Powersets you want, but realize are unlikely!

Adhesive Control
Imagine a powerset in which the player launched adhesives at his opponents to control them. One power would spray glue on the ground to snare enemies. Another sprays a thick layer of glue on an enemy knocking them back into and then sticking them against then nearest wall.

Problems:

My concept for using this power is a Tech hero with a Super-soaker-like cannon. However, it's really darn close to the web-throwing powers of a certain trademarked Science hero who's been in 3 blockbuster movies lately.

This power would have a lot of crossover with Traps, Devices, and Trick Arrow.

The 'Spooge' jokes would never, ever end.


Dancing Power Pool
By being an expert dancer, you gain the ability to attack your enemies and defend yourself with lightning quick dance moves. "Kick, 1, 2, Strike, 1, 2, Dodge 1, 2". You'd need four or five powers in the pool: High kick (Single target kick attack with a chance for Stun), Defensive Spin, (Toggle to have a chance to spin away from attacks), Tap Dance (You stun or confuse an enemy by dancing in front of them and shove them around), Offensive Spin (deal light damage to all enemies in melee range, and have a small chance of knocking them down.)

Problems: Besides having a bit of overlap with fighting and leaping pools, the animation for this pool would be a NIGHTMARE for the devs. Not only would you have to do the animations for the attacks, you'd have to come up with transitions for dancing into attacks.

Many players wouldn't like the default dance animations, so you'd have to come up with a way to allow players to pick from a few different default sets of dance moves like Ballet, Moshing, Club dancing, etc...

A ballet-themed dancer would do a graceful pirouette and catch all the enemies with her outstretched foot. A mosh-pit themed dancer would swing around with his fists outstretched and clobber all his enemies that way.

I'd love to see it, but I can't help but think that the devs would balk at the animation time required.

Additionally, a lot of players would complain that having Dancers around would distract them.

I wouldn't mind having teleport attack set...where instead of clicking the person then clicking the attack, you click the power, click the targets you want, then click a finish point. and watch the animation

Horribly abuseable in pvp though unless you make the finish port right next to the last target

Ya know, if they just give us a costume/model creator for MM pets then most of us who want variety will be satisfied. You don't even need to let us change their powers.

Ok...now this has potential...Mako's patrons already have this to a certain extent. But Bear hug for your single target hold, octopus for multiple target hold, a spirit cobra that does toxic damage, you could have a spirit swarm as a tier one toxic attack, a spirit electric eel...the possibilities are endless and as "spirit animals" when you hit them PETA won't throw a fit

2. Elementals (Mastermind) - Basic premise being that you summon elementals as your pets. We already have some current in-game options for this. Look at the Magmite Lords in the Hollows. Or at simple ole Fire Imps.
-Minions: Fire Imp models with Fire Blast powers
-LTs: Magmite Lord or Devouring Earth Sentry models with Stone Melee powers.
-Boss: Elemental Storms from the Shadow Shard "models" to provide energy damage and some control.
A little bit of damage from fire, smash, and energy. It'd go great with /Storm too!

What would I like that is unlikely to be implemented? A Time Manipulation powerset! I want to be able to pop my tier 9 and have all the NPC's and players in the entire map/zone frozen in time while I walk around like Hiro and rearrange the world to my satisfaction.

I just don't want anyone else to have that powerset!

My #1 CoH wish that will not happen.
If I could, I'd punch holes in reality to have shadow punch, smite, siphon life, crane kick, dragon's tail and eagle's claw on one character.

Other than that, a new buff/debuff set that does not involve me clicking on my teammates one by one to rebuff them every few minutes would be so awesome it might never happen.

Random wishlist:

As expensive as these are to make, I'd hazard a guess and say I don't expect to see anything of this sort to grace the hero creation screen.

I wonder if the game can fetch the costume data of one player character and then spawn a duplicate. Since there are no such encounters or cut scenes, pattern recognition says no.

Off the top of my hat I can recall several costume pieces that would need variations made just for this one powerset. That is, if the powers system can swap textures on characters. Two frownies for this one.

A number of these sets sound like they be more suited for a 4-5 power pool in addition to the current APPs. The "laser rifle" of the OP might be a bit gimped if it's ST only for a full set, but if you only need 4 variations it could be easier.

Who says it would be ST only? He said more ST focused than AR (which has 3 Cones, an AoE, and a placed AoE), not ST-only. The Robots one has an AoE in it, someone else mentioned a "Laser Full Auto" like the robots themselves have.

Also, keep the title in mind here. People are talking about things they'd like but realize are unlikely, so there's no reason to be arguing against any of them.

Well I didn't say ST-only hehe; just more focused that way.

If you look at AR for example, it has 3 Cones, a targetted AoE, and a ground target AoE.

So for Laser Rifle you'd get more like:

Laser Blast - Moderate Single Target

Laser Burst - High Single Target

Burn Through - High Damage, very narrow cone (as in "almost single target, but if you have a line of mobs you'll hit them all)

Plasma Grenade (Like the Mastermind version)

High Capacity (Ie: Aim)

Overcharge (Moderate, Ground Target AoE, knockback)

Target Acquired (Snipe w/ -Res; the -Res doesn't kick in until after the shot is fired however. Either that or adjust the damage down so that the -Res still leaves it at normal Sniper damage)

Flashbolt (Moderate, Stun)

Full Power (Superior, Stun, Fire DoT)



You still have 2 "real" AoEs, and you also have an AoE that requires some aiming; but the overall focus is on eliminating specific targets.

(this is of course off the top of my head)

Water powers. I could see both water blasts (geysers, water streams, water bursts, etc.) and Water Control (hold your enemies in water bubbles, etc.).
Magnetism - blasts or control, again.
Shape-shifting - probably a scrapper set. Turn into a bear, or an ape, or a tiger or lion and attack your foe.
Animal Control - summon a python to hold your foe, or a rhino to charge at a group for knockback and smashing damage. Spirit animals as was suggested before would be fine, too.
Magic - I had started work on a Control set that used magician's props to hold, stun, disorient, etc. Flurry of cards would send a storm of playing cards to disorient. The magician could hurl steel rings to hold foes. Or scraves could bind them. For a pet, could summon a Playing Card King, Queen and/or Jack to go out and fight for you. Or a giant rabbit.

Villainside Kheldians.

Warmakers, which are Peacebringers corrupted by Mu magic into the service of Arachnos. They and their powers would be red accented with lightning instead of normal Peacebringer colors. Instead of the normal Dwarf, they'd turn into a giant glowing red spider that spits lightning for Energy/Toxic damage.

Nictus, which would naturally mostly have Warshade powers. Perhaps with a more evil theme, like sucking energy from the living. You could add some Nictus only powers; like Summon Lesser Nictus, which summons a less powerful Nictus that possesses an enemy ( Confuse, basically - or perhaps turns them into a temporary pet ). Or Possession, which lets you stealth by possessing an enemy NPC ( Lieutenant or below ). There were some pre-SOA VEAT speculation threads with cool ideas for this.

To the OP:

I would like to see a blue-coloured Electrical Control/Electrical Blast Controller combo (with the Gremlins from Cap au Diable as the pet) for a new powerset -- but can't imagine this powerset being put into the game without being "gimped" to prevent a whole new class of farmers springing up overnight...

For me, the best part of writing my first MA storyarc was creating 10 new powersets and 2 new epic archetypes for my custom villain group, the Malta Prisoners...

Recycling existing powersets recombined in ways currently unavailable to the players, I "created" what I call...

a Psionic Defense/Energy Blast Defender...
a Time Control/Time Manipulation Controller...
an Ice Melee/Ice Armour Brute...
a Storm Summoning/Electrical Blast Dominator...
a Radiation Debuff/Radiation Emission Tanker...

OK, this was all enabled by "poetic license", but still, my long-held desire to create a "Warbringer" VEAT was finally fulfilled by combining Dark Melee (Nictus Melee) with Pain Domination (Nictus Aura) and adding the tendrils aura to the toon's fists and head!
