Leveling sucks.
[ QUOTE ]
Well, stop and think about it for a second.
When you first started playing, on your first few characters, wasn't the low level game pretty awesome back then?
I bet it was. I mean, if it wasn't, why would you have kept playing to get to this point?
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually the low level game was NOT awesome back in the day; in fact, I was new to MMO play and was seriously thinking, "I dunno if I can do this, maybe I need to cancel" because that Mongoose mission where you take down everyone in the snake-goddess Temple room was giving me fits.... and I had to run all the way back across Mercy every time it "fitted' me. [So to speak.]
I eventually figured out how to pull on my own, and began to actually progress. But no, I did not zone in and go "HOW AWESOME!" I was motivated to make it work, and kept trying till it did.
An entirely different premise. Nowadays of course the low level game makes me want to gouge my own eyes out, I've seen it so much. Or maybe I'm blueside and just avoiding the low level game altogether! Still not awesome.
Should come as no surprise I'm bored to tears---to anyone.
I've tried and tried and tried, but I can't force myself to even PL in my own MAs.
Even my SG/VG PLs make me yawn to the point of pukeage. Or, at the least, somnambulance.
Maybe I need to take a long, ambiguous break...

It takes virtually no time anymore to get to level 5, go to KR, do the radio/bank missions. By then you are close to level 10. A mission or two and you are off to Steel where you do the Midnight Squad missions and the radio/bank missions there. Do the University tutorial as well and you are very close to level 15. A mission or two after that you go to Faultline and do those arcs. Again you may need to pad slightly to get to 20 but then you have Striga and the Talos bank missions. Before you know it you are level 22+, ready for SOs and at level 25 you can get to Ouroboros to back fill your badge missions. And this is soloing.
[/ QUOTE ]
Around level 5 is where soloing usually begins to be a chore for my Defenders, Controllers, and Tankers. Maybe a level earlier for the Controllers, it's been awhile.
"Oh look, a heroic spawn... *chip chip chip*... ::several minutes of hyperbole later:: finallly... beat... ::falls over from blue exhaustion:: The TOs, they do nothing!"
But I had the rare-these-days luck to get on a non-AE team with my Tanker who was supposed to be a speedster. And it was made up almost entirely of Controllers and Defenders with Rad and thus I had AM out the wazoo and the game was fun! All it took was triple to quintuple stacked AM. And I finally got the superspeed that my speedster should've had from the get-go.

As stated in my previous post... play something else!
It'll do wonders for your perspective. You don't HAVE to continuously grind away if it has gotten to you.
As others have noted, I never cease to be amazed at the amount of "if you don't like [x], well just leave the game!" we see around here. OMG let's don't ever fix anything, if people don't like it LEAVE and can i have your stuff!!!!
*disgust*
I don't view that as healthy for the game, but obviously mileage varies.

Bottom line...stop making hitting level x or y the primary focus of your COX life and just enjoy the game. New characters can be fun for the fact that they ARE incomplete and you have to work a bit more to get them to perform.

For me, the fun starts when I get on a team and start seeing huge mobs of +2s. That or picking up an AoE.
Which can happen from about level 6 at the earliest(or even lower if you get a big enough team).
Although I must say, Redside is much more mentally draining than Blueside is in the trek from mid-10's to the 30's. At least, it was for me.

I never ceased to be amazed at how people can so completely misunderstand what someone else is saying...especially when they point to a previous post that makes their point clear.
My advice was that if you find the game has started to become a grind...play other things and play COX a bit less. It takes the grindy edge off. I never told you to leave the game.
You want a 'fix' for a problem that doesn't exist. If you have played the game all this time and don't like a significant portion of it that needs to be there(because lets face it...they are not going to let you skip levels), then you need to work around that or accept that its there and move on.
Everytime I see these kinds of posts, it makes me laugh. This is an MMO, no one is getting automatic bumps to their desired level in most other MMOs just because they think they have somehow payed their dues. Linear level progression is how this game...and most other MMOs are designed.
Considering how quickly this game lets you level now compared to a few yers ago...it's simply not needed. Play on a team with some good friends at a reasonable difficulty and the levels start to rack up.
If you think I'm telling you to leave the game, then that's up to you. What I AM telling you to do is deal with reality. COX isn't the only existing PC game...play some other stuff and chill out. No one is removing the 1 - 20 portion of the game just because you want it NAO.
I still level past the 1-30 grind.
WITHOUT having to go through the level 1-30 content!

Unfortunately, the lower levels being moronic in both CoH and Cov is a problem that DOES exist; at least for other people. If you love jumping down a Snake hole 50,000 times, then obviously this does not apply to you.

I don't think anyone - certainly not myself - is advocating the removal of levels 1-20. What has been begged for, FOR YEARS, is some additional things to do to make these levels go by faster.
Since powering through the lower levels via the MA is verboten, we need new low-level stuff to do more than ever before. If you don't see it that way I am sorry, but plenty of others do.

Here is a radical thought. Since you want new content for the low levels, and you are not supposed to use the MA system for PLing to 50 in a few hours, why don't you try playing the MA content for the new stories that are in it? I know there are low level arcs in the system, I have written a couple myself, and there are 2 or 3 threads here on the forums about just that subject.
You would get new story arcs to read and experience, you would be using the MA the way the Devs envisioned it, and maybe, just maybe, you would be spending less time here on the forums complaining about things. That's 2 wins for you and 1 for everyone else on the forums, so we all come out ahead.

The lower levels in COH are far from moronic. Your choice of starting contacts based on your origin is 3 times or more that of COV.
That COV has too little starting contacts is true...but at the same time you don't HAVE to do the contact missions. Street sweeping til you hit level 5 is all you need and then you move on to Port Oakes and deal with your broker.

That's not what some of the posters in this, and other threads of this type, are saying. People in this thread have been saying that they don't want to play the first 12, 20 or 30 levels at all. That's not going to become something the developers ever encourage.
[ QUOTE ]
What has been begged for, FOR YEARS, is some additional things to do to make these levels go by faster.
[/ QUOTE ]
How would you make them go by faster? I'm curious. You could add more missions and contacts but the xp is going to be the same. You now have patrol XP plus the level smoothing that was done a few issues ago. What exactly could be added(aside from free levels) that would literally make them go by faster?
Asking for more low level content is not making the low levels faster...its giving you more mission options. I'm all for that, but I'm not for making the low levels any less significant in the life of a COX toon. And that seems to be what people in this thread were asking for more than additional low level content.
[ QUOTE ]

See, you're nicely contradicting yourself here. You just said you don't want to skip any levels. But you want the levels to go by even faster than they are now...at lower levels...that would equate to the same thing.
See, people shouted that they wanted alternative content to do at lower levels. MA came and they got it...but what they really wanted was easy power leveling/farming at lower levels. Now that MA has gotten 'fixed' and you can still use it to skip all the lower level content you want...you actually want dev content that makes you level faster in the lower levels. So yeah...you don't want alternate content...you want content that lets you blow through it like MA farms used to. You're not going to get that.
I suspect that GR will bring lots(YMMV) of new low level stuff...and people will still be posting here about how there is nothing new to do at low levels and how they hate the game pre 20, 30, 40 etc.
Its laughable and more than a bit pathetic.

I approve this post!!!
I don't mind the low levels in City of Heroes anymore. In a good sewers run, I can get to Lv7 or 8 in a good hour. A few more missions could get me to 10 in another hour or so. I can get to 14 in a day if I really work at it. And I always felt 14-20 is a really easy range since that's when the builds really start coming together.
But on City of Villains? Leveling SUCKS. Its so hard to find a team in the low levels and there's nothing quite like the sewers that drowns you in quick, fast experience points. I can get to Lv6 in an hour, sure, by running around Mercy Isle and just killing things as I go without doing missions. But getting to Level 7 or any level past that royally sucks cause there's rarely people on villains side (at least, not on Champion server). I don't see people play villains side until Lv35+, usually closer to the 45-50 range.
I love the villains archetypes and I like villainous characters, but its so slow to level that I get burned out so fast. I have soooo many villain characters permanently parked at Lv7.

Otherwise, I will continue to powerlevel past the meaningless levels "in my point of view."

Because I don't like zoning into a mission as a level 6 and discovering that I'm a level 50 facing off against 54s... with like, two true attack powers [not including vet stuff]. Wheeeee.
There may be low level MA stuff out there, but we Type As are not feeling like slowly trolling through everything in the MA in a futile search to find it. I am after efficient use of my low-level time, and continually zoning in and going "ZOMG, no!" *quit TF* I do not consider efficient. I want to level, not go on an Easter Egg hunt that never quite pans out.
Back to the sewers I go! AGAIN. I'd rather do a sewer run than fight someone's stupid, unkillable boss.
Also, LOL at those with nothing better to do than show up out here complaining about other people's posts.

Another radical suggestion for you here. Try actually reading the descriptions of the arcs. Each mission has the level ranges it covers right there in the description box. So unless you actually can't read, there is no reason for you to have to log into the mission to discover that it is full of level 54s.

Try actually looking at the MA forum, for the threads of low level arcs instead of picking random arcs to try in the game. Then search for the ID number in the MA. (You do know there is a search function in the MA right? Really not hard to use.) And until I15 is released, you can also search for LBMA, which is used by a lot of arc creators to indicate low level arcs.
And if you really want efficient, leveling up multiple times without having to take a step between missions, with the inspiration seller not 40 feet away, and the hospital less than 30 seconds away from the mission doors seem a lot more efficient than running sewer teams. But hey, whatever floats your boat.
