Heya Ex,
Alas, I've been less active in COX lately and just heard your news.
I appreciate everything you did for us. Despite the unfortunate outcome (not your doing) you fought the good fight for the PVP community, and in general added good sense to the proceedings wherever you went. The ol' town won't be the same without you.
All the best of prosperity and enjoyment in yor travels.

I have a related issue. I set my destkop resolution to 1680 x 1050, but when I try to select that setting in the Graphics tab of the game, it will pop back to 1024x768 when I hit Apply Now.
Any thoughts? I can play, but my world is short and squat. -

When you step into the ring, you are going to get punched.
Players who have a really hard time with this are not cut out to PVP, and no torrent of nerfs will change that.
Unless you have phenomenal natural talent, expect many beatings as you, well, lrn2PVP. Even a player who is only kinda-talented will still need to grasp and work with the game's specifics.
Defeated complainers have little credibility in PVP land, since they seem unwilling to slog up the road of pain that leads to respectable fighting ability, or to miss the harsh reality of the situation. So yes, your QQ made things worse. And as noted above, if chat PVP can get you spun up, your verbal adversary has gained game advantage by rattling you. -

Do a rewrite.

The guide was a labor of love.
Let those who feel loved by i13 put forth their labor. -
Issue 13 brings sweeping PVP powers changes, and a few changes not related to powers:
-- selectable arena maps
-- total disabling of base raids
-- (tiny) PVP rewards in both zone and arena - influence and inspirations
-- 2 new day job badges earned in PVP areas - Predator and Duelist
As of i13, the following info in this guide is obsolete:
Almost all material related to powers
Nicci and NotPutzing guides
Most links - some of the linked sites have been updated
Tactical Summaries in 3.*.1 Summary Info sections
Section 4.1.3, The Arena Scene
Note also that battles against RV AVs and Signature Heroes will be fought with PVP versions of powers, not PVE versions.
Most of the rest of the guide is still accurate as far as it goes. -

I'd recommend doing a compiled HTML save of this thread, re-doing the main list (sans votes, fixed stuff) , and posting that.
[/ QUOTE ]
A save would be good, but let's use the unaddressed items from the old list as a starting point to work out a new one. The ideal time to start this would be after early open beta testing gives a more complete picture of i13.
I'm sure people will have feedback on the sweeping power changes Castle mentioned *cough*. There's also hope that PVP will somehow figure into the merit system, bringing progress on the rewards item.
And zone refinements.. Pocket D is a zone, right? And the Arenas are in zones too, right? So selectable Arena maps would qualify... right? -
Not enough has been done to make an update worthwhile, IMO.
-
A few minor updates.
Section 2.5.4 Door Mission Results
This has been partially resolved. You can now see current status of zone buffs and debuffs for your own faction only in your buff line. Zone buffs and debuffs for the other faction remain unknown unless you are in the zone when a mission affecting them completes and see the announcement of the new value.
Section 4.1.4.1 Arena Weight Classes
(just in time for your Around the World tourney planning! See the Player Events board.)
Bantamweight is missing and Featherweight is incorrect. The correct full table should read:
Weight class name, level range
*******************************
Strawweight, 1-5
Flyweight, 6-11
Bantamweight, 12-13
Featherweight, 14-21
Lightweight, 22-26
Welterweight, 27-31
Middleweight, 32-37
Cruiserweight, 38-40
Heavyweight, 41-46
Super Heavyweight, 47-50
Section 7.3 Accolades
The Portable Workbench power from the Field Crafter accolade can no longer be used in PVP zones.
Finally, due to processes discretion forbids that I mention *cough* the Derek Robinson quote formerly in my signature was mangled. Here it is again, from his classic WW II aviation novel [u]Piece of Cake[u]:
"Up there the world is divided into b_______ and suckers. Make your choice." -
If done right, this feature will be a lot of fun, and really boost the game.
[ QUOTE ]
Will this Mission Creator allow PvP in the missions? I would love to be able to create a mission where my friends could to try to thwart me ala safeguard missions but with PvP.
[/ QUOTE ]
Me too. This is a key question and I'm sure hoping to see an answer. -
General "PVP sucks" flames are inappropriate for this thread.
-
Castle, thanks for posting, and most especially for getting some dialogue going on these issues. The PVP community has been hungry for it.
[ QUOTE ]
One thing we've talked about doing on and off again since before COV launch was to enable "secondary builds" of a character for PVP. Essentially, you would have a second power list, with separate slotting, which you would use for PVP encounters.
[/ QUOTE ]
If it didn't cause PVE balance trouble, two (or more!) builds toggleable at will would answer just as nicely, and give players more mileage for the dev effort, as both PVP-only and PVE-only players would use the feature for two builds for their chosen play style. The feature could be a nice cash sink for the economy as well.

A lot of things are outside the scope of issue 12, and venture into the realms of future stuff I can not talk about [...]

Perhaps the most heartening aspect of your post is the large range of items that are either planned or at least possible, as you neither disclose what's up with them nor rule them out.
Oh yeah and please roll back the Acro nerf, KB is far superior to other mezzes when effective and IMO this nerf brings waay more trouble than improvement. -

More senior heads than me (Ry? Stasis? Manchu?) might recall the last post from a coding dev to a PVP forum. I've seen no such post since I started PVPing in late 2006. (Plenty of support from Ex, who does not code.) But hey, i12 already contains a groundbreaking PVP-specific feature, so maybe the time is ripe.
Note the total lack of "I PVP a lot and things are fine" posts. Pretty much anyone with a strong interest in PVP over time (whether in gameplay, growing the community or both) is deeply dissatisfied with what's been done to date, both for new features and cleaning up existing features. The current wishlist is only the latest in a long line of community wishlists over the years that have come and gone with little result. (It's true the Arena crash bug was fixed some 18 months after it was first reported.)
As to the wishlist's relationship to current development, much of it is bug fixes, tweaks or small QOL changes, not major feature initiatives. If any sort of bone is thrown to PVP for i12 you might see less bitterness from the PVP vets.
Of course, many feel we will in fact get quite a bit of bone. -

I was really pleased to see the detailed coverage of the JAL-Velocity Arena title match. Thanks Neuronia.

PvP Zone Suggestions
[...]
[*] Improve buff/debuff mission info. Currently mission holders dont see the percentage of the buff/debuff, only people outside in the zone do.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is partially addressed with the new powers info. You can see a percentage for buffs and debuffs that affect your own side all the time while outside in the zone, so at least you have a better chance to pull a mission that will have an effect if you want to. (Previously the only clue to the level of buff/debuff was the text announcement on mission completion, which those inside such mission do not see.)
It'd still be nice to see percentages for everything, but this is much better.
Need I add, I support the community list as compiled and edited by Putz. TY all who participated. -
Strongly opposed to this change. TF Commander for PVP is too time consuming at present, this makes it worse, and I don't see the move solving RMT problems in any way.
While we're on the subject, an improvement to the quality of the TF drop pool would be welcome as well. -
Putz0rz, are you planning another editing pass on this?
Ex said she'd like to see some format changes, and from her remarks I think we need to clarify that the long, thorough list was intended to allow the Devs to cherry pick the easy ones, the high cost-benefit ones, or ones they were thinking of doing anyway for other reasons.
Also, judging from discussion I had in PM from a dev, toggleable builds should be moved to the Big Ticket Items section.
I'm happy to help, or to do some edits myself if you find yourself too busy. Let us know. -

SuperSpeed+Teleport on my Spines/Ninja stalker in RV. Teleport is essential for survival

I don't have it on my Stalker and don't miss it. Phase + temp phase does the job for me. Can you kite an airborne target with a melee attack using TP, without falling past them?
[ QUOTE ]
I use the Temp Jump and Flight packs for verticle movement.

Next version I'll point out specifically how good the Siren's travel powers are for novice PVPers coming up. This is one of the many things I enjoy about Siren's; these powers give people a chance to try out a new PVP-based travel power without respeccing. I used the jumpy temp power a lot myself back in the day, when my Empath still had the Teleport pool. -
Sniktch, congratulations. My guide is 16 months old, and yours is the first post to any of the guide or guide-promoting threads with the timeless "Ayyy, PVPers are sure a bunch of toolbags" sentiment.
[ QUOTE ]
you mention nothing about the level of jerk-play you are likely to run into in PvP
[/ QUOTE ]
Because the matter is subjective. One player's griefing is another player's smooth tactic. For example, some people feel that attacking a player who is dueling in the zone is rude; others feel that expecting others to stay their hands and forego PVP rewards while you complete your duel is itself rude.
I strove to reduce statements of my opinion to a minimum. I discuss some commonly condemned tactics (eg TP Foe to a drone) but let people draw their own conclusions about whether this is cool to do, or not.

Interesting that you have this as one of the earliest lines in this -

Zone PVP is a wargame. It is kill or be killed with (almost) no holds barred. If you want a level playing field, I recommend Arena combat. Achievements in the zone are written in the blood of one's enemies and I wouldn't have it any other way.
I recognize this is not to everyone's taste; but when in the zones, cultivation of a highly competitive, warlike attitude hugely boosts enjoyment and success, not least for those new to PVP. I find it most satisfying when a novice zone PVPer or gimp build player turns to bite the hand of the would-be ganktard and take them down. But the noob is unlikely to rise to such victory without adopting a warrior's stance. -
