Details About Mac Version & Perks

If I own the PC version, and would like the mac version (but don't care about the time or items), am I able to simply download it from the FTP site where the mac updater is hosted?

Would this run the same as normal since I already own an account and the game? Or do I have to go purchase the mac version as well as my pc version.

For all of you folks wishing to grab the special in-game items that come with the Mac Special Edition

[/ QUOTE ]

you mean pc users?..im confused..if im not on a mac then wouldnt i be a pc user?

if i buy this for my pc it will work?..and my paid time is up on the 21st..will this go into effect the 21st for the free month?

your words arent clear for me...can i use this or not on a pc for accounts already working or am i buying a new account?

[/ QUOTE ]

It works on the PC now and it saves $5 over the cost of waiting the 2 months since it comes with a free month of game time. When you purchase the serial code it gives you the option of applying it to your existing account or to create a new account.

[/ QUOTE ]

Wait wait wait....

I thought it was only supposed to be good for the Mac for the next couple months (hence the use of the word "exclusivity" in the announcement)?

So... a clarification is in order I think.

** Can this 19.95 be used for an existing PC account NOW?
** Does this 19.95 payment include the free month for an existing PC account?

** Or, is this going to be a code that can only be applied to an existing account on a MAC?

....Color me confused, I will buy it no matter what, but I don't want to get stuck with a mac code I can't use on my pc, and I also don't want to help piss off Mac users if I am getting something in advance of what I ought to be if it's a bug in their billing process.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes you can get it for the PC now. Yes it includes the free month of play.

The game client is the same so there is no need to download from the FTP. The updater has been replaced with a version that will read whether your account is operating from a MAC or PC and will adjust for that.

There is no difference to the game, the MAC Version is set to support your system if you are operating from a MAC.

In your case you wouldn't want to create a new account you would simply want to upgrade your current account to have both authorized bits, this would allow you to also take advantage of the perks of game time, mission teleporter and costume sets.

The reason we are sharing this information with our users is we don't want people to uninstall their game client to only have to reinstall the same client. Also we don't want folks to lose any Veteran Rewards by taking advantage of both operating systems.

Let me know if you have additional questions.

I am on a Mac, I play in Windows, I want to play in Mac OS:

Can I download it from somewhere? Obviously i need a new download as the windows installer doesn't run so good in Mac OS

Hm. Cool costume set and neat power that can occasionally shorten one of the more annoying time sinks of finding the mish door when it's hidden underground in Bricks or wherever. I might pay $10 for that.

But for $20 I can get it right now. That's a $10 value + a month of time, which would be $15 that I'm paying anyways. So $25 of stuff for $20. Good deal.

Well played, NCSoft.

Jay, if you happen to read this, I ... I ... I LOVE YOU, MAN!

The Valkyrie set is absolutely your best work to date, and that's saying a lot considering your CoH portfolio. If the stuff in the magic booster are half as gorgeous as this, I may just have to carve your name into my forearm with a rusty spork

2 hour recharge timer on the Mission Porter...sigh

If I were a costume junkie, you would have my money, but considering I'm not I was going to buy it until i seen the timer was set to 2 hours.

No thanks. But nice costumes for those who like costumes.

Yes I understood correctly, what I am saying is it is not necessary to download the client, the updater will recognize whether your MAC bit is enabled and support automatically.

Purchase the product, apply to already created account and voila, no download necessary.

The download of the client is only necessary for new users, even folks that joined our Open Mac Beta have a work around so they don't need to download the client.

Purchase of the MAC Version is necessary if you want to run on a MAC OS but the download is obsolete if you already have the client installed.

The bonus goodies all by themselves are $9.99, but the exclusive Mac version is just $19.99, meaning that's a month of gameplay for $10.00. Well heck, that's a bargain in and of itself!

I hope the Mac users aren't getting sore about it.

Really?!

All the talk during beta was that that if you have a game account, you have access to the PC and the Mac clients *without* buying the new Mac Edition.

Is that now different?

If I don't buy the Mac Edition and get a Mac Computer for MLKjr Day (it could happen), will I be able to download the Mac Client onto the Mac and play, or will I have to first buy the Mac Edition in order to enable the client to play on the Mac?

I'll confirm tomorrow but I believe there is an Authentication process involved on the updater.

Exactly my reaction.

Just a slight hope left : is the mission teleporter affected by global recharge ? I think it's not, but I could be interested if it is

You can get the Game Client from ftp://client.coh.com/US/MAC_CoH_Installer_US.dmg or you can download it from your account. Yes, the Mac client works. From all accounts, once you've installed it it doesn't matter if you haven't bought the pack -- you can play City of Heroes on your shiny Macintosh.

If you do buy the pack, you get the Valkyrie set and the mission teleporter, whether you are playing on a PC or a Mac.

To sum up: anyone with an active account can play the game, either from an Intel Mac or a PC, at no extra charge, as of now. Anyone, Mac or PC, can buy the Mac Special Edition and get a month of time and the special gubbins, as of right now.

Okay?

I'm surprised it isn't one hour like similar vet/booster powers, but hey...it still comes in handy whenever it is up.

That answer was disappointingly hard to get. I got e-mail notification that my pre-order was mine now and the Mac version was live. I activated my account to take effect of the extras. Then I went to find the link to -get- my account. After 45 minutes of searching, I finally was able to find this link. This -really- should be fixed. It was a bad start to a Mac CoH.

The screenshots did not do the Valkyrie costume set justice. It's even more awesome in all its 3D glory. You outdid yourself, Jay.

It's a bummer that the mission teleporter is on a two hour recharge, but I didn't think it would be an every mission thing. It's still great for those times a contact sends you across three zones to something not connected to the o-zone or Pocket D, or when you draw a mission in those maxes in Brickstown.

If true, this is a HUGE step back from what we were told. And rather disappointing.

I don't think you'll be lacking for people who will buy the pack, it's clearly a better bargain than buying just the add-ons, and they're cool add-ons. But does this mean that if someone buys the Mac client, they can't use the PC client?

I hope this is not true. I suspect, if it is, it's how transgaming will get paid for their work (which they've done a good job for), but highly disappointing.

I'd just like to be reassured that there are female versions of the costume items, and that they look good. Considering that a valkyrie is traditionally female, it's odd that the pictures have focused almost entirely on male characters.

But the mission teleporter is tempting, even with the two hour recharge.

[/ QUOTE ] Yup... The Female outfit is as good as the male.... very similar

I just bought it for my PC, my PC works fine. Got the items, etc. No issue with the current client accepting the upgrade code.

I don't know if a NEW client on a PC would be correct. But if you've got a new customer on a PC they should just buy the gve and upgrade later.
