For all the complainers about the "lack of information" in the interview:
Every question posed to Positron at herocon '08 that he responded "no comment" to has become (or is in the process of becoming) reality.
CoH for Mac, Going Rogue, Color Customization, etc.
Chances are that the "no comments" are a way of not giving the competition the heads up on what's planned. It's now a competitive market. No sense in giving away all your secrets just to have someone else rush it into a competing game.
Also, City of Villains was announced in 2004... a year before it became a reality. Going Rogue should be no different. It's their way of saying, "We're finally able to do what you wanted... just stick around a bit longer."
[/ QUOTE ]That's a stupid reason. CoX people are getting paranoid by CO. The reason why anyone in a game business says "no comment" is because it is too far off to confirm and it may change.
[/ QUOTE ]
I am not paranoid of CO. I don't understand why ANYONE would be.
City of Heroes has survived the likes of Prototype and InFamous... Why would CO even dent us? Really?
City of Heroes has been competing with WOW for 5 years... WOW for Christs sake...
[/ QUOTE ]Prototype and inFamous will never be direct competition and you thinking that is proof of your paranoia. CO is another superhero mmorpg for the computer. The other two games are action-adventure sandbox games on different consoles with no real long term plans for future updates excluding sequels. We have not been competing with WoW at all because we never even tried to (not a bad thing). CoX panders to the superhero and comic book fans, while WoW panders to the swords and sorcery people. They have about 12 million active accounts, while we hang on to, what, 100,000? Less? P_P, I've noticed that you believe that if you believe it in your mind, it somehow warps reality to your thought.
[/ QUOTE ]
Keep tellin yourself that. Really, You sound far more paranoid than me. I sited two games that are DIRECT competition for CO, Prototype and InFamous. In the first Week how many units of InFamous were sold? Isn't it Sonys SECOND most sold game ever?
WoW competes with CoX everyday. This is a Fantasy game. Super Heroes with Superstrength and Fire Armor do not exist in the REAL WORLD. This isnt a SIM game. You can make Elves or Orcs in this game... Should you chose to.
I already have Prototype and Infamous, I dont need another Consol super hero game... Cept for Batman

Prototype isn't even a superhero game. InFamous is a urban-superhero game at best. CoH is not fantasy and we are in no way able to take on WoW if we were. CO isn't even a console game at the moment and if/when it is, it will be along the lines of Final Fantasy XI, an mmo. MMOs and regular games are two completely different markets, with two completely different market plans.

Co is competeing with all super hero games. In MY opinion they compete more with consols than MMOs. MY OPINION. Not Delusional.
CoH is a fantasy game. I dont know why you think it isnt. This is not a SIMULATION of Real Life.
Just because you think CO isnt more like a consol game, doesnt mean I am wrong just means you have a different opinion.

Boomtown: In your own opinion what will be the main feature of Issue 15?
Matt Miller: I think the villain Strike Force which frees Reichsman is the star of the issue.
[/ QUOTE ]
Given the apparent general opinion of this TF, I'm surprised this statement hasn't been laughed at yet.
Have they tweaked the story to make the PCs seem less like faceless minions? I'm all for a redside taskforce with a 'pay day', but from what I've heard the TF treats you like the gum on the bottom of Lord Recluse's shoe; and I don't see how that would be enjoyable.
are you even reading the post P_P? he didn't even say he thought it was console game, just pointed out what he thinks it will be like if it goes to console. and CoX is not a fantasy genre MMO. it is a superhero MMO. also trying to compare a console game to an MMO, or CoX to WoW is like trying to compare steak to a car. it isn't the same.

The story was changed dramatically since the first version and now is getting pretty much rave reviews all around. Combine that with some interesting mechanics and the SF truly is the star of I-15, IMO.
If you are interested in spoilers, someone has posted screenshots of the entire Villain SF in a thread in one of the I-15 sections.
But if you don't want to spoil it, rest assured, the input of the players about the story was taken into account. And what it currently is bears little resemblance to what we first were presented with.
I give it 5 thumbs up and a piece of pie.

If that's the case, I'm honestly thrilled! Especially if it means a general turnabout with CoV's mission writing in general--but I'll be thrilled to see another high level arc that treats the players with a degree of respect. ^_^
Thanks for answering this for me, I was honestly curious since I haven't heard anything since the complaints about the first version of the mission. I should've known--no news is good news.
I hope this new graphics engine will allow for easier creation of wireframe models and animations. So many things that have been asked for and denied ... like animals, multiple arms, huge females, etc.
It would also be nice if the wireframe/animation modeler could be extended to MA - to allow creation of our own critters.

The ability to switch body types being added with the science booster makes me wonder if eventually we will get the long-robed character body that NPC's use, where the robe is part of the body, not laid over top of a pair of legs. Currently the reason why we don't have long robes is that there have been difficulties getting the robe to act right when trying to follow the existing legs. Note that robed NPC's don't have that problem.

Pure supposition at this point. Right now, we really don't know all that much beyond what the name implies as well as the whole praetorian thing.

My, my. The community is slipping. Positron let slip out a new tidbit about Going Rogue. And no one caught it except for me of course. (Ok someone might have, but no mention in this thread. )
From the interview:[ QUOTE ]
Matt Miller: I cant release much information yet. Hopefully the name alone, Going Rogue, provides a good foreshadowing to what the game will encompass. But among other things there will be new zones, the ability to switch a hero to a villain and vice versa, and difficult tasks for level 50 characters to do that make them more powerful.
[/ QUOTE ]
Note the part I highlighted. Recall the 10 Universal Slots from the Survey from last August and Castle comments about having other tricks up their collective sleeve instead of more levels. I'm not even implying it's the Universal slots from the survey, but I believe we have confirmation of a new advancement system.

erm, that's actually been quoted at least twice so far...
That was already brought up like... 5 pages ago? When reading it I figured that was likely a hint at being something like the Universal Slots, or possibly whatever that system has evolved into by now.

If it is signature powers, I would be a happy camper.
Posi's pretty careful what he says in this interview, obviously he's trying to release just enough info to have us going wild with speculation.

[/ QUOTE ]I doubt that he is doing it for speculation, I bet it's just an added bonus. I say we all leave the forums to make the devs focus on the expansion and not read our posts.

Including where I specifically mention it in the OP!
Always remember, we were Heroes.
Misleading title was misleading.
I thought Posi confirmed in an interview they were FINALLY going to give Boomtown the Faultline makeover. It's been being rebuilt ever since CoV launched, according to the mission arc redside!

Heh. I had a similar momentary reaction but when I tried to conceive of a thread title that was more clear, nothing came to mind other than not including the website name!
I can't see how it wouldn't be 2010. It's a paid expansion, it'll need more testing that a normal issue. How could anyone imagine it'd be out in a couple of months?
[ QUOTE ]
Can Posi just NOT do the interview next time and save us all the time to read:
"I can't talk about that yet"
"we'll make an announcement about that soon"\
"no we're not working on that at the moment as theres more interesting things i can't talk about right now that we are working on. but i can't talk about them."

Don't read it, then you save yourself the time reading it. Nobody forced you to read it.

But I swear there weren't there before. What. That's it. It's obvious. They edited their posts after I posted. Then altered the forurm database timestamps. It's a conspiracy....

[ QUOTE ]

[/ QUOTE ]
While its a paid expansion:
1) we dont know how long they have been working on it. For all we know all the work for it was done before it was announced, and their just debugging now
2) Going rogue doesnt seem to have any inherrently new stuff. Yes there is side switching, but we can already team with villans in specific places, and there have been cases of bugs letting villans start in hero games. So the foundation has been well established.
Basically from what we have been shown(admittedly not much) Going rogue seems to be several new zones, a new reward system of some kind, and the ability to switch sides with our character. We already have systems that cover all of this, and the devs have had lots of practive creating new zones and stories. In theory, that might nor be very difficult to setup, just need lots of bug testing for crossed wires.
Now I have no idea how much time it really takes to do all that. Maybe it wont be till 2010. But considering that i15 will be a light issue, and that it would be a really good idea to get a new box on the shelves to both compete with CO and just to have one out for the holiday season, it stands to reason that the devs have ALOT of incentive to get it out before 2010.
Jay Doherty: Yes, there was this one night that I was ready to go home but had to drop the browns off at the super bowl before I left for home. While on the throne it hit me. I stayed for a few more hours and that why we have the pain pads in the game.
[ QUOTE ]
as for this comment, does he really think that other superhero MMO's are trying to compete with something from 5 yr's ago?
[/ QUOTE ]
It's more along the lines of "They'll have launch content - and we'll have five years *more* of it."
We've *had* our initial overpowered period, our rebalancing, our first expansion (COV) and many issues to evolve stories. CO has not.
Not to mention, no matter what others may *see,* COH has changed since leaving Cryptic's hands, and while the few Cryptic staff that may have known where COH was going then might still remember - they don't know how anything's changed for it *now.* They'll remember not knowing how to do X, how Y wasn't possible or seemed unlikely, that sort of thing... but it's not the same game, or - with all the new hires - the same staff.
That's more of the gist of what I got from that comment.
