Well DAM I suck at pvp!!

Ah see I knew I saw it somewhere, and now I remember because it said "regards screwloose" or something like that in the sig. But now I know where it ORIGINALLY came from...thanks folks.
And dam that nerf bat! I kinda thought I had a chance there, back when I was researching it I kinda had that wide eyed opitmism of a kid on Christmas Eve that just KNOWS hes gonna get some good stuff, only to wake up and find not only no gifts, but that the Grinch had visited his house the night before and took the dam tree lol.
*start Rant*
Don't be intimidated by being defeated. Everyone gets defeated at some point, even though some will not admit it.
As far as zone PvP goes I don't think there is any disadvantage to being defeated besides hurt ego. Even when others are base camping I love to run out there 1 vs 10 just for the chance of killing one person. If you get the kill you have a chance at a 30 million recipe, if you get defeated and give up the recipe it only makes them cheaper for your other heroes/villains to buy them.
I really wish more people would team and go against the other factions even when outnumbered...to me it is our duty to do the best we can to help statesman or recluse. The other faction wants action and it is hell of boring to sit in the base SO BRING IT. When heroes or villians are outnumbered 10 vs 1 they understand the odds are against you. 300! Alamo!
What usually happens is some gerk offf that has 200000000000000 allies talks crap like "you noob" or "learn2pvp" then the opposing faction stays in base to not be ridiculed further and we all have a boring zone.
*end rant*
As far as arena goes usually the good PvPers are willing to help. It is tough to swallow your pride (at least for me) when you get pwninated time and time again, however if you look at it like a learning experience instead of popping off usually the other players will try to help you. That has been my experience at least.

I agree, I've never once complained or popped off at anybody in pvp. If I do any chat at all its usually some good sportsman type talk or I'm talkin to everyone thats takin part in the brawl and its positive talk as well.
It's ok to get angry if ya lose, but I dont think whining about it helps at all. Again, its just a video game, to me anyway.

pvp can be hella fun
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm glad you've been havin' fun in the zones.
[ QUOTE ]
-The regular pvpers seem to be having problems with the way pvp works, but why should it matter to you if you are regulars and have in a sense "mastered" what it means to pvp?
[/ QUOTE ]
It's not that they can't adapt to the new pvp, but rather that they think pvp took a turn in the wrong direction (i.e., pvp is worse now and less fun than it was before the sweeping changes).
[ QUOTE ]
I keep seein these "Learn 2 pvp" comments and stuff
[/ QUOTE ]
Basically just ignore those fools. Some folks will say "Learn 2 pvp" if you pop an inspiration while others will tell that person to "Learn 2 pvp" because inspirations are part of pvp. People are idiots, and they will call you an idiot regardless of what you do. Maybe you had the nerve to create a toon with a sub-optimal powerset, or maybe you took the wrong power, or maybe they don't like your costume. Now, if you start crying in broadcast because someone used a particular power or inspiration, you really do need to "learn 2 pvp!" Take that for what it's worth.
[ QUOTE ]
Don't you guys want the "casual" or "non-regular" pvpers to get in on the fun.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, but those folks won't be the best the second they enter the zone, and should understand that they are going to take their lumps. Granted, some of the afformentioned idiots could help things by not insulting your mother after they kill you, but you should really just ignore them and report them rather than taking the bait. Some players derive their enjoyment by ruining yours, and they would rather engage in broadcast pvp than fight you on the battlefield. The more you return verbal fire, the more you open yourself up for continued abuse. They win if they make you so mad that you leave the zone and never come back. PvP loses.
[ QUOTE ]
those heroes who were on MY side that just sat there and dam near ignored me and let their homeboy wail on me with his super purple IOed out guy
[/ QUOTE ]
Tough to know without being there, but some folks do have a sense of fairness. Maybe you went to their fightclub spot where they typically fight 1 v 1, and the other heroes wanted to see how you faired against the villain. If they joined you and ganged up on him, he may have left instead of hangin' around to fight them each 1 v 1 after he was done with you. Who knows?
[ QUOTE ]
I'm not a guy who builds his hero around pvp
[/ QUOTE ]
Step #1 for you should be using your second build to make a pvp build. It can help quite a bit.
Again, glad you're havin' fun and just wanted to provide two cents worth of responses to your question. Keep on fightin'!
[/ QUOTE ]
You know that's an interesting observation. Having come back to the game after 4 years of playing other more PVP focused games, the 'new' PVP is a lot like the PVP in other games- namely states aren't as important as health and damage stacking.
That being said, at level 47 I hung out in RV yesterday for awhile to see what the level 50s' could do to a level 47 with standard enhancements- namely no IO's or sets, and some red ones that I outlevelled. Frankly, many of the heroes put a lot of states on me, and did little damage relative to the equiptment and level difference. They had a hard time killing me (although it DID happen once) and I was able to do surprising amounts of damage to them. I also noticed they had NO problem handling the NPC's and heavies in the zone.
I found that interesting and enlightening.
I did a lot of powers testing, letting heroes hit me etc to see what would happened.
Frankly, I think the new PVP is lot more interesting than what it was 4 years ago. It's certainly more competitive and less reliant on builds than it is on strategy and skill. I hope I have that same opinion of it after making 50 and spending more time in it.
[ QUOTE ]

Actually that's exactly the opposite of what happened with the changes. New PvP is less diverse (buffs, debuffs, and heals are largely worthless, and the only thing that really matters anymore is damage) and requires much less skill.

Hahaha! Good one.
Current strategy: Mash buttons to use attack powers, while your opponent does the same. Hope that you do MOAR DAMAGE than him. If that fails, hibernate and then phase.
Yep....tons of skill, and really extensive strategy.
Super,
Clearly, U R the man w/Castle's No-Phail-N-PvP-u-N00b changes!
Way to sum it up.

It's not really that we (the vets) have had trouble adapting.
It's just...not as fun.
I mean, I don't regret having spent months and hundreds of hours on test improving my skills as an Emp. My teams appreciated me when I wasn't in a coma, heh.
It's baffling why they rewrote the rulebook so far into the game. Certainly melee had issues and buffs were off the charts crazy at times.
I zoned into Siren's on my Ice Blaster and I had 40% Res to all! Dearness, why do I have that much res on a squishy? Before, I had to decide on an insp load of Oranges, Greens, maybe a few Break Frees or Blues...now the game gives me Oranges for free, Break Frees don't do anything.
Look, I'm not saying I don't have fun with my dUmbies or wherever...it's just not as intense or fast or split-second as it was before.
It is that way on the Test ladder, to be sure...I guess I'd just like it to be more than damage spam.
YMMV if you are enjoying yourself, keep at it.

Speaking of sucking at PvP, did anyone else notice a certain Inv/SS Tanker in Freedom RV tonight running his mouth about how all the villains were bad because they had Hide and Phase?
"One day we all may see each other elsewhere. In Tyria, in Azeroth. We may pass each other and never know it. And that's sad. But if nothing else, we'll still have Rhode Island."
Ha!
My blaster got a kill ratio of 23:7 last night. If someone phase or iced up...I moved on to the next guy. Almost had that brute too, we were both 1 attack away from defeat, and he got his in first.
Strategy/Lack of strategy...who cares...I just happen to play an nrg/nrg blaster with fly/hover/AS, fitness, and hasten...and that's it...no APP and no armor, muhahahaha and I PWN villains. Sure I get killed a lot too, but then, I don't play to 'not to lose' I play to put targets down until I die.
That's why I get killed a lot.
But I also have emptied the entire bus station and left bits and pieces of villains covering the walls.
I have also wiped out the entire villain camp outside the hero base too...MMs and all. I find MMs very easy to defeat on my blaster. And the Aim+BU+Nova 'death from above' drop is a lot of fun.

I don't recall seeing you in RV yesterday and I was there for about six hours last night on my Corruptor.

Sure...the next time you log on with Soul-Trapped...take notes when bluesting rings you up in RV. I wouldn't say I'm a 'pro' by any stretch...but I had a good night last night.

Isn't bluesting that [censored] nrg blaster?
Flying sniping kill stealing blasters are awesome.
Duel me.
I will work on my sig pic more when I have time.
bluesting is the lolzy energy blaster that talks [censored] for an hour, i get in, challenge him to a duel on an unfinished storm corruptor and just shuts up or suddenly gets severe downs (this second point is arguable.).
I just find it funny that despite all his acting like he's so awesome and rules RV all the time, I've never actually seen him and I spend a few hours a day in RV.

It's also funny how he know his exact kill:death ratio. Who actually keeps exact track of their kills and deaths in a PvP zone?
Something tells me he probably takes a screenshot of each kill too....to enter it into his CoH PvP diary.

I was in there yesterday for probably six hours, always on a team of 4 or 5. I picked up 50 rep, which basically translates to somewhere upwards of 200 kills (factoring in bounties and all that crap). Yes, I know I didn't get all those kills, but even as a mostly-support Therm, I was getting my share while keeping my teammates alive. Meanwhile I probably died four or five times, once while I was about to head out for the night and got heavy held.
I'm not saying "WOW LOOK AT ME I'M SO AWESOME" but to brag about a 23:7 kill ratio on a flying sniping Blaster, where half the kills were likely kill-steals or against a fiteklubber, doesn't really mean [censored].

"the reason there are so many sarcastic pvpers is we already had a better version of pvp taken away from us to appease bad players. Back then we chuckled at how bad players came here and whined.
