

[/ QUOTE ]

Actually, I had wondered briefly if they would fix this with other buildings to make them like AE, until I remembered that this does not happen with AE due to the overwhelming numbers of police drones surrounding it.

The answer is soo simple...

Dust... The doors keep away most of the dust that cames from street...

It would be 'fun' to have the doors be animated revolving doors which are intangible and you can just walk right through them. That would solve the problem of having a door for aesthetic reasons and not have to go through the blackout-and-warp rigamarole just to move three feet.

[/ QUOTE ]
It would also be even more energy efficient than the current design with respect to heating and cooling the building.

Rather than animated revolving doors, they should be made into PhysX revolving door objects that behave like the doors on the telephone booths. Players can either carefully push through or get treated with pieces of doors exploding and flying all over as they run through.

Gazebos don't.

Anway, what strikes me as weird about the AE buildings is that you can see the mob chatter text if you get close enough without entering the building. I don't know of other buildings that work that way.

I wish power would turn off in the AE teleporter room.

Then you'd have to re-toggle all your powers every single mission . . . far more annoying that the occasional inconsiderate yahoo.

It would be nice if the no-powers room had it's own MA mission access though, for those of us who either don't have toggles or are willing to put up with it.

When you find me a gazebo that has a fully functional multi-floor holographic interface, vendors, a hospital, and a 'quiet room' ... maybe I'll go for that idea.

It's a high rise building. Are they open to the air? Every building I've ever seen - building, mind, not "structure" like a gazebo or other free-standing item - HAS DOORS or can be locked in some way when no one is there. It's ... unrealistic to expect to NOT have a door in between you and the extremely complicated computer systems and devices that would be housed in such a building.

I'd expect a LOT more drones and cops standing around if there were no doors to this building.

Wentworths has drones and specialized equipment to keep out the "bad" people - but it also has doors. If you use the teleporter to it, you come through a door! It also has the "illusion" of back doors, rollups for trucks. Obviously, they are there as windowdressing for us in the game, but it's a realistic way of looking at a building.

It's not "What's", as in "what is the point", but "What're", as in "what are the points" of the doors. Being rectangles, there are four points.

If the glass could break, there would be thousands of points. But that's beside the point.

Parking structures.

Hmm. Maybe that's why I can see the chat text from people inside. The AE buildings are the Parking Lot of the Darned.

[/ QUOTE ]You can see the chat text because, unlike most buildings (as has been mentioned), the interior really is on the other side of that wall. Thus, like in many missions, you can "hear" NPC chat even though there's a solid wall between you.

So if the interior is really right there, how come we can only see out of the windows, and not in?

[/ QUOTE ]no, it's just EVERYONE has their powers on and it slows my relatively fast computer to almost a screeching halt.

Yeah, that's basically what I'd suspected. Still, I'm not used to encountering jibba-jabba while leaping tall buildings in a single bound.

[/ QUOTE ]Don't use the AE in cap/atlas? It's not like there's one in basically every single non-hazard zone on both sides of the game just 'cause it looks so damn sexy.

Yeah I have taken to the one in Brickstown, and even Talos is good because it's got a closer ww and near the base entrance.

Keep your Talos. KR has always had the better WW, why not the better WW/Base Porter/AE as well...

Then again, I also start all my character in Galaxy and sometimes use the Galaxy AE...the best AE PuGs on virtue (not farms, actual missions, actual good player created PuG missions) (And yes, I mentioned virtue, so no MRPing either) happen in Galaxy.
