Spam Emails

i recently sent a petition to ncsoft about the spam emails. they sent me a response telling me to put the spammers global on the ignore list. I then sent them one saying the spammers just create a new global and continue. my ignore list is so full, it has to push one out to add another. so my idea to them was to create a "do not accept emails" option in the option menu or "accept from friends list/sg members" only option. they said, yet again, to put it on the forum and see what kind of feedback it gets. either no one has thought of this yet or the devs chose not to implement it in any of the last few issues. so im bringing it up again to see what you all think and to add your own ideas/comments and maybe we can get it in a patch or Issue 15.

p.s. on the off-chance this already exists, where the heck is it? I can't find it.

It's been suggested before, I know. The place to post this is really in the Suggestions section. The dev's don't really read stuff here as a rule, so it's more likely to be see there. And there may well be a thread going with this suggestion already.

That said, only accepting from friends/SG as an option sounds good.

Also since you have been told by DE that this is not a new idea, please don't start yet another thread on this.

Use the search tools and add your support to one of the already existing threads in the suggestion forum.

Well, I said in another thread on this same topic that my solution is /hide select "hide from searches". I do this right from lvl 1 upon first zoning into live game. If this is done with an already established character it takes a while to stop getting the emails, but they do eventually stop.

When the spammers are generating their list to spam they use the in game search to find people. It may not work for everyone, but it works 100% for me. I am still visible to friends, global channels, sg's etc... I have no problem not getting blind invites or tells. If I'm looking for a pick up group I join one that spams in broadcast that they're LFM.

With the new options of inviting, sending tells, or editing note right from clicking one's name in the chat window this has made /search obsolete. Would be nice to take that option from trial accounts as well as the email option, but we have to do what we can.

LOL wouldn't it be funny to /search one day and no one shows up but the server is full?!?!?!

That only works to hide the day(s) that they are skimming the /search menu to compose new character lists to send Email to.
It's like junk mail. Once they write your name down in thier address books, they continue to send it whether you're online or not.
Eventually, your character might drop off thier list as they compose new lists, but it takes awhile.

Great guide Memphis!

As well as knowing how to use the search feature, I think reading that certified me for C++ and work in the IT field.

:P

I agree with the OP. I have never recieved an email that was not spam.

I have recieved offline messages, which is how I suggest to everyone to contact me when not online.

Because I just *delete*delete*delete* the mail.

Honestly, don't even read them anymore.

I use to petition customer service too, and they refered me to the forums. It is incredibly frustrating to have the company that can fix problems and take action, refer you to these forums where no real fix or action takes place. Very poor customer service if you ask me.

One little thing you can do is delete emails from "empty" names, those accounts are already by by, and just spam button the emails that have a name. At least you slow down the rate of filling your ignore list.

Lastly, since customer service TELLS us to post here, let's ask AGAIN for an email filter so we can control who we receive emails from. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Ok, the forum moderators can now be helpful and lock this redunant post since it violates forum rules. That seems like great customer service help too doesn't it.

Yes, I've had characters stop getting RMTmail after I stop playing them for a while.

/hide (select hide from searches) does work to stop the emails. I never get emails. at all. Even sent a msg to Castle about this and he does the same thing. Just never ever come out of /hide. You can still be visible to friends, sg's, globals etc...

It takes a while for the emails to stop, (if you are already receiving emails daily) but they do stop. If you /hide right from lvl 1 you never get any emails.

(QR) The problem with the email function going to the spammers is that it's really bad for folks who were actually using it.

One of my SGmates accidentally ignored another of our friends recently. She was clearing out her mailbox, marked everything as spam...

We ran a TF that night. She couldn't figure out why one of the guys was so quiet. She kept asking him questions, and he didn't answer. Freaked her out.

Here's the great part. The rest of the team, including the guy she'd ignored, didn't realise what was going on. Because it looked like this:-

[Team] Tanker: Wow...how did you survive that?
[Team] Scrapper: Haha, luck.
[Team] Tanker: Seriously, how?
[Team] Scrapper: Literally, a lot of lucks.
[Team] Tanker: Did you use insps?
[Team] Scrapper: Yeah, ate a bunch of purps and hit my tier 9.

She only discovered the truth 24 hours later. The apology was hilarious - and for bonus comedy points, said scrapper player remembered everything she'd asked and repeated his answers without prompting.

But that, boys and girls, is why you can't send legitimate e-mail in this game anymore. =(

I am totally against this.

What is needed to send an email? An account that is considered a paying subscriber. What do accounts that are considered paying subscriber do when they can no longer send Emails? They send /tells... or make AE missions and 5star nuke the arcs... or start posting in the forums.

It is bad now, of course. The *BEST* option available to correct this problem is to separate the Email ignore list and the player ignore list. I have ignored so many spam emails I don't remember who is a [censored] [censored] and who gave me max debt because they are level 50 and is playing on a purchased/powerleveled character because the Spam ignorees (I made this word up) are kicking out the [censored] ignorees (again) from my ignore list to make room.

What I've been doing? NOT clicking SPAM on my email window. I just click DELETE because I can still keep the Nubs on ignore. SOME people are NOT going to correct their problems of assholism and need to stay on an ignore list.

What I suggest? A quick fix to the overfilling Ignore list. If they put an email block and the RMT catch onto it, they *WILL* move onto other tactics. Don't feel surprised if your Public Channels start to become filled with spam until everyone quits it. The Freedom Badges channel would be the 1st to be effected.

Just as a response to part of the post above, pressing the Spam reports the player to Customer Support, and if the Global is flagged enough times they will be banned.

Or at least I believe that is how the system works, but it's not like everyone isn't pressing spam on the same person anyways.

Posted

This is true. Sadly you must decide who belongs on your ignore list more, RMT or the kid who won't stop screaming for a team every 10 seconds in broadcast. I've personally gone with the 2nd one as the priority.

And that is part of the problem banning does not = deletion. After 72 hour or so the RMT's can jump back on and spam with the same account all over again....I'm not even sure that they are banned for 72 hours.

It is posting an exploit to explain why this is a ludicrous method of dealing with people profiteering off the game.
I'm not going to point fingers about which kind of players would be more likely to be able to throw around lots of money and, therefore, more likely to buy from these punks, but that should be rather obvious as well.

Regardless, this has become a real pain. Players are pretty much continuously posting that filters should be built into the e-mail system.

I have some ideas of how to deal with this situation as well, it is pointless to post them here so that the RMTs know how to get around methods that I would employ to deal with them. I think that RMT's would be more actively taking notes of what to avoid versus the DEVs picking up ideas for helping to put a stop to the RMT'ing at any rate at this point. It has been an ongoing issue for so long that they have had a plenty of time to do something about it if they really wanted to. it is not high on their priority list....that much is abundantly obvious.

Pretty sure if they are caught RMT spamming it's perma ban.
