Is there no realistic themed SG's out there?
So, what ARE you looking for, more specifically?
-Pogoman, Master of Kick-Fu
-Co-Leader and recruiting officer of the Virtue Honor Guard
- lvl 50 ma/sr scrapper
-Ace O' Diamonds lvl 50 fire/rad controller
and waaaay to many other alts to mention right now
...Realistic? Like a group of people who instead of fighting crime, sit around and complain about their jobs and how much their life sucks? Seriously, whatya expectin on a Superhero game?
As I was going up the stair
I met a man who wasn't there.
He wasn't there again today.
I wish, I wish, he'd stay away.

OMG THAT'S PERFECT!
... I don't see why the question deserves the ridicule it gets.
I am not altogether sure what you perceive as realistic; is it a less genre oriented group? A more generic, not-themed one? A less black-and-white hero one?
I do think an elaboration would help people answer.

When people have nothing intelligent to add, they flame. That is why there's all the ridicule.
You mean like a SG where the theme was "A bunch of regular folks who just happen to also have powers"?
Not the guys who are the front-liners saving the world or the guys who are at the red-carpet premiers and autograph signings, but The Other Guys.
Check with Heroid to see if The Other Guys are hiring. They're a great bunch of folks who gave me my start on this server.
Maybe he just means a not-silly SG. I wish I could find some myself.
Of course, my own personal SG is srs bsns, but I don't let other people in.
The other SG I'm in is even more srs bsns but I don't want just anyone to join.

I'm guessing he would mean more realistic in the sense of X-Men, Watchmen, etc... Groups where the heroes aren't all perfect, shiny, happy, friendly and instead have drama, problems, bothersome ticks and shades of grey...
Just a guess.

Wait, what?
"Groups where the heroes aren't all perfect, shiny, happy, friendly and instead have drama, problems, bothersome ticks and shades of grey"?
This was posted in the Virtue forums, right?
i honestly hope the OP does post here again to clarify what he meant, because i really am interested in what constitutes realistic in a setting that routinely has extradimensional invasions and zombie attacks while fighting off gangs that fly around and shoot various sorts of blasts at you.
Dr. Todt's theme.

Where is the ridicule?
Where is the flaming?
Some of you guys really need some Ex-Lax and/or a Trojan.
Hopefully the OP has a sense of humor.

It's not nearly as hard to achieve as all that, you know, and not nearly as much an oxymoron.
But, hey, if I dare actually go into a coherent discussion of realism as relevant to the setting, someone's bound to bludgeon me over not having a sense of humour.

Given the sheer number of SG's out there I think most any theme you could want is available. But yes more specific would be better. But given that super heroes are an inherently non-realistic concept the word realistic really is not much help.
Heroes : Angrem (50 Stone tank), Exo Inferis (50 Fire blaster), Exo Proteus (50 ill/emp), IceVengance (50 cold defender)
Villains : AtomBomb (50 Rad/Kin corruptor), Aleks (50 SS/Inv brute), StoneLethal (50 EM/Stone brute), Davroz (50 Bots/Dark mastermind)

Right, but i want clarification as to what the OP meant since there are several ways realistic can be interpreted the context of this game....

Seems to me to be a pretty safe assumption, given the types of SG he ruled out.
I think he means more along the lines of S.C.O.R.P.I.O no? I'm not a member but certainly would love to be. They are more based around natural mercenaries I believe.

I would actually think he is looking for groups more like G.A.R. back when I was more active... at a guess
just a group of nearly everyday folks trying to do good in the world, even though there was a demon, vampire, vampire/elf, couple of "Guys", reformed criminals, an alien invader trying to be a hero, several hot females, just a typical every day kinda club
I would just prefer that the OP clarify what a "realistic themed SG" is in his view.
OP, take it away...

Yes, cause we just don't have enough anti-heroes on Virtue.
Wow, never expected this to get the huge response it has. To clarify....realistic in a comic book sense? I mean that personally I hate the "Up, up and away" feel of all those Siver and Golden age groups, and on blueside they are many! Then you look at the next possible set in themed or atleast in RP groups and you get either the tecnicolored ninja squadrons or the school girl /cat girl anime SG.
Not eveyone that has powers is out saving the world for the fame and glory. Not all super powered people go to hero high.
On redside I am a member of 2 VGs. 1 is a corporate research facility. My toon is basically a field tester. The other is a Merc Organization in which I am part of the "shock and awe" team (basically the wrecking crew". Neither is villians for villany or any stereotipical crap like that. Not that there is anything wrong with it but it is not my style.
Funny thing is I am looking at SCORPIO for an interview.
If SCORPIO doesn't pan out for you, give the Guardian Angels a look if you like. Though it does sound like they might be closer to what you're looking for, so good luck with 'em. I don't know any of them but their concept is very cool.

Pardon my saying so, but you're asking for a realistic version of something fictional. You say "not everyone that has powers..." Well, that's fiction. If you want realistic, nobody has powers.
But in response to your question, only a couple of my characters are what I'd consider "Superman rank." Most of my characters are naturals. And all of my characters have some sort of inherent weakness or flaw.
The main problem with roleplaying weaker, natural characters is it works the opposite way for realism. It's hard to explain why my girl with a sword can withstand bullets or not evaporate when some all-powerful magician in Pocket D decides to zap her with fire.
Dispari has more than enough credability, and certainly doesn't need to borrow any from you.

I have heard this argument so many times... It never holds water, one way or another.
There is such a thing as R"eality", and that has a defined meaning - unless we ever find positive proof for alternate realities, of course - which is this everyday world in which I sit and type down a response to a game forum in a game where people engage in a sort of structured storytelling.
Then there's "realism", which is a different animal alltogether.
[ QUOTE ]
In literature realism refers to verisimilitude of narrative (whether or not a story is believable) or to verisimilitude of characterization (whether or not the characters are believable). Verisimilitude was introduced in literature when - in the latter half of the second millenium - the novel replaced the romance as primary literary genre. [Jan 2007]
[/ QUOTE ]
Granted, a great many people see comics and sci-fi as the modern heirs to the mideival romance - and the genre of lack of verisimilitude - but that issue of whether one can, and should, write realistic science fiction, realistic fantasy and realistic comics is under debate, not decided to the negative.
The big issues are verisimilitude of characterization - that is, a portrayal of a personality which is believable and grounded within concepts we know - and consistency of story - for instance, no Deus ex Machina or ungrounded leaps out of nowhere. The portrayal of reality whic, while it has fantastic elements, is full ofits own flaws, gritty and unidealised is also a major factor in the establishment of realism.
And for those who want the tl;dr version: So what if it's a comic? it can be a good, realistic comic.

Ok, I am looking for an RP heavy SG for a blueside toon. Thing is I do not want a Silver age, or Golden Age hero doing the heroic thing, the Ninja training dojo theme or the Cat girl theme.
Is there no realistic themed SG's out there?
