Oy! I have a war mace/shield group (minions & lieutenants) I'll definitely need to rework ... not to mention a plant/psi assault boss (among others).

Not to threadjack, but are we able to load local MA files to the test server MA? (The test server doesn't pick up arcs published on live does it?)

Do a Save As while editing your published arcs. Then copy these subdirectories from your Live Client directory to the Test Client directory.
* Missions
* Custom_Critter
* CustomVillainGroup

Then when you long onto Test you'll find the mission in your "Local Stories" tab and critters in "My Characters".

Does anyone else get the APP power change vibe from these alterations? Some of the changes make you want to ask "Have you played this game?"

I think the best solution to this problem is the same as for the APP misstep: Adding an extra option. That might require more work than is possible even for I15 though.

Critters becoming more powerful is the point.

It is evident that due to rampant farming, the Custom Critter minimum performance needs to be higher than it started as.

I personally am all in favor of tougher minimum critters (due to farming; not to punish anyone, but obviously the critters are not challenging enough out of the box for hardcore players). But it is just going to be tough to do without making the critters more annoying, especially in large groups. You just can't give a critter 5 powers out of a powerset (in the vast majority of cases) without ending up with a mez, a debuff, mez protection, or a strong self boost.

I am in favor of the baked in ranged attacks as a stopgap for now; they are appropriate in a generic sense, but I am also in favor of a mandaotory ranged attack pool when the code can be written for that. I would not expect it this month, or before this patch hits Live.

Rebuilding your missions is just going to be a way of life. Not just when the Devs break something, but also when they release a new feature you want to take advantage of. If they gave us the ability to choose powers with check boxes tomorrow, we would all be redoing our critters anyway, just with less complaining (or with more, if it also bloated the critter filesize).

I feel the pain about the energy blasting Trolls, but the same imagination that coverted an energy punch into a 'really strong hit' will have to be employed to convert the energy blast into a hurled object of some kind.

For defenses we need 3 levels:
1) resistances/defenses
2) better resistances/defenses, mez protection
3) self rez or other special powers

For attacks we need these levels
1) a couple of cycling attacks (tier 1 and 2, plus ranged)
2) a complete chain of attacks, a control or other special power
3) add a nuke or other massive burst damage attack

Do we really need them to have aim/build up at all?

I am thinking more like:

Standard: Damage dealing attacks, damage resistance, defense.

Hard: Debuffs/Buffs below 30%, short mezzes, status protection against things other than Holds

Extreme: Rezzes, 'godmodes', nukes, mezzes that last more than 4 seconds, stronger debuffs and buffs

I am absolutely in favor of Build Up and similar powers being available at Extreme for those people who want to challenge themselves or those who dare to play in their arcs (so long as those arcs are properly labelled).

The problem is not what is available at Extreme, it's what is available at Standard and Hard, where you want to build balanced or unusual critters.

my concern with that is if you add a tier 9 attach which probably does double what the other attacks do - and then add build up - suddenly going to extreme gives you an attack that does 4x the damage you did before.

Build up instead of a tier 9 makes sense, but I'd rather have the tier 9 for variety and skip the build up

I'm not sure I get this comment. Custom critters hit *much* harder than the standard NPCs. The problem many of us have had since beta is creating custom enemies that don't wipe us out quickly.

Most of the "farms" I've seen consist of hand-picked standard critters (Rikti, Freaks, etc.), not customs.

By and large, custom critters are tougher right now. If you want to keep a mission easier while still fighting custom bosses, load up with standard NPCs and add your own end boss.

Custom critters do not need to be made tougher, just better balanced.

The Boss Power List is complete now. It's one page back.

One of my biggest concerns with Bosses now is that they HAVE to have a tier-9 attack no matter what.

Because Throwing Knives is really going to be a major threat to those farmers hovering overhead...

I've yet to see a popular farm that consisted of primarily customs. They have almost always been existing hand picked dev creations.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's tolerance threshold has been surpassed.

Ah man, I just dunno what to do. I'm so bummed about Gang War getting removed from minons, plus Aim/Build up getting added onto Hard. I really wish there was some way we could make them see just how bad this plan is, but at this pint I guess im resigned to having it go live and F everything up before they make some half-arsed attempt and putting it right... <sigh>

For some people. MA is about making what people want to make confined by the limitations of the system.

That might be:
Stories
Challenges
Cool maps
Cool enemies
Farms*
or w/e someone can come up with. CoX has always taken the shotgun approach to providing for the customers. This game offers an option for almost every type of player. Granted none of them are done particularly well, but just like how Baskin Robbins isn't the best icecream, the variety is attractive.

MA is an extension of that philosophy. And true to form as demonstrated in this thread and others, is not particularly great either. But it is good enough and offers enough variety to pull in a lot of people.

I don't want to comment on everything here, but in terms of providing a constructive version of, "Me too," I would like to echo the concerns about the inclusion of Energy Drain (a) at all, for minions and (b) at anything below extreme for other classes of enemies. Being able to populate a mission with predictable spawns that can drain every melee character to zero end (very easy, with multiple Energy Drains happening at once) within seconds of engagement is the antithesis of fun.

There are two things that consistently make me quit arcs, and those are the over-use of to-hit debuffs and the over-use of end drain. I very much hope that the Energy Drain (and Darknest Night) decisions get some serious attention pre-promotion.

Wow. Looking over that list there's only one change I really approve of and that's moving Detention Field to Extreme.

All custom units are now MUCH harder than they were before. They were already really tough, especially for low level characters. This change is going to make lieutenants and bosses way more difficult. Before, I did both on hard/hard. Now, even if I put them on standard/standard they're going to be HARDER. Seriously! ALL bosses have 5-6 attacks minimum? Including tier 9s?

Please, please, PLEASE, for the hundredth time, revisit the power selection process. Set a minimum (old standard, with a few small twewaks like the Detention Field thing) and a maximum (old extreme), and let the players select which powers they want to ADD on top of the MINIMUM. This will have ZERO EFFECT on farmers/exploiters because they still get the minimum now. But people who actually care about this stuff can pick and say, yes I want Foot Stomp but not Rage and not Knockout Blow. Yes I want Strength of Will but not Resurgence.

PLEASE listen to the players on this. This is a VERY BAD change, on par with the proposed epic changes. This change is giving the players LESS control over the powers that units have and making them WAY harder.

Yes. Because my custom archvillain in an arc geared toward level 25-32 players needs Total Focus to be a "challenge." Because everyone playing MA missions is a hardcore player.

One of the big problems with custom critters is that they have all the powers you give them, regardless of level. The only way you could made a lowbie-friendly arc was to set everything to standard, and even then some power sets were a no-no. I'm not necessarily disagreeing with your general problem; I'm still firming up my thoughts on the various changes. However, in your specific case, why not use /Super Strength? It sounds like it'd be a lot more troll-like than /Energy Melee anyway, and with Hurl as an actual ranged power they may be less likely to use Shuriken from their Martial Arts/.

I have an entire faction of Trolls, including:

Minions:
Martial Arts/Assault Rifle
Thugs/Stone Melee
Super Strength/War Mace

Lieutenants:
Martial Arts/Willpower
Stone Melee/Earth Armor
Super Strength/Invuln

Bosses:
Super Strength/Invuln
Energy Melee/Willpower

EBs:
Energy Melee/Invuln

AVs:
Energy Melee/Shield Defense
Super Strength/Willpower

If I got rid of EM and MA to replace with SS, I'd end up with a pretty crappy and very repetitive gang, at which point it'd almost be pointless to even be using custom units.

I'm all for the ranged powers being added, but give us options. I'd gladly give all those ones that lack ranged attacks guns, rubble to throw, or Hurl-like powers. But the stuff they're adding is really out of character and I'm not sure what I'm going to do.
