Then again, even for, say, broomstick races and something like the Ski Chalet, but with a Halloween twist, that wouldn't matter. >.>
[/ QUOTE ]
Now this would be cool. A new micro-zone that's only opne during the Halloween event with a Haunted house and a foggy graveyard. Spooky NPC's that say scary things like:
Female NPC's that say . . .
"I'm Pregnant!"
"When are we going to get married?"
"My mother is moving in with us!"
"Does this dress make me look fat?"
"No. I'm not mad darling . . . Go to sleep . . ."
And male NPC's could say things like . . .
like . . .
Uhm . . .
O.k. I admit it, I have no idea what a guy could say that would scare a woman. I'm open to suggestions.
[/ QUOTE ]
"You wanna know a little about me? Ok well, I have 2 kids, bad credit, and both my baby mommas have been to prison." lol Getsem everytime.
And to the OP I think thats a great idea, I also like the temp zone that actually looks very halloweeny(?), with a huge haunted house where you could fight ghosts and monsters that pop out atcha but give you something other than what we already get in the game.
I like where this thread is goin. -
I agree, I've never once complained or popped off at anybody in pvp. If I do any chat at all its usually some good sportsman type talk or I'm talkin to everyone thats takin part in the brawl and its positive talk as well.
It's ok to get angry if ya lose, but I dont think whining about it helps at all. Again, its just a video game, to me anyway. -

I ROFLMAOed and spit out my drink on the keyboard when I read this.I dont think the joke had a chance to sink in all the way yet. Funny stuff.
-
Ah see I knew I saw it somewhere, and now I remember because it said "regards screwloose" or something like that in the sig. But now I know where it ORIGINALLY came from...thanks folks.
And dam that nerf bat! I kinda thought I had a chance there, back when I was researching it I kinda had that wide eyed opitmism of a kid on Christmas Eve that just KNOWS hes gonna get some good stuff, only to wake up and find not only no gifts, but that the Grinch had visited his house the night before and took the dam tree lol. -

However! It does seem like getting all around defense from IO sets is the way to go. had a great time in RV and although I'm still gettin destroyed the challenge is fun for folks like myself, I welcome it.
[/ QUOTE ]
this is a warning. DO NOT invest in or build for defense if you are going to PvP. Diminishing Returns practically caps your defense at 13~14 percent which is practically nothing against players who are constantly at 102% to-hit with 156% accuracy. The Best kind of survival is +HP, Phase Shift, Hibernate, Dull Pain like powers, Powers that give elusivity like Frozen Armor, Invisibility, Resistance based powers, and most importantly a Good escape (and chase) travel power. Defense is NOT on the list for your blaster AT.
[/ QUOTE ]
End_Reitanna I agree with just about everything you said. The "cool kid" factor is apparent all over this forum as well. But fun is paramount when I'm gaming so I dont trip off the craziness for real. My playstyle is real laidback.
"I am not young enough to know everything". cant remember where I heard this quote from but I remember seeing it in somebody's sig somewhere. lol
Yeah I've actually met a few really nice/mature people that pvp. Again, I definately understand that when entering the pvp zone, anything goes. you kill me, you win. thats wusup. But I'll be back, hopefully with a different tactic or more purple inspirations, or a team lol.
And Syn and Neeto SAY IT AINT SO!!
I've searched around and researched and thats kinda where I was gettin the idea that IO defense on a blaster is a good idea. I was even told by a blaster in game that had some defense bonuses. But you know what I didnt consider? Maybe its only good pve side. Now, as for PVE, I gets BUSY!I'm pretty confident with more sets I'm good to go on the pve side but this pvp thing is like a puzzle, wrapped in an enigma, wrapped in fun, wrapped in confusion, wrapped in frustration, wrapped in bacon.
I'm still avoiding situations that cause me to be outmatched unless I have at least ONE person helping me. +Health, +regen, +rech seems ideal for a blaster like myself for pvp. I LOLed at myself trying to use "heal self" then trying to escape. Death came as a slow torture.
GREAT tips and insight guys, my mind is open for learning and understanding and I'm more equipped now and smarter for it. Thanks. -
Man I'm so glad you dont lose those set bonuses when you exemp back down. I just had somebody in game last night askin about that.
Sagamemnon I've now learned that maybe the low end/high end toon is an option as well. It helps to know that I can maximize my hero earlier on. And yeah I wouldnt mind sacrificing a little bit of dam or acc for the end and rech, that example you gave would definately be something that I would do, at least until I reached maybe lvl 40 then I'd probably switch it up a lil bit.
oh and man I been doin a little more pvp'in lately and wow! I'm not that good at it. But I feel like if I could simply last longer I'd be in good shape. gonna go look up what I can do for defense. -
awwww Toe you really got a crush on me huh? awwww thats sooo sweeet! followin me all the way in here, givin me good tips and then flippin on me just like that, awwww I'm blushing. you need a hug?
so anyway thanks again for those tips. It's just a game, why are you so angry? LOL<-------there goes those LOL's again."HULK SMASH!!?" ROFLMAO!
now moving on, guys I did some arena pvp with a friend like you suggested and we talked about some things. now, she was a MA/SR scrapper, lots of sets on her, and we took turns to see how long it takes to do a certain amount of damage, what powers work best against what, and so on...again, I'm the eng/eng blaster/blapper.
well what one of the things I learned was this...inspirations can change the balance of the fight quickly. now i know you are thinking "well duh" lol. But here's the thing, inspirations cant be relied on because you run out, and in my case, very quickly.
However! It does seem like getting all around defense from IO sets is the way to go. had a great time in RV and although I'm still gettin destroyed the challenge is fun for folks like myself, I welcome it.
Also...LMFAO at heal suppression and some other crazy things that happened to my powers.I was like what the f***!?!
pvp pros, I now understand some of your frustration. -

KB it's a part of the game, unfortunately some people don't like it most, like me, don't care. It is just a game some people take it way too serious. Don't worry about it if that is the first complaint you have had in a while of playing then it will be a while before the next one. Just as long as you are doing your job (blasting things) and controlling your KB, it shouldn't matter.
Don't worry it was your first but surely won't be your last, even the best of Energy Blasters get that comment.
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree with this guy here.
Yup, its just a game and folks do take this game way too seriously. Having brought an energy blaster from 1-50 since this game launched I've had less than 2 or 3 real complaints on a team about the knockback. Most times I get people congratulating me on "how far that guy flew when you hit him!" lol. I love it.
I simply tell them its inherent to my blaster and it keeps me alive when you guys are focused on killing other badguys. My defense sure as hell aint gonna do it lol.
And yeah, anybody that gets mad at Nova has some serious issues if the baddies are dead. What I've learned is as long as its not causing excess aggro, BLAST AWAY!! But dont be an a$$hole about it though, nobody likes that. -
And I just read your post Supermax. Thanks for that. Yeah I could feel a little bit of tension here in the pvp area and I was wondering why? Even though I dont pvp on the regular but will soon be trying to get more into it, I gotta agree with you guys on that. There had to have been a better way to get more people into it other than changing all the powers around and stuff.
Yeah instead of hatin pvp and pvpers, I'm tryin to keep an open mind and maybe see what I'm missing because I've never really given myself time to get the hang of it, even after all these years. -

Everyone in here should read this before feeding this guy anymore.

[/ QUOTE ]
ROFLMAO!! Wow. You REALLY want people to not like me and "rally against me" huh? To the point that you came in here where I'm asking genuinely for help on a basic understanding and I have been very respectful and everyone else has as well, to start MORE hating on something that has nothing to do with my original topic. ROFLMAO again! Great job!
Dont know what a troll is, but that cant be me, I have a very good rep here in the forums and I've been getting some really good advice and clarifications on some things that I couldnt quite understand, mainly just from my lack of experiencing them myself I guess.
Keep the hate over in the PWNZ area.
Oh, and, thanks for tips from your earlier post! Appreciate it. -
AHHH a lotta good tips and pointers in here, I likes this.
Hey thanks for the props. Yeah I know how ugly pvp can get, you got immature kids, immature adults, people with power trips, ego trips, and just plain [censored] that can sometimes gravitate towards pvp so I like to let bring some lighthearted competitiveness to the game and true sportsmanship.(I did after all play lots of sports back in school)
Well its settled then. I was gonna have "build 1" as just my fun build, ya know super knockback in my kb specialty powers, and "build 2" was gonna be lots of IO sets but for pve only. Looks like build 2 will be for pvp as well.
All of you guys gave some really cool advice. I even appreciate Toe_tagger for "going easy on me" whatever that means. I didnt come in here with hate, not at all. lol I'm just a nice guy.
And Empire I DID notice that my kb powers werent, well, knocking guys back, and for me that was disheartening because I'm used to that being one of my main tools. In pvp, as a blaster, yeah, it seems slotting for damage is wusup. I WILL however respecc because I do have the Body Mastery pool but not enough slots in Force of Nature, man I just slotted that pool all the way wrong.
Thanks again for the clarification on why theres so much anger towards pvp. Speakin of which, I even played a AE mission...162446?...last night, cant remember where I saw it at on the forums here, and it was a mock pvp type AE. And as HILARIOUS as it was, I still sensed a little bit of bitterness towards nonpvp pros and the new pvp system. Still, I had to admit it was pretty funny. -
Seriously, I really do! lol
Guys, SOOO sorry for the long post. But only the pvp pros can help me here and I know you guys are all about information. lol
Ok I been here since launch, off and on I guess.
I was here for I13, actually havent really missed an issue yet, HOWEVER, I'm not a guy who builds his hero around pvp. And I HAVE gotten a few victories in Warburg, and maybe one in RV lol. I gotta tell ya tho, I just plain suck at pvp. However, when playing with people that got some sense(and are over the age of 10 lol) I really have a good time out there. I congratulate on good battles even if I lose.My very FIRST pvp experience was group on group and I died a lot but I had BLAST!
The other day I jumped into RV with my 50 Eng/Eng blaster. He doesnt really have any good sets per se, he has one that I just kinda threw on him for no reason LONG ago, but everything else is generically IO'ed. I love him in pve, I just chalk pvp up to me simply being lame. But I digress.
Anyway I zoned in, and saw a MM and a Dom there, and a Brute who was there off and on. Well in the 45 minutes or so they gave me a brutal beatdown. 3 on 1. I didnt really have time to trip off it for real, I was too busy thinkin bout my next strategy, but they wouldnt let up. It was so UNFAIR! But you know what, I kinda chalked it up to them just being villains and thats what villains do, I just shrugged it off.
The time before that, I went into RV and there was 2 other heroes and one Brute. All 3 of these were obviously regular pvpers and knew each other personally, as I tried to make conversation with the 2 heroes just standing around and they werent very friendly lol. Made me feel like an outcast. But again, no big deal, I was there for some fun. Well the Brute made a point to single me out evertime and destroy me, but the other 2 heroes didnt help. I think maybe they were chatting amongst themselves. Now, when I fought those villains 1 vs 3, they all ganged up on me. Either way I lose.
It made my experience bad, but I cant say it enough, man I just suck at pvp I think. Everytime I'm there I lose...even IOed out I lose. LOL its cool tho I just want to see if I can take on another badguy that can actually think and move.
Hey, no real complaint here about pvp I maybe need to just step my game up. The only complaint I have if any is I wish more people PVPED! If so, maybe less people would get "ganked", as you guys call it.(excuse me I dont use these words normally lol)My dream, if any for pvp because I honestly could live life just fine without it, would be if way more people were interested in it.
So, after all these years and now the recent hate of pvp by the people, heres my questions...
-The regular pvpers seem to be having problems with the way pvp works, but why should it matter to you if you are regulars and have in a sense "mastered" what it means to pvp?
-I keep seein these "Learn 2 pvp" comments and stuff which leads me to believe that once you learn it, you somehow have set yourself above the rest of the population and became, in a sense, a "pvper who owns noobs" or somethin, does the thought that maybe more people might actually have a better chance at pvp and the playing field is leveled maybe irritate some people?
-Don't you guys want the "casual" or "non-regular" pvpers to get in on the fun.
-Why do some(half?) pvpers make the casual person feel so...unwelcomed in pvp?(like those heroes who were on MY side that just sat there and dam near ignored me and let their homeboy wail on me with his super purple IOed out guy LOL)
Again, I have nothing against pvp, my experience is that I just plain suck and need to get a lil stronger or somethin maybe. If I got taken advantage I cant be mad I guess cuz there is a warning before you step out into the battlefield. lol Til then you'll see Mike Blu-Ray in RV every once in a while and dammit I'll keep tryin. I might be face planted when you see me but "no pain no gain" and "fall 3 times but get up 4" and all that inspirational junk. lol
But I need you guys to help me understand why it needs to be "fixed", especially if its not really needed for pve, in a sense. Not a flame or complaint, I just been out of the loop. Neither for or against pvp because man, even for a loser like myself it can be hella fun. lol -

I deleted my fire/fire blaster at 37 last night. He just wasnt worth fundraising for IO's. The Archery/MM blaster is working out so far, but then she's still early. I've toyed with ice/ice, and it seems great at low levels..(but what about blasters doesnt seem great at low levels.) I just can't come up with a hook and concept to make the oft-trod ice/ice character appealing to me over the long haul. I'm an odd duck that way, if i cant come up with a good concept and interesting character story, I just lose interest in the character even if they play well.
I have hope my archer/MM can respark my initial interest in blasters. Can't stand the devices secondary. Not a big assault rifle fan as it just doen't inspire a heroic story from me, though it looks tempting from a pure play point of viiew in focusing on ranged mayhem.
It takes something for me to get frustrated. My first toon, with all of the first toon mistakes was an empath defender, and I soloed a heck of a lot to start, so I started out pretty faceplant tolerant.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hey I feel ya on this. I'm not the "Flavor of the month" type of guy, I like my hero to have some kind of story or cool concept. I do have a eng/eng thats 50 that was my first, and several others. I never tried Ice/Ice until lately.
But man, if you can come up with somethin fun for Psy/Mental then LOOKOUT! They have SO many tools. -
[ QUOTE ]
One thing about psi blast is the same people who are mocking you when it takes 50 sec to kill the robot, you will be mocking when it takes you 10 sec to make their heads explode.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, what HE said. -
Ok thanks guys I just went back and read all the new posts.
To City_Life, I had NO idea the IO's worked like that. You just schooled me to something I didnt know about lvl 30 and IO's. I've always just waited til at LEAST after 40 to do it.
And then Miraj and Fulmens just put me on to something ELSE I had never considered...frakenslotting.
I've done it SORTA, with just generic IO's that do one particular thing like DAMAGE. But you guys I never realized you could reach capped ED for damage if you put in IO's that do more than one thing. And stupid me for not actually paying attention to the numbers and doin a little math lol.
I usually skip over those triple or double aspect IO's and go for generic ones unless I'm goin for the full SET. So THATS what yall mean by frakenslotting! I'm writing what I want down as we speak lol. Thanks again CoH forum community. -
Nethershock, your idea is what first popped into my mind. LOL Almost all 4 of those bonuses I thought about honing in on,and I figured, why not go for defense. And Illicity you DO have a good point. Seems I should have a good overall view of what I'm trying to get the most of out of my guy.
Hey Galactic, he's an Energy/Energy blaster, lvl 50, and I may have just under 100 million influence out of all my heroes. And although it almost goes against my "anti-number crunching, heroes just wanna have fun" philosophy lol, I'm at the point now where its getting interesting to see what my guy could become.
Also, I DO have a respecc, on either builds for this guy, I'm lookin to just start from scratch. -
Oh My GOD! you're building a BLASTER! NOOO!!
Just kidding. Very nice build, just heed those warnings above and you'll be ok kid. -

Not a market "hater" per se, just feel like maybe it could use some work or a different system.

Unless you're a fan of merging the markets, or abandoning the lame half measures of merits and tickets, we don't have much common ground.
[/ QUOTE ]
*Looks down at Goat's feet*
Hey, that ground is the same ground I'M standing on! lol
Yes! Yes! Oh for the love of HALLE BERRY yes they need to do something about the merit situation, and in MY opinion, the ticket situation too.
And for now, lets just agree to disagree about the market I guess. -
[ QUOTE ]
Right. I just checked, and I have 5160 hours invested across all of my characters, about half that time playing my 50s, plus plenty of time on the forums and in Mids' and spreadsheets.
So when someone with, say, a couple hundred hours in the game and one level 50 thinks they should have everything that I have, I start feeling like they want to get paid for one month of work the same as I get paid for two years of work. And suddenly I start getting a little cranky. I paid my dues. I earned what I have.
And frankly, you CAN have what I have for only a couple hundred hours invested. You just have to invest that time wisely, and some of those hours may well include activities you don't find fun.
[/ QUOTE ]
ROFLMAO!!! Guys! This isnt work! Its a GAME! It's supposed to be FUN from beginning to end!! WHAT THE HELL?!
When I log in, its to have fun and enjoy something for a little while. I work all day! All this talk about spreadsheets and numbers and all that, what?! WOW.
And this means no offense to you or anybody else cuz I dont know you personally and to each his/her own. Whatever floats your boat. You wanna look at spreadsheets and stuff, hey, do yo thang!
But here's what I dont get...
How come when people come in here to "complain" as you guys say, about the market, yall jump down their throat. THEN when they go to defend themselves and others like them, you feel like you need to force your opinion down their throats and sway them. Now, I agree, yes, knowledge of the system DEFINATELY helps. But just because I understand the inner workings of, lets say, some other country's government, that doesnt mean I like the way it works.(bad analogy? sorry couldnt think of anything else at the moment lol)
Thank you Giant for having my back instead of telling me in so many words that my perspective is wrong and "do what I do you market-hater!" Hell, Goat, you could have even asked me what specifically I didnt LIKE about it and how YOU could help, look at my questions and posts elsewhere in this forum, I take advice VERY receptively even on things I really dont like only because I cant quite figure them out.
I've read some things here and there,I understand the market, I use the market(ask Tekada if you know him)...RARELY to drop stuff off yes, but I STILL dont like it very much. Not a market "hater" per se, just feel like maybe it could use some work or a different system.
I dont want to take away the market or anybody elses fun if you like it as is, thats not my goal. Again, its to help add to the voice of people who thinks theres just a better way to DO the whole market thing, thats all. -

Gonna say this in the nicest way possible...I aint got time to sway YOUR opinion and argue wit you all day about a video game bruh. Defeatist attitude? Never that.
However I didnt say everything in there was expensive. But its disheartening to know I gotta run around all day back and forth and hope and pray the prices have changed. I'd rather be playing the game since my time is limited.
I never said YOU stand around all day did I Goat? Again, my perspective obviously isnt YOUR perspective. So there was no need for you to reply really, keep on gettin your "shiny" and all that. I gets mine too, maybe a little slower than others but I gets mine. The post was talkin about people that feel the same way I do. Look, you have to understand where the market haters are coming from. I myself am a reluctant marketer. Essentially I only use the market because it's the only realistic way for you to get complete IO sets (sure you can get them with Merits, but that would take a very long time given the IO recipe Merit costs). If there were another, I'd happily use it instead. Right now, there's not. Making rare salvage available with Tickets was a big step in the right direction.
So why do people dislike it? Is it because they simply lack the knowledge/insight required to use it to its potential? No, that is one of the least reasons.
1. Most people are here to be the superhero or the supervillain. They're not here to be capitalists (even though there's nothing wrong with being a capitalist). Having to deal with the market ends the fun and starts the work. Sure, you can ignore it. If you don't mind being stuck with SOs. Faced with having to stop punching face and start plugging numbers into a boring interface, many players end up feeling frustrated with the very paradigm of the market. Remember that scene in The Incredibles when the main character is working for the insurance company, hears someone who needs help outside, but can do nothing about it because he's stuck at work? That is how a lot of people view the market.
2. A better system could have been implemented. Just look at how you can buy rare salvage with Tickets. That's how the whole system should work instead of a market. You're rewarded for playing the game instead of playing the market. In the current system, you're much more handsomely rewarded for playing the market. That's broken. A drop-trading system would have worked better, too (eg, any rare IO could be traded at a store for any other rare IO).
3. The market encourages distrust of other players. This is where that lack of knowledge comes in. Most players don't read the forums. They always suspect they're being taken advantage of when dealing with the market (and sometimes they're right). The game should never make people feel like this, it's bad for the community.
4. The market brought spam. IOs are partially responsible, but I'm sure playing the market makes a great way to generate Inf for gold sellers to farm up and sell. The market was ready-made for gold sellers, really.
I'm sure there are other reasons other people who question the market have too, but you can see here it isn't simple lack of knowledge that does it (though that can be a contributing factor, but only one among many).
Here's hoping you can buy specific recipes with Tickets and the Merit costs of specific recipes gets reduced from current, ridiculous levels. And here's hoping the market can be bypassed entirely with future modifications to the game along those lines. Until then I'll still use it...begrudgingly.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wasn't really gonna respond about this topic but when I saw this I had to say something because I agree with this right here.
While I am a casual player I guess, I use the market, but really I hate it. I'm not the guy that stands in Wentworth's for hours at a time, no thats not me. I see those outrageous prices and think to myself "wow, so the only way to afford this is if I stand here all day and mess with this market, or farm. Dam cant I have fun AND afford to be "uber-super-mega-ultra" like the farmers and Market Fanatics?"
This is the feeling I believe of most people who arent really into the market that much. I just wanna spend my time playing and when I come to the market I dont want to feel so hopeless as to never being able to have those super IO's. Or having to do something "unfun" to get them, only dream about them lol.
