I hate Fire Sword...

Sometimes. Sometimes I just want a nice, burn your face off melee set without any fancy constructing swords out of fire.

And sometimes all I want is a nice fire sword, spreading cauterized gashes wherever I go.

It always bugged me that the two ideas are crammed together in the same set. As I inevitably want to skip one or the other types of attack on concept alone.

I'm with you. I want a set that uses a sword that is made of fire, and a completely separate set that uses fire in other ways. I would settle for a clone of broadsword that does fire/lethal damage and has, well, a fiery sword.

I don't mind one sword. But Fire Melee has 3! Two of them are the same yes. And maybe I could live with that, if GFS was changed into a a more "Fire in the face" type attack.

I just want GFS's animation and sound fx changed. It looks really clumsy and sounds ridiculous.

I like the sound fx find personally...as for the animation...*shrug*

Greater Ice Sword
Greater Fire Sword
Head Splitter
Shatter
Cleave

Incinerate -> Scorch -> Cremate -> Scorch is a great attack chain if you're trying to avoid the swords. Heck, it's a great attack chain period.

As for an ALL swords attack chain, well, that's never going to be competitive. But if concept is critical, you could go Fire Sword -> Fire Sword Circle -> Fire Sword -> Greater Fire Sword -> Fire Sword -> Gap.

Yeah, mixing the two does seem a little clumsy, somehow.

I completely agree.

Not only does it look wrong on a typical close range modern day flame-weilding mutant type, but it also detracts from actual sword wielders because you cant tell if they're meant to be carrying a flaming sword or if they just do because the powerset has one.

I felt the same when I made a martial artist who was meant in concept to use all kick attacks. It didn't quite work because all martial artists do that in the game, whether they mean to or not.

I also completely agree there's not much that can be done about it really at this stage of the game.

Seems its just a visual reminder that your doing leathal damage. Of course that logic begs the question of why cremate doesnt get a fire hammer summoned, but w/e. I, too, would prefer to loose the sword fx- just a quick uppercut for fire sword (like shockwave in claws) and a hammer fist like the behemoths for GFS, then loose the sword in circle. Make fire the punchy set for SCRAPPING. Keep the damage types as they are if all fire is too damaging.

I understand this. I really wish that there were a full fire sword set. Don't care much about a "fire melee" punching set.

I have no problem with the mixed set as it is, but then again I'm used to seeing CoX's interpretation of Fire Melee. Of all the sword attacks, Fire Sword is my least favorite. It's alright, but it doesn't have the charm of the other two. FSC has a nice ripple of fire across the ground and a healthy 'crunch' when hitting multiple enemies. GFS's animation/sword look impressive, and it has a very identifiable screech (which just amuses me to no end). Fire Sword is just... kind of bland in comparison.

(I think the non-sword attacks are fine. Incinerate is a little strange, but not a big deal. I am very glad that Scorch has its new animation though. )

[edit: Okay, I'm also a bit tired of the Air Sup animation that Cremate uses - but that's a more global problem. :P]

I think an cone arc fire sword attack would be a good replacement for breath of fire. "Fire Slice", I like it!

I agree with the Scorch statement. The new one is much better than the "reach out and gently place the fire on your target" look of the old Scorch.

As far as the swords go. Meh, don't really care that much. Would be nice if the set was a little more uniform, but it's not, so I deal.

Agreed. It should have been a fire sword attack that uses the Hack animation.

Then it would have to deal lethal instead of smashing dmg. I like fact that the set can do 3 different dmg types. Or would you rather them bring in combustion? *shivers*

I agree with most of the comments in this post.

In my opinion, I think it would be awesome if Ice and Fire had two sets each:

Ice Melee - Ice Sword
Fire Melee - Fire Sword

Making the sword sets act slightly more like the Katana/Broadsword sets would be awesome. I would definitely be all over a set that has an actual Fire or Ice sword as their drawn weapon.

On the other side, making the fire and ice melee sets more of a "I can manipulate fire/ice at close range" would be a blast as well. Add a fire/ice nova ability that basically sends a blast out in about 10 yard, etc.

I always assume Combustion is off the table in these discussion because of the win overload it would cause.

I'd settle for a BS custom sword that's on fire and make that.

I agree.
The sets "Fire Blade" and "Fiery Melee" should be separate. Of course, I don't think much could be done at this point. Although, the sword attacks could have their animations changed (with same activation time, of course) and have their power names changed. However... I highly doubt the Devs would ever do that.

I never understand why people are thrown off by how Fire Melee is set up. There's only so many variations you can do on the "burning you with my hands" routine before it gets boring. It makes sense to me, personally... you can manipulate fire, so why not be able to make fiery shapes?

The oddball in the set to me, personally, is Breath of Fire. Very different approach than the other powers. I like the idea of a cone Fire attack as well (though I don't know if I'd fit it in anyway, since Combustion and Fire Sword Circle get the job done better, and at 360 degrees).

As long as it has a good DPA, I'd use it. Though sheer coolness has its place... cyborg pack's self destruct comes to mind.

Self Destruct is awesome because it will go off even if you die. During a recent near-team-wipe my Controller was about to die and I activated Self Destruct right before I took the last hit. So I stood there, dead, with half the team unconscious and blew up, taking out enough of the group that those left could finish the mission while everyone was laughing about it. Hopefully that isn't a "bug" they "fix" because it is a very cool aspect of the power. Someday I'd like to have a character who can immediately follow that up with Rise of the Phoenix.

As for the cast time on making an origami crane out of a car and hitting someone with it... I imagine it might be almost as long as Propel.
