going rogue - or just playing the other ATs?

Where is the faction slider in this?

Our heroes have been to Preatoria / alternate universe before and never switched alignment.

My guess is that we will have a hero <--> villain meter and doing missions / whatever actions and choices will move that meter one way or the other. If you move beyond a specific point you will no longer be accepted by your old faction but will be able to go to the other. Thus having stalkers and MM under the Atlas statue and scrappers and blasters working for Arachnos.

After all, the only difference between a hero and a villain game mechanic wise is a simple flag...

Anyway, we'll see sooner or later.

This is correct. I'll go further and say that there will be three Cities when GR hits: Paragon City, Rogue Isles, and Praetoria.

Paragon is Hero only, RI is Villain only, and Praetoria is accessible to everyone. While in Praetoria, you can do stuff that will affect your alignment. If a Hero does enough Bad stuff, he will lose access to Paragon City and only be able to access the Rogue Isles. The same goes for a Villain with the locations reversed, obviously.

Personally I welcome this entire idea as it allows me to finally bring my red side hero toons (yes, my dom and MM are heroes and RP'd as such) over to Paragon City where they really belong.

[/ QUOTE ]

Heh, some of us already do this -- via Mission Architect.

My MA Mastermind will never see Rogue Isles, except to train up skills; I intended to level him up entirely in the MA playing heroic missions.

[/ QUOTE ]

Well that's wonderful but it hasn't solved the idea of wanting to have your red side toons teamed with blue side toons outside the co-op zones. I've largely done the same for newer toons when applicable. This expansion conceivably does that for real though, which is why some have wanted it for a while.

I'd like to actually team with blue side friends while using my redsiders. Have my dom explore the Shadow Shard or run through a STF. Have my widow take on Nocturne in Faultline to get revenge for her kidnapping and brainwashing into service for Recluse. Let my MM's bots provide fire support for lowbies in Atlas during Rikti or Zombie invasions.

MA is nice, but it doesn't let you do the stuff that's uniquely blue side. That's why I'm looking forward to this.

I really think this is how it'll work as well. Honestly, if all it does is let heroes access a mirror version of the isles and villains a mirror paragon, the expansion will be a complete and utter waste that does nothing to really change the games dynamics, imo.

CoH: GR comes out.

My Blaster and Warshade go red.

I bid Paragon City goodbye.

(Caveat: If I would lose my Blaster's 1st Anniversary badge, I might not cross him over)

Highly unlikely that any badges would be removed following a side switch, though some might have their names automatically changed in the process (Villain/Redeemed, etc)

On the one hand, I like the mastermind and stalker I've played, but don't like redside content, so I want to bring my villains over to Paragon City and never look back. On the other hand, I don't really want to abandon half the game, even though I don't like that half.

In either case, it gives me an incentive to level up my villains. That can't be a bad thing. And who knows, maybe I'll find a few more redside arcs I like.

And depending how hard side switching is and what incentive there is for not doing so, I'd be sorely tempted to bring my blaster over to rack up badges. At least the ones available to heroes that are difficult to get on blueside.

I did post it before, because I cannot find it, but I could of sworn I saw an interview/article that mentioned being able to choose an AT then starting in Pratoria, letting your choices there decide your moral compass.

Not me. Unless power customization comes about and it allows me to design how I want my MM minions to look, I probably won't even bother using ATs on the other side. But I have absolutely no desire to explore any "gray area" between the two sides. Call me old fashioned, but I like my heroes good and my villains bad, and none of this anti-hero nonsense.

I would just call you bitter, and it's surprising that you don't believe in anti-heroism.

In the Going Rogue expansion, hero and villain characters will become immersed in the new parallel universe known as Praetoria, which is governed by Tyrant™

This plus the fact that there is a silhouette of a new city on title, like Coh has the Paragon silhouette, and Cov has the Rogue Islands silhouette, is a pretty good indicator. And it is also an Expansion, not an Issue. (although it may be an issue also)

im more interested in the alignment bar than actually switching sides. Partially because vills do have access to different content than heroes, and i'd like to preserve that, but also because of how many of my redsiders are written, they may be good, but distrust of the paragon inhabitants or self imposed exile prevents them fromfully turning, but its better this way because i still will have access to vill stuff even though i dont care for playing villains in any game i play(such as morrowind, kotor, fallout, and the like.) I will probably have to create soem new characters just to turn because right now it wouldnt make sense to do so..though i would really like to see the exemplary hero/vill thing, making rian more than good, or terra(my night widow) more than evil, that could be intriguing.

While not explicitly mentioning a new city, you should check out this interview, notably:

MMORPG.com: Will Going Rogue introduce new missions to the game, or simply allow hero characters to experience villain content and vice-versa?

Matt Miller: Lots of new missions. Lots. It's not just "make your Mastermind into a Hero" and call it a day. What is the path your Mastermind takes? What is the trigger that got them to consider a line between good and evil? What made them cross that line?

I'm excited about this. It adds a very deep layer of flavor to the game. It lets the player experience redemption or the fall to villainy. I'd love to try a mastermind out on the heroside content, and I'd love to run a blaster through some of the villainside material. Being able to do this, and running through stories where I can gradually change their alignment, sounds VERY fun and interesting. I'm psyched.
