Seriously. It has very little to do with the OP, but if you don't see something horribly wrong with this, you need to share what you're smoking.
Haha. I thought that too. But its what he said...
And do you want some? I've got some waffles leftover.

Kudos to you for helping, but anyone who has been playing for a week and has a VEAT will get no help from me.
If people don't do the dirty work themselves, they don't have a right to the spoils IMO. Let him suffer through the learning process, he should have done it the first time around.

I get what your saying, but I have a soft spot for new people.
I remember when I first started, all the bad powers I picked, beating up level ones when I was 12 because I thought I was getting XP. Getting Beheader on a Axe tank thinking it would actually take off someones head. Good times...
Granted, the game is pretty much a new game compared to way back then.

Same here. I spent the entire evening on a lowbie going through the basics with a brand new player this week. They were level 4 IIRC when we started and 8-9 when we finished with a flight pack.
During that time I had a few folks suggesting we run 'something higher' and sidekick him. A suggestion I resisted. The low levels the first few times are the training wheels and vets 'helping' newbies by getting them past that are really no help at all.

Agree with this. At the very least, I would've suggested to try leveling up a regular character (not an epic) using missions to at least 20 before he embarrassed himself further. While I've helped more new players than I can count, I dislike spoon feeding them.
He asked me to get him to 10, he was 5 at the time, and I suggested he just street sweep(you know, to see the sights and stuffs) or run some paper missions.
He said something back I think, but I'm to tired to remember.

You may as well try to salvage a bad situation. He probably wouldn't have appreciated being told off.

If you type /screenshotui 1 that will show the UI in the screen shots. Also you could turn on chat logging and have a log of every conversation you see while in game. (Everything you see in your chat box is logged. Makes good black mail material )

Exactly. At the very least, dont have the AE manager contact them till level 20 or so, Ive met a level 40 who thought the sister psyche tf was an AE arc! It's ridiculous!

Ah sweet, thanks Eislor, I'll try it out.
Especially the blackmail thing.
well, mng, i salute you, helping new people is how this game survives, period. i dont care how they got where they are, pl, ae winterlord, dont care, they asked for help, and my policy is to do so to the best of my abilities. good on ya. I know a while ago i met a returning player who had a dual blade brute, and nobody had explained combos to him, id like to think that i made his time in game more enjoyable, and thats really what its about. enjoy your waffles.
heck, if you teach a pl baby the game(but only if they want it, no being pushy), maybe they will enjoy it enough to play through it straight and appreciate the content next character.
You done a good thing today. Yup.

A few of my real life friends got CoX accounts and one of their primary complaints was that it was near to impossible to get a team together for running actual content or normal teams (re: non-AE farms). Both of them got a 50 in about 2 weeks (they teamed with me whenever I was on because I actually ran real teams), got bored and frustrated with the game because all they could ever find to do was AE farming, and left because of it. That's one of the big problems that I have with AE and the AE farming: new people never get exposed to the rest of the game which will actually keep them interested. At least with PI farming, stuff like this didn't happen until they'd run through the game to get to level 40 and gotten themselves to PI through normal advancement.

Heh, I remember when I first started I had a couple Winter Lord babies asking me how to do this or that. I couldn't help much, I was brand new myself but I did know at least some of the basics (I had been reading the old Prima's guide, cover to cover, while it was installing).
I still happily help newbies learn the game when I run into one. Newbies should be nurtured and cared for so they become good productive members of our game. n00bs though need to be shot.

I have yet to see how I gave them "bad" help.
I at least showed them the forums. Heck, I didn't discover them a good 3 years after I started playing. Before that, I just randomly clicked powers that I thought were cool.
I learned alot about the game after I found them.

No no, I believe what's being pointed out as "bad" help here is the AE PLing.
You did fine.

In addition: you can capture all the text in one tab AFTER the fact (but before you log out).
/copychat <tabname>
so...
/copychat global
would copy all the text on your global tab and save it to the clipboard, which you could then post directly to the forums. (After you do find and replace to protect the names of the innocent.)

What, are you trying to pretend self-righteous anti-PL morality police don't exist?
I see some in this very thread.
The Nethergoat Archive: all my memories, all my characters, all my thoughts on CoH...eventually.
My City Was Gone
both they and the equely self righteous anti-authority "fight the power" brigade have had their representatives out, fortunately this thread is not about that idiocy, but just helping another player, which is a fine activity.
A couple hours ago, I was on my Bane casually buying some things from the BM, when I get a PM from a low level Spider. Lets call him Bubbles
[Tell] Bubbles: may i ask a question
[Tell] Me: shoot
[Tell] Bubbles: do u have the spider pets
[Tell] Me: yea, Banes and Crabs get them, but Crabs get more
[Tell] Me: really useful, good for taking aggro
[Tell] Bubbles: do they stay till destored or are they timed
[Tell] Me: timed, but ive seen some with IOed out builds that have em perma
[Tell] Bubbles: out builds???
[Tell] Me: with IOs, set bonuses
[Tell] Bubbles: kinda new now sure what 10 s is
[Tell] Me: hmm how can i explain this..
[Tell] Me: take the tutorial at Cap on Invention Sets
[Tell] Me: explains everything about that
[Tell] Bubbles: ok i only wanted it for the spiders if they arent perm i dont want this toon lol
[Tell] Me: keep it, the pets arnt everything
[Tell] Me: crabs can get 6 pets, just cycle thru them and you can at least have 2 pets out at once.
[Tell] Bubbles: cool
[Tell] Me: just stick with it, it gets better
[Tell] Me: teams will love you if you take your leadership toggles
[Tell] Bubbles: mana burners lol
[Tell] Me: :O
[Tell] Me: oh jeez
[Tell] Bubbles: lol
[Tell] Me: here let me invite you to team lol
[Tell] Bubbles: na i figured i would need those im in a party a lot.
Theres was a lot more, but I would take a long time too type it all, and for some reason the chat box won't show up in screenshots.
Basically I:
Showed him the forums
Told him about toggles
Told him the difference between crabs and banes
Showed him the combat attributes
Showed him what the "mana burning" toggles do.
Suggested which VEAT he should roll
Told him a bit about duel builds
Suggested that he explore some, you know see the sights find badges, street sweeping etc
He knew more I think than they usual AE baby, but was still had been only playing a week. Got his first 50 in that time. I thought about global friending him, but I didn't want him to think I was a creep or something
Pretty much what I am getting at is if you see a new person, help them out a little. Show them the forums at least where they can ask about things. I suggested that he should register or at least be a lurker, and he said he would think about it.
Ok, I'm gonna go make me some waffles now.
