You are of course free to conclude whatever you wish.

I would point out that I disliked what I saw and played of CoH's beta and expected I wouldn't care for it much after its release. Of course that's funny to reflect upon after I've now played CoX for over 60 months.

Obviously CO may prove to be a bad game for whatever reason and I might end up not liking it either. But I've learned not to assume what I see in a beta will be exactly what a game will end up being as a final product. YMMV.

I do agree that waving a red flag now is a bit stretching it. I understand people are skeptical but ya know, how many do you think said they hated WoW? I've had plenty of friends say, "I never thought I would do this..." and do just that. So it's possible it could still get you addicted.

and that's different from the 8 powers in guild wars, or the 10 here (yeah yeah, you have 10 trays, but I doubt anyone uses them all...I use 3 at most, and even they aren't filled)

People just want to find one little thing and complain about it, no matter how silly it is.

I wasn't referring to "looks" I was referring to the twitch based gameplay the powers look neat and all, but really I'm getting less and less interested.

Oh, and I hate WoW, hated it since ten minutes after I logged in. And I do use all three trays, and they are all full. Seven powers is too constricting, in a game where you can make "ANY" toon you want, what if I want 11 powers? Hmmmm doesn't seem like any to me....

Graphics mean next to nothing to me. After I've seen the visual sight once, I don't need to see it again, especially if it causes any lag.

The only thing about CO that enthralls me is the idea that they could convert Champions absolutely-fantastic-utterly-awesome combat system into a video game. I'm dubious, but interested.

Never argue with stupid people. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I use more then 10 powers on my Trick Arrow Defender alone.

I don't know what your playing, you realize 7 cover your defensive & offensive & travel, right?

Indeed.

CoX, I run 2 bars myself with only two slots open and a third bar about four slots in.

the fact that there's no aux bars available really turns me off, and the whole build swiching thing take like a minute to cooldown if you try to be cleaver with that

I have to admit though the idea of being just as effective in range as you are melee and having a heal support; is pretty nifty.

Now can be played exclusively with Phantasy Star Offline!

Actually, sod that, off to play PSO again. I miss my little Mag. I have to go abuse the thing again.

And Macros. By the time my toons are 35-38 my main 3 trays are full and I have 3 trays off to the side holding the lesser used stuff.

I've started using 4 trays on all my characters. Tray 4 holds my 5 teleport powers, SD, and my tarot cards. Trays 1-3 are full of regular powers.

10 powers... pfft. My new level 12 Brute already has 18 powers on her trays.

Looks awesome to me! Champion's graphcis seem perfectly designed for handling the primary colours and clean lines of iron-man-style super-armour. Its actually the more everyday sort of customes (such as yours truly tends to prefer) that Im worried about. The woman in the the Sorcery trailer looked so badly purportioned it was like a child's drawing.

All in all, though, it is a reasonably good-looking game. It is NOT photorealistic as CoH is, and its not meant to be.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think Champions Online looks awesome in screenshots. But the videos look awful. The game's great when everything is standing still. When they start moving, that's when I want to cry.

Let me explain. This is just my opinion, of course. I happen to like cell-shaded graphics, and I think the style works for a comic book game. But...

Champions Online is an action game. Therefore the power animations are fast. Very fast.

When you activate something, it animates within a second. Or less.

Yeah, I'm exaggerating a bit, but that's how it feels like. There's nothing wrong with fast animations, mind you. Champions is an action game, and you need everything to be fast in an action game.

Except...the Champions animations aren't just quick, they're also complex. So you have these elaborate poses and movements playing out really really quickly.

I don't want my character to twitch like he's being electrocuted. It looks like everyone's suffering from horrible seizures. I want a superhero game, not Dance Dance Revolution Online.

A lot of my friends aren't interested in Champions because it's a streamlined action-oriented game. But me - I love stuff like that. I'd play Champions, but the animations bother me. Not the art, the animations.

The animations in CO and how it played actually reminded me of the old arcade game, Pac Man.

Wow. I just watched a video of it for the first time. It seems really unprofessional. The animations just aren't fluid at all.

It's the way it causes flourescent colors and many whites to glow that makes black lighting look amazing.

-Co-Leader and recruiting officer of the Virtue Honor Guard

-Ace O' Diamonds lvl 50 fire/rad controller

Well, it has some very good things going for it. Expanded character customization/costume parts. Mix and match power customization. And the Champions name.

Unfortunately, the game looks terrible, plays worse and has little to do with Champions the PNP game aside from the name and characters.

I tried to like it, I really did. They did some things right. I like being able to make the character I want. Power armor blaster type character? Yup. You can't really do that with COX thanks to the archetypes sadly.

For myself though, I just can't see myself paying for this game. Maybe if it was free to play, I'd try it out. Otherwise.. hmmm, nah. I stick with COX.

SG Mate: Cien, what the hell is this Rookery thing?
RadDidIt: (interjecting) Dude. It's the Rookery.
SG Mate: Yeah, but what IS it?
RadDidIt: Silliness Incarnate.

Mountain over a mole hill

1 Is COX better than CO- they are different games which share a theme (heroes) some people will like one over the other
2 Should we pay attention? we really giving both more publicity that either deserve
at same time we are writing this over at CO someone is writing how COx sucked and calling us city of farmers
city of shields etc etc etc
Maybe if we stopped trying to trash CO and played our game like the devs of COx who havent responded to any trash talk but keep working on quality of game
they will sink themselves
im pretty sure a blow up in CO is inevitable just by who is their dev is (JE)
i love like oh so many people on the forum watching a self implosion aka train wreck
watch CO do it to themselves

as Ood Sigma said....We will sing to you, Doctor. The universe will sing you to your sleep. This song is ending. But the story never ends.

I cannot confirm nor deny that the current incarnation of CO sucks.

I cannot confirm nor deny that their keyboard controls are lacking, or that the game would not recognize my Logitech USB gamepad, instead of the XBox 360 gamepad I was supposed to use.

I cannot confirm nor deny that the graphics engine requires just as much horsepower as CoX but renders things much more simply, in a way that reminds me of a console RPG game circa, oh, 1990 or so.

I cannot confirm nor deny that their zone design is crowded, badly lit, to the point of claustrophobia.

Because... I cannot confirm nor deny that I am in the beta. Because if I was, their NDA would surely tell me not to confirm or deny anything in regards to the game or my presence therein.
