Damn Market!!

So I decided I want to make lots of money. I've read flipping salvage helps out in the start and I had about 30 million left over on my TF toon. So I picked about 2 pieces of rare, looked at the most recent transactions, and bought 10 of each, for what I thought was reasonable then placed them back on for what I saw was the highest going rate. So then I come back and...the last few transactions were selling less than what I paid!!!!!!! Damn fickle market!

Should I stick it out or cut my loses and repost? (its been 3 days) On a stack of 10, what would be a reasonable amount of profit per piece? Is it a slow steady increase that slowly builds up?

Also, I put some Pounding Slugfests up there as well, crafted and no ones buying! Also posted for the going rate. (so go buy them!)

Bonus question: Im going to buy a Numina Unique with Merits and post it to get myself some more starting money, what level would fetch the highest price? (Im assuming 50?)

Agreed. Items tend to be in less demand and have less value during the week, vs. being more in demand and thus possessing a higher value over the weekend.

Having said that, stupid things still happen. I bought a stack of rare recipes, crafted the IOs, and checked the last five sales. All had been for eight million. So I posted five for seven million. A week later, none had sold, and the last five was now at five million. I pulled three down, and posted them back up for three million. None have sold, and this past weekend the last five was down to one to two million apiece. I haven't relisted, but every market slot tied up is going to waste.

I missed something, somewhere. Some of the stupid was my own, but sometimes the market just gets you.

I'd wait for the weekend as well. Also, I almost always try buying the lowest level unique as possible, so 30 Numina. I'm at work atm, but think lvl 20 Miracles and 25 LotG's might be worth more than the Numinas. GL!

this may be part of your issue. If an IO is seeling for say 2 million, do not put it up for 2 million, or 1 999 999, as the savvy marketeers are listing theirs for significantly less.

If you have reasonable expectation that said item will return to the price your selling for, buy more while they're dropping.

Let's use and example of a fictional item based on an item I buy and sell all the time. We'll call it a Rupie. Sometimes they sell for 50,000. But that's not reasonable. I have however known them to sell for 5 to six hours at 10,000 easy.

So one day last week I log on to find all of my buy orderes filled at 4,000. Ahhhh, happy. BUT, the last transactions were all below 500!!!! YIKES right? Naw.

I pocketed all my 4k buys for the moment and bid 10 at 100, 10 at 200, 10 at 222, 10 at 444, 10 at etc etc etc up to 10 at 4000 again. I had one slot open to do the sells.

Well, all my buy orderers filled, buying out whoever had the ridiculous lowball inventory (turned out to be over 30 of them) and then... 10,000, 10,000, 10,000 price was back up.

Now, I had a new inventory to sell at 5000 and my old at 10,000. Put them all up at a nice round 8,888.

Not always fullproof, but can work.

I have tried flipping salvage two or three times. I lost my shirt one time and my pants the other. Boxer shorts for the win. People say "learn it on something cheap, so you can afford your mistakes." I didn't do that.

There are weird things going on in the market- we had a huge wave of insta-50s with very little stuff, and a huge wave of tickets being turned into stuff, and prices were all over the place in consequence. I got the hell out and am slowly getting back in.

One thing about craft and sell (As done by me): I don't buy more than two of the same recipe at the same time, and I only list one at a time. This avoids getting burnt too badly. I might get crisped up, because I've been doing nothing today but posting my secrets for making money, but I can usually sell ONE, say, Impervium Armor +Res at a good profit.

I also kinda stay away from the really big items- Numina's Very Shiny for instance- because that seems like a high-competition market where everyone pays a lot of attention. Same with purples. I think that's where the billionaires make their money, though, so I could be wimping my way out of the big leagues.

I figure that most of everything on the market is put there by level 50's. So you'll see most of your buying and selling at max level of the enhancement set. That's where I set up my storefront, as a result.

Generally max level fetches the highest price. On the global and proc IO's (of which Numina is a member), the lowest level can fetch a similar and sometimes higher price than the max level. Best practice would be to check the sales history and the number for sale/bidding, and determine from there.

The bolded is what I would say your mistake was. Just because a particular item is going for say, 100k, doesn't mean the people that are listing their items at a 100k are selling. Usually, it's the people selling the same stuff at 86,111, or some other number.

The trick when listing your items, is to see the price you want for it, list it for under that, so yours get sold first, but above the next increment down that people will be likely to bid creep at. To use the above example, something regularly going for 100k, people searching for a deal will often bid creep 75k, 75,111, 75,555, 77,777, or even 80k, but rarely do they go beyond that before deciding 100k isn't that much more than what they were trying to get it for anyway, and plunk down the full price.

Hope that makes sense, and I hope it helps. Congratz on gaining the ambition to join the CoX billionaire club. I'm currently in the same boat, having finally broken into salvage flipping, and now the richest character I've ever had is fully IOed out and sitting on 350mil. 1 billion, here I come!

At which point you should probably buy more of them and relist them at 200K...

Or,

You can give some newbie in Atlas or Mercy the ~330K excess profits from bilking the casual
gamers lest ye be judged Ebil.

Or,

You can make another post on how difficult and time consuming it is making influence
using the market...

Based on your history, I've placed my personal bet on which way you'll go (purely
for the amusement value, of course)...

Munki, i could reply to you in some childish way but i'll leave those posts to you.

Well, the only reason i did it was because i was buying some commons for an alt and seen the price crafted. Then seen the price for the recipe uncrafted. Big increase. Made a couple for the heck of it.

I will NOT continue to do this. It doesn't appeal to my play style to run back and forth crafting, buying, etc. The inf can be made, just not my cup of tea. I have several hundred million inf from selling drops, i don't need/want to spend time flipping or crafting. I have no desire to be a billionaire. That's all. Laters.

All you people watching prices and no one noticed the friends and family program? I just watched an item sell for 190k less than my bid. And NO it wasn't done before my bid. The bid had up for some time, I sat there and watched it sell for less than I was offering right before my eyes. Wentworths has always worked this way. I have had stuff sell for more than I was selling it for. I had it listed for weeks and it sold for less than I was asking several times. I finally gave up and sold it for next to nothing to a member of the friends and family program no doubt.

So you people can do all the cute bidding in the world, the bottom line is, unless your in the friends and family program your NOT getting square deal.

This is for all who will reply that WW is great and it never happened to me: Congratulations your in the friends and family program.

I am not the only one who has noticed this.

Odd, I've never heard of this "friends and family" program, and I do just fine on the market. Maybe if you wore a tinfoil hat like I do when I play it would help. Just a thought.

i have noticed this friends and family program numerous times. my worst experience would have to be this one time i got a good recipe drop got about 40 million on my fire tank decided to buy a karma that goes for about 10-15 million (but if you really want it you have to bid about 20 million) so i bid on a level ten the amount bidding went up so i decided to cancel and try to bid on another one and i ended up getting a lvl 17 one then i noticed i have no money left, it bought the lvl 10 without even notifying me it just went straight to my recipes and i got screwed so i want what i paid back (20 million) and cannot sell it. ive seen them go for what i ask and i have had it up for about a month but im in no hurry. to bad i cant join the friends and family, but instead get reamed by the corrupt, laggy, glitched, hole that is wentworth.
