Newb Q - What's with crafted selling for so much??
[ QUOTE ]
There's an SO market? I guess there is, but since the upside would be limited by SO vendors, I'd ignore it.
[/ QUOTE ]
For real quick cash to get my newbies started and to avoid the trouble of transferring inf between characters I use SO's. Buy a bunch of lvl 40-50 SO's off the market, which you can often get for less than 1k each, sell to npc for 20k to 30k each. Usually easy half a million in a few minutes. You don't even have to craft at all to make some easy starter cash. I laugh when I share that "secret" and people in game say I'm such a market player, really now?
Well I made over 10m inf in the last 3 days playing about 30 mins in the morning and 1 hour in the evening. Been too busy to actually play the game but logging on to marketeer is quick and rewarding. I started with ~2m (from drops and such...just playing normally) and I haven't been investing super aggressively yet (tho I just put some big orders on the market this morning). During this time I've gotten about half my 25/30 crafting badges and made money off every IO I crafted (tho not enough per slot profit to make it worth my while to keep making them).
I feel comfortable enough making inf in this game now that I'm no longer worried about inf in the slightest. I started looking into IO sets for my character...putzing around in Mids and picking stuff that looked fun then checking prices on the BM. Surprisingly, some of the stuff I want I could probably craft a full set for 1-2m inf. (A full set of Stupefy L25-30 for instance, for my Mace Brute). I look at some of the more desired sets (Crushing Impact) and just don't see the value in paying 2-5m more per enhancement. Maybe I need to start spending more time back in the Brute forum to figure out WHY people want those sets so much more.
Anyhow, just wanted to thank everyone once again. I am no longer stressing about min/maxing since inf is no longer an issue. I'll get some IO sets that I want, and if I learn in a week or a month that I've gimped myself...I'll just buy more. :-D It's amazing how having a lot of money frees you from some of the stresses of being a newb.

I do it all the time with level 50 Adjusted Targetting IOs. Its an IO almost everyone wants, the salvage is cheap, and the recipes are cheap. I've made good money off them when I have the time, I'm usually too busy leveling/PvPing.
Stillhart: I'm new at this as well and have learned a bunch from this thread also. The advice that Fulmens said and stuck with me is: If you didn't leave your bid up overnight, then you didn't bid at all.
I would also echo the comment that the IOs YOU want to use are the same everyone else wants to use. Focus on those. I've had tremendous luck there becuase I know the IOs and am already watching them. Just as a side note, last night I found a trade where I netted 9 million INF in one day (did it 3 times). I found this trade b/c I won the recipie from an AE roll then I looked at the price I could sell the recipe or the cost to build it and sell it. When I noticed the wide spread ... I jumped. I invested 15M per recipie and sold them for ~25M.
The biggest mistake I made was not watching the volume. Not a big deal to find a trade that looks good ... but to find one that trades well too ... that's the sweet spot for me.

Then there are others that think market manipulation is bs. Doesn't feel real heroic to sell something for 100x the actual cost just because you can. As a long tooth I feel sorry for the newbies without disposable. There is nothing worse then leveling and not slotting cause you dread the time it will take away from actually running missions to slot up. I for one applaud your effort and ability to find satisfaction ripping of others to turn a quick buck.
I sure hope rogue addresses this and condemns heroes and rewards villains for such actions. Look what greed has done to our country.
Quietly filling your coffer not because I'm stupid but because I'd much rather spend the night helping my team and others play the game not exploting them...crafting in middle of mission while rest earn you experience sweet idea=kick.

I hope you're not responding to me (the OP) with this. There are so many things wrong with it, it's hard to know what to address first.
[/ QUOTE ]
don't bother addressing those types. They have this insane notion that a market is "unfair" if it actually involves them being unable to slot out in purples with no effort whatsoever.
They also have a bad tendency to think economics is based completely on "greed" and that strict pricing controls would make the world a better place even irl.

So I found a recipe that I've been building for ~1-1.5m and selling for 5m. I've sold all of the ones that have been sold in the last few days...something like 5 or 6 so far. I moved on to one that costs 4m to make and sells for 15m. I sold one of those in like 4 hours and have another up on market already. I only have about 5mil cash on hand but all my slots are taken up and I have some 30-50m inf tied up in slots. I'm also flipping some rare salvage while I'm at it since it's ridiculously easy money.
Not bad in less than a week from 2m seed!
PS - I also started crafting myself a few IO sets, which is why my totals might seem a little low. I doubt I've spent more than 2-5m on myself so far but already I can feel the difference in SMASH levels. :-]
Hi guys, i'm new to all this. Quick question:
When selling crafted IO's is it often better to list them slightly below the value of the last 5 sold?
Always if there is a decent number listed.
If the last 5 are showing 2 000 000 each, and you list at 2 000 000, you simply will not get the sale until everything listed below you is sold.
Personally I'd be listing just above either 1 500 000 or 1 750 000, depending upon my own costs, and how quickly I wanted to move the item.
Of course if mine is the only one listed, I would be tempted to list at least at 2 000 001

It depends.
At certain times of the day/week they can be grossly overselling and at others a badger may have dumped stock and driven the price too low.
Another factor you need to consider is how quickly do you want to sell to clear your slot.
And the final factor is how much is your bare minimum to profit that satisfies you.
You really need to study it and see. The best thing to do would be to make a few of the most popular ones: accuracy, damage, endurance modification, endurance reduction, and recharge reduction and list them at a couple different price points to get a feel for them over the course of a week.
More people tend to play on the weekends and they tend to play more and therefore level more so sales can be more brisk and higher on the weekends than during the week in general but if supplies run low and people are in a hurry they can pay the highest at the deadest times.

One thing I have been doing is picking a level of profit I'm comfortable with and listing at that. I make sure beforehand, though, that that price point is below the current going rate. That way, I'm likely to sell first AND make more than I'm asking. Sure, I may get lowballed by someone, but I picked that price because it's my minimum...like an eBay reserve...so I'm never upset if I do get lowballed.
But yes, timing is everything. Salvage that was going for 1.5m all weekend is now going for 300k. I've been snatching that up like nobody's business. I'll probably wait until this weekend and post them at 900k-ish. They'll probably sell for 1.5m but even if they sell for 1m, I'll triple my money and I'll be fine with that.

I have been, but the IO's I've been selling fairly rapidly haven't sold in the last 3 days. I've got some capital tied up there and once those sell, I'll move on to a different set for a few days. Actually, I checked this morning and won a 10m recipe for 4.5m. I could flip it or build and sell it for 15-20m. That should be fun.
But as far as salvage, I have been flipping one rare for 7m per stack, which is actually pretty decent inf per slot. I know it's not the big time, but until I have 100m in my wallet, not just tied up in orders, I'll stick with the slow and steady income. And besides, I'm not using many slots for that, it's more of a constant stream while the big orders lurk.
Mid-week lull is all. It should start picking up tonight by the people who set stuff up for the weekend.

Interesting .... I like where your heads at. I've got the same scenario going on as well with some of my IOs ... I *was* going to clean them out and place them up at reduced prices. I think instead I'll wait until Monday to slash those IOs that arent selling.
... and I'll think about your salvage idea...
Cheers for the advice guys. Managed to make over 120M in my first day across three characters. (Mainly because I had a bunch of tickets left over from the AE madness a couple weeks back.)
Also managed to lose about 20M figuring out that you get charged for listing. >.<
Can't figure out how to sell HO's for the life of me though. I've got about 50 of them to get through the market but people aren't biting. Will leave them up over the weekend and see if any weekend warriors bite.

HO's are a different animal altogether IMHO... I dabble in this market on a regular basis and the price swings on the ones that I play with are crazy.
I view HO's as a long term project taking up to 2 weeks to sell but the profit margin has been in the 25-30 million range.
I know that you can make 10 times more than that with others because I do it to. But i like to dedicate one of my 18 (or is it 19 ) slots to some odd ball project.

I do small stuff and figure I make 3-4 mil per item I sell, I will post things to make only 500K to clear a recipe or supply the market on a slow sell item. I also gone and made 30-40 mil per sell at the last push for my ebil. those dont alway turn around as fast.

Really thinking of biting the bullet and getting into this myself. This might just keep me subbing a bit longer if I could get into the inf/market games.

Yeah the weekend is nuts for these sort of things.
When/if I get into these types of things, I'll need to remind myself to have patience till the weekend swings around on many items I'll be putting up/playing with.
Once saw a purple that normally goes for 80-100 mil go for 175 mil during the weekend.

Aura: I recommend starting with a couple small items and see if it gives you the "I'm in the money!" feeling when it sells. My classic "first one's free" is a level 30 Karma: Def/End. It used to [everything changes] cost under half a million to buy everything and craft it, and sell for about two million.
It's a simple positive-reinforcement loop. If you like it, you'll do it again. If you don't, you won't.

a good indication of what is selling well would be any item that has all of it's last 5 sales dated for the current day or maybe 1-2 days previous.
Things flow well at 5 level intervals, as well as at the level cap for given recipes (like entropic chaos at level 35 or imprevium armor at level 40, or doctored wounds at level 50).
I am an ebil markeeter and will steal your moneiz ...correction stole your moneiz. I support keeping the poor down because it is impossible to make moneiz in this game.
