All you DOOOOM sayers, listen up. (PvP Population)
welcome to pvp.
doom.
Please post in the i13 PvP feedback section (under Developers Corner). Ranting here will change nothing. Maybe the Devs will listen to a PvP newbie like yourself (by newbie I mean someone who enters Warburg solo and expects not to get ganked...and for there to be no trash talking).

Hey, why should I? It is not me who is crying all over the forums because PvP in this game has died. I could care less. It's your problem, not mine. I just figured I would be nice enough to show you *why* your precious PvP is dying.
But hey, by all means, keep doing what you are doing....I will just sit back and sip soda while you continue to chase off new players. /e shrugs.
So people should "let" you kill them sometimes and not attack back? I'm not sure why you felt when others were using their powers, it was ganking? They cant very well just let you tee-off on them bro.
You wanted to know some things about your build. I think you may have found them out, but not liked what you found?
Only a few variables here.....the build....or your skill/decision making while playing it. Also reflex time, compared to "having to think" about what your reactions to attacks were going to be need to be taken into account, to be fair. PvP speed is different than PvE speed. Damage spikes in PvP are like AV/EB dmg in PvE.
Lots to consider. While the "lrn2pvp" can get under your skin sometimes....kep in mind, thats the very reason its being said. Any advantage is a good one so long as its not an exploit. Try some different builds and definately team more. A decent PvP team can make a world of difference in how much fun you have. And lets face it.....fun is killing the other guy before he gets you.
I turned my widow into a fort and got owned alot. Not because the fort was not a viable pvp toon but because I needed to lrn2pvp with it. My reaction times were slow and often found myself thinking instead of reacting. That had a domino affect on my awareness while in the zone. I was caught off guard more easily and as a result dropped faster than usual. Often without even putting up a fight. Time and practice should fix this for me. I figure another 20 hours of messing in the zone and I should be quite omw to ganking with him.
I hope you give it more time and consider the variables before you turn away from PvP. There IS fun to be had for you. Not to mention, that combo just may not be "right" for "you". Try some of your other toons and see which you feel most confident on.
Best of luck either way. Hope to see you there.

We aren't "crying all over the forums because PvP in this game has died", we are QQ'ing because some the changes made in i13 to PvP were for people like you. People who will never like PvP in this game because they can't go into a pvp zone solo and perform like they do in solo PvE.
Multibuilds aren't really a PvP addition, but it will bring in new folks who didn't want to give up their PvE build.
Adding Rewards will bring in new people to PvP.
Adding objectives (other than killing) will bring in new people to PvP.
Dumbing it down for people like you was a bad idea in my opinion. Because in the end folks like you are going to get defeated, repeatedly. And instead of trying to learn how to get better, you get angry, and ultimately post about it on the forums.
Turn off your enemy chat and adapt...or stick to PvE.

No no, you misunderstand, or maybe I just was not clear enough. I was constantly singled out by others and ganged up on. Personally, I don't care, not that big of a deal. I am sure if the villains were nice enough to invite me to their teams, things would have went a different way. But hey, no biggie. I have been there and done that, most likely long before most of the PvPers these days have been. This is nothing new. I'm just saying, to somebody who would be stepping into a PvP zone for the first time, I am sure that would not be a very nice experience for them, and would most likely make them not want to ever come back. Even when I played my Stalker pre RV days, I did not continuously single out one player over and over, I mixed it up some. But that's just me.

I am fully aware of that and do understand where you are coming from. Irregardless of that, I conducted an experiment and was not at all surprised at what I found. This PvP mentality has been here since day one of the Arena days. Nothing has changed. My only point being, if PvP is on the verge of dying, then perhaps it is time to be a little warmer to anyone who is new. Not hard to do, all you have to do is stop with the, "LRN2PvP" mentality and stop ganging the same person over and over....especialy when you are just doing it to be doing it, I know that nobody was getting any rep off me.

I agree with you here as well. In fact, I am sure if I were to IO my Elec/Kin out, and spent more time in the PvP zones, I would most likely find myself owning a few myself. But, with the travel power suppression in PvP, my build is not what I originally intended it to be. Now /Kin travels are also suppressed, which half defeats my Sappers purpose.

We shall see.
All I am saying here, is that if a new player hits the zones...not saying, let him beat you, not even saying don;t gank him, but what I am saying, is try not ganking him over and over and over and over....to the point where it just ends up causing nothing but grief. That was one mistake I was careful never to do with my Stalker back in the day, and people appreciated me for it. I would often get tells thanking me for not repeatedly killing them just because they were there. I did not find it personally challenging to just repeatedly kill the same guy over and over until he left the zone.
Only way I would do that, is if they sent me a hate tell because I killed them once. Then I would make it a point to chase them out of the zone.

When you step into the ring, you are going to get punched.
Players who have a really hard time with this are not cut out to PVP, and no torrent of nerfs will change that.
Unless you have phenomenal natural talent, expect many beatings as you, well, lrn2PVP. Even a player who is only kinda-talented will still need to grasp and work with the game's specifics.
Defeated complainers have little credibility in PVP land, since they seem unwilling to slog up the road of pain that leads to respectable fighting ability, or to miss the harsh reality of the situation. So yes, your QQ made things worse. And as noted above, if chat PVP can get you spun up, your verbal adversary has gained game advantage by rattling you.

Then perhaps all that time I spent in PvP (Which was close to three years, I did not quit until IOs came out.) was for nothing. Because even when things were going the way they were, there were still people on these boards complaining that PvP was dead or dying. People were coming on these boards for the past three years, continuously putting forth ideas to the suggestion forums that would bring more people to the zones. And each time, the reason was the same, not enough people PvPing.
For me, IOs ruined PvP. That was the straw that broke the camels back for me. It changed the games mechanics in which I thought was fine to begin with. But that was just me, and that was my personal opinion of IOs in PvP.
Meh, what do I know...

I would tend to agree with you. Not only are many of the PvP'rs only out to "school the noobs", they are very insulting when you don't let them school you.
I can tell the difference between when I have a chance in a fight and when it's time to make a break for it. I really don't need to be insulted when I know if I stay I'm just going to fall in combat. It's annoying. I put a lot of PvP'rs on /gignore due to the ignorant taunting. They can go call names in the school yard if they want. I'm not playing a game to deal with bullies.
Unfortunately, that's all some PvP'r are; they are just bullies and that's it. I'm not saying that's all of them, but I have run into some of them that are.
To me, the complaints about DR, etc. pretty much come down to, we aren't uber powerful any more; aka they aren't 100% guaranteed that they will be able to school a noob.
Yes. No one wants to loose all the time. If you are fighting an uphill battle that you know you can't win without having maxed out IO sets, the hill is a pretty mighty one to climb for a new PvPr.
So yeah, lighten up in the PvP zones until they get more populated and then have some good fights. Camping on the doorstep, et al. ganker-esque tactics should be not be used. There is plenty of room in zones to PvP. Play the zone and don't abuse it.
We all might find that there is more going on in PvP zones and that they start becoming a lot more fun.
EDIT ::
I read some of the garbage replies on this thread.
What you don't understand is "the point".
It has nothing to do with "letting someone else win".
It is about an enjoyable experience for everyone.
When you can easily defeat someone, leave them alone unless they attack you. The only point in defeating them repeatedly is bullying.
If name calling, etc. is okay in PvP, then, yeah, screw PvP. That will turn people off immediately. It isn't about having a thin skin, it's a matter of you are trying to do something that you are new at and you are being verbally abused. That's not cool. You are not cool for doing it. You are being a jerk for doing it. And, as I said, you're just going to get /gignored by me, so what good is it doing you as a PvP'r to be /gingored?
If you can't understand why what was posted was posted by the OP, then I sort of feel sorry for you....the part of me that doesn't just want to /gignore you and make you a non-entity (aka pretty much "killing you" in this PvP arena in my world view.)
They should just turn off enemy chat in all pvp zones.

That is the smartest thing I have seen a PvP person say on these forums. It is 100% true, and why I dont go in the zones much at all. If I dont want to deal with punk jackasses I dont go where they are. Simple as that.
I know what you are getting at.
Took a friend into WB to show them how to launch a missle.
Checked the zone and it was just us. (Could have been a hidden or two lurking)
Anyway, showed them the way to the tunnels and down to a scientist. On the way back up bumped into a Veat Soldier (pretty sure he only saw me), checked zone population again, paused to see what they would do, ran past me and down the ramp, no prob I thought.
Showed friend to the way point, went back to the scientists. In that time he'd called in friends, a corrupter, a brute, himself (soldier) and a Dom. Now I didn't expect to win this gank fight, but gave my friend enough time to get away.
Went to the Hospital and rechecked zone pop. sure enough they were all there. Went back to my friend and they were fighting the corrupter. Then I saw my friend's toon running slow motion sideways on the one spot, it wasn't a mez they'd got dc'd map served.
So I took up the fight, it was a good fight with them. I won and then the Soldier showed up and fought me toe to toe after a stealth strike on me, but he was losing, suddenly they started kiting (no porb with that valid defence to a scrapper) then the brute showed up with the Dom. and the soilder rejoined the gank. Then all but the corrupter (the one that fight me to the last) ganked the dc'd toon. The corrupter even said "I think they've dc'd" yeah there is a challenge.
Now I know its a PvP zone, no issue with that. The soldier attempted a taunt for the code piece that they'd got off my friend, I laughed at him, told him that he couldn't win and needed his friends to gank me. His response? "I'll fight you anywhere 1 vs 1 but not here."????
Needless to say I wished them happy ganking and left, no point staying. I sent a tell to the corrupter complimenting him on having the balls to stay and fight, not running and waiting till backup arrived.
So to all the "Lrn2pvp"/gankers. You aren't helping the pvp cause.
There is no skill in getting 3+ toons and pounding 1 toon into the ground again and again.
There is no chance for said toon to "Lrn2pvp" in that situation and you'll find yourselves in a empty zone.
So don't complain when pvp "dies" cause you reaped what you sowed.
Cat: "Better to live 5 secs as a tiger then a lifetime as a worm"
Rimmer: "Arrh but who ever heard of a worm skin rug"
"Anyway I attack Nemesis" - Blue Crow
"What alone?" - Toon
"No No, I had my katana with me."
Fav. Book: The Atheist belief system
The OP cracks me up.

As a long time pvp'er, you entered the zone with a gimped toon and broadcast your whining after being killed. I'm at least glad that you weren't surprised when people told you to learn to plan and continued to kill you.
In my experience, if you don't whine and cry after a death, players are far less likely to "talk trash" to you when they kill you.
If you broadcast a whine, you're initing a response from others in the zone, and that response is not likely to be positive or filled with constructive criticism about what you can do better.
Maybe your lessen should be for new players rather than vets, and should say "Don't whine or cry after you get killed in a pvp zone, as that's just giving ammo to the donkeyholes. Expect to take your lumps. Just get up again and rejoin the fight. After all, you don't lose anything when you get killed."

So, you were solo, on a low-level, poorly equipped (for pvp) toon, and you were defeated by teams of enemies. Again, at least you weren't surprised by the results.
Did you ask to join a team? Did you try inviting others to team with you?
There are lots of tips that can be given to new players to help make their pvp experience more enjoyable. One of them is "don't expect much success if you are solo and fighting against teams of opponents. A team will likely be able to kill you repeatedly without you being able to do much."
[ QUOTE ]

While IO's didn't ruin pvp for me, they did mean the end of me being able to compete with some folks, and that did pretty much suck. The fact that I could pvp 24/7 for the next year, and still find myself below a pve farmer on the totem pole is pretty lame.
Anyway, I DO agree with FACT that behavior in the pvp zones turns away many folks from pvp. The behavior combined with the balance issues creates many problems. Most players don't want to take repeated dirt-naps (suddenly their characters that are invulnerable in pve can be killed in a matter of seconds) and at the same time have their family insulted.
However, the arena doesn't typically suffer from the same behavioral problems, but is still dead.
The reasoning behind the "death of pvp" is more balance/reward related than it is as result of bad behavior.

[ QUOTE ]
Due to all the complaining I see on the boards about how PvP in this game is dying, I can tell ya one thing....you guys are not going to help populate PvP.
[/ QUOTE ]
At this point, it doesn't matter; this perception is already dominant. The excuse that someone treated you poorly in PvP is old as it is cliché, and none of us can overcome it. If players really wanted to PvP, and this was the major issue obstructing them, they could simply turn off broadcast and local channels in an individual tab, and proceed just fine.
We all know full well that there is trash talk going on in zones, but if we understand the nature of the internet and don't take some personal responsibility in using the tools provided to silence noise we wish not to hear, I don't sympathize. Ive long voiced the above suggestion to players who were interested in PvP-- not only did they consider this, but they jumped at the idea and have gone on to enjoy PvP more regularly
but the difference is, they honestly wanted to PvP, and not so much blame others for their own inaction.
Until the devs take a more firm stance on communication between factions, this problem will persist, and not to the fault of any group of players you would like to point a finger towards. As I stated before in another thread, I dont expect anyone on this forum to take responsibility for the random individual in a PUG mouthing off, just as no player should expect us on this forum to be responsible for any individual(s) in a zone doing the same.
[ QUOTE ]
Was constantly ganked over and over. Any chance of seeing if my build was any good or not, was pretty much a nill.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not enough detail here. You entered a FFA zone and you were defeated, as you expected you would be. A 'chance' is relative to each individual player, so its next to impossible to expect any of 'us' or 'them' [the players you encountered], to understand what a 'chance' would mean, for you
and even if you explained it here on the forums, there is next to no way to get anyone playing in a zone to understand what a chance would be, or that theyd even realistically allow it. In its simplest form, a chance is the increased likelihood of defeating another player, and thats counter to the purpose of why most players participate in zones. Again, there is little to really discourage here; so long as any player feels entitled to some vague chance, it becomes any persons guess as to how they will receive a challenge and/or loss.
As it relates to your experiment; if its honestly your intention to determine if your build was good or not, then in a FFA zone, you got your answer-- it failed. If that wasnt an ideal situation for learning anything, you couldve just as well asked any number of players to join you in the arena and get some controlled tests running. You chose not to, and instead chose to blame others...this cant be fixed by other players catering to you or anyone else who feels the same. Youll simply have to humble yourself, and employ more creative methods for learning the ropes
like every other PvPer did in their time.

I attempted to act as though I was slightly bothered by it, because I wanted to see how they would react. Well, I must tell ya, taunting and "LRN2PvP" was yet another indicating factor to me that shows why so few care to enter the zones.
[/ QUOTE ]
How did you act, specifically? If you were acting bothered over broadcast, then you were only perpetuating the same issue that you came to bear the burden of. Showing frustration over broadcast, especially when directed at others, fuels the fire
and Im pretty sure you understood this, seeing as how you specifically chose to test your theory by acting bothered, rather than acting curious and asking questions or something along the lines which represented more positive behavior.
[ QUOTE ]
I also noticed the people who are normally there, were virtually left alone. That to me is not how you get others interested in PvP.
[/ QUOTE ]
How is a new player going to distinguish between players who are normally there being left alone, or anyone else getting killed? Youre placing perspective on interactions that new players are typically oblivious to, unless they were exposed to those happenings, beforehand.
a few QRs:
- The devs told the wrong segment to learn to adapt
- anyone in a PvP zone is a target
- i13 PvP deserves to die
- the larger segment for whom these changes were made for should be beaten repeatedly
- as for trash talking- don't read it. Personally 90%+ pf the time I am in a zone i neither read nor type anything as it is a waste of time and a distraction. maybe when I leave I say "GG" or "Thanks for the fights" otherwise run silent..
- *pulls out dead horse beating stick* catering to n00bs by dumbing down PvP was and is a mistake. The vast majority of this game's population does not PvP because they like to be all super and special without anyone beating them.

Just from reading this I can tell that the OP and Whiteseeker get butt hurt easy in PvP zones.
Oh noes, someone called you nasty names on the INTERNET. Turn off chat or close your window.

Agreed. "LRN2PVP" is fun, when used against somebody who has been there for awhile, but like I said, I pretended to be a complete n00b to PvP, just to see how I was treated....and I must say, my findings were exactly as I expected them to be. If I were to be completely new, and try it out for the first time, I would not have stuck around for half as long as I did, and I would not be returning.

Ok, took a new build to WB on Freedom today to test a few things. I wanted to see how new PvPers that nobody knows is treated in PvP and wanted to also see how a build would work out.
Due to all the complaining I see on the boards about how PvP in this game is dying, I can tell ya one thing....you guys are not going to help populate PvP.
My findings....
Took a Elec/Kin into a PvP zone to test out the build. I am not IOed out, only level 37, and speced with SOs only, so I knew I was not going to pwn very many people, if anyone at all... So no big deal.
Was constantly ganked over and over. Any chance of seeing if my build was any good or not, was pretty much a nill.
Now don't get me wrong, I could actually care less, as I feel personally that PvP in this game has been busted ever since RV was released, and has continuously gotten worse since then, so I don't PvP much anymore anyhow. But when I actually had an interest in trying it out again, I get continuously ganked.
Now, I have a point to make here, and here it goes......Stop complaining on the boards because PvP is dead, or dying or anything else. Because if the way I was treated in PvP is any indication to how others are treated, then I must say, you have only done it to yourselves.
I attempted to act as though I was slightly bothered by it, because I wanted to see how they would react. Well, I must tell ya, taunting and "LRN2PvP" was yet another indicating factor to me that shows why so few care to enter the zones.
I am an old has been of PvP, started PvPing when Arena came out, and was hard core until RV came out. Once IOs came out, that was enough for me.
I just wanted to point out my findings, from a new players perspective. That is honestly not the way to pull in more people to PvP.
Anyway, hope this reaches certain people and opens the minds of others. I see too much "DOOOOOM!" sayers to PvP because of the lack of PvP population. If people are really that concerned with the population of PvP, then perhaps you should try not ganking on the new guys so much, and give them a bit of breathing room. I also noticed the people who are normally there, were virtually left alone. That to me is not how you get others interested in PvP.
Personally, I don't care. I thought about getting back into it for about ten minutes, after seeing how I was dealt with, I honestly care not to get back into it again. In short, chill out on the new guys.
