Issue 13 Update

Many thanks for the update, Positron. Even if it isn't the news we were hoping for, it's nice to feel we're being kept in the loop.

So long as the mission architect system is done right, the wait should be well worth it (at least to me =P). Hopefully they're using this time to get us some customization for bosses and factions in appearance and/or powers. That's the "maybe" that I want far more than anything else.

The latest news on Issue 13 is that they have no new news on Issue 13.

Take your time, Posi. (So when's beta?) If the mission creator's going to live up to what we know so far... yeah, keep hammering away at it.

My guess, they are ... "re-prioritizing" what other features are going into I13. Not too many to overshadow the MA but enough to keep the other people happy.

Either that or they put Silver Mantis in charge of Marketing to "speed up" the announcements and um.. they need to do a new round of hiring.. fast !

Ok, we know.

We should have had said something more by now, about Issue 13. But… like all great architectural endeavors, Issue 13 is taking on a life of its own and we’re not quite ready to spill forth all the information.

So, just a quick note to say thanks for your patience, even though we know you may not really be patient. Trust us, it’s coming; we’re working on it – and there’s more great stuff coming (like you haven’t heard that before, but really, we mean it!)

Thanks!

As far as i13 is concerned, take all the time you need. Quality over quantity if you ask me. Sure people clamor for wanting it 'nao' but honestly most of those folks IMHO will be the first to complain about glitches with a premature release.

So Posi says it's coming and that's good enough for me.

....and enough double entendre in those last two sentences to make me stop posting anything for the next few minutes.

This must mean that through the mission creator, they have found a way to finally include back details for costumes, full power customization, blue layer cake caves for bases and dual dueling pistol-fu for scrappers.

And I must say Positron, it's about time. My gaming experience has suffered severely due to lack of these features!

In all seriousness, g'luck team with the i13 pre-beta crunch. See you on the other side!

The cynic in me reads it as "We are so far from being finished we can't think of enough tidbits or mini-reveals to fill the space between our shiney initial anouncement and the actual delivery date. However, billing records and the sound of breathing tells us that there are people out there and we ought to say at least something..."

Honestly, BABs and Castle chating about making a new shield animation or some minor tweak to this or that power does a far better job of saying to the community, 'We are alive and continuing to work'. Which is all this post amounted to.

Dear Positron,

Good afternoon. Thank you for responding to our questions for more information about Issue 13.

And on a side note. Please fix the store so that I can purchase Booster Packs for other players as gifts. I'd like to purchase 10 or so of these for my friends that also play. Plus I'd like to give you my money to help with the development of my favorite game. However, since I only have 1 account and I can't very well purchase 10 Cyborg Packs for 1 account then I guess that I'll have to keep the money that I would have liked to have given to your company.

P.S. Rocket Pack costume items please.

Thank You.

This is a roundabout way of saying "The mission creator is a nightmare of bugginess, it'll be done when it's done", isn't it?

Why do I have the feeling that is the real reason?

Seems a bit odd that 3+ weeks after the announcement marketing can't come up with *anything* to show off about Issue 13. No screenshots, no details on any of the already-announced content, nothing at all.

[/ QUOTE ]

Lighthouse commented on this the other day in one of the forums. (It was within this week I believe, check the Community digest forum.) He said they hadn't made any further announcements because of some "changes" and that more info would be forth coming soon.(TM)

That doesn't tell us a whole lot, but makes me think that they hit some snafus, decided to add some things or wanted to change the way they were doing anything and ended up with delays and then didn't want to say anything further in case things didn't go as planned etc.

That is all pure speculation on my part, but I am betting we get more I13 news before long.

My guess is it's engineering, not marketing. Don't forget they were going to look at bases too. My guess is some coder opened up the base building code, there was this high, piercing scream and they later found him huddled on the floor, repeating only the words "... the horror... the horror..."

Anyway, I'm kinda disappointed too but we've got some cyborgs to play with and stuff, that'll keep people entertained for a bit. I think they should "test" Zombie Apocalypse again on the test server, myself.

But over all yeah I hope this just means better things in the long run.

hmmmmmmm.

Something odd is going on. Unlucky Issue number 13? We'll find out in two years time in a Positron anecdote that during September 2008 Jay accidentally deleted the entire Issue 13 build and so the Devs had to re-create the entire updated code in just 3 weeks, after it had originally taken 4 months to write.

Something like that. Tech problem or internal shake-up.

Remember Posi's one big rule is you never announce something if you aren't sure it's going to happen...

It's nice that someone from the dev team has finally given us some kind of update about the new issue .

I'm so over the hype of this new issue that you may take as long as you like to finish it.

Ok... so I'm not the only one.

Too much Sarah Connor Chronicles?

And Posi, throw the masses a bone. If for no other reason than for us to beat each other over the head with it...

What's that? you're saying this message isn't actually keeping us in the loop, but is in fact a pre-emptive plea for forgiveness thats going spark speculation and doubt?

20 minutes ago some normal, reasonable human being down in the marketing department developed the most splitting headache of his or her adult life, and still hasn't found the cause. But they will, as soon as they browse the company boards. In fact, I can almost envision Ex Libris rubbing her temples now.

Dear Peregrine Falcon,

Thank you for your feedback. We would LOVE to come up with a way for players to "gift" our Super Boosters to other players. The real problem with this lies in credit card fraud. It may seem like a simple problem, but it's really very complex. Once we have a workable solution that Billing and Customer Service can sign off on, we will allow players to gift Microtransactions post haste.

Yes, yes, Rocket Packs are on Sexy Jay's todo list, I just am not exactly clear on when they will be done.

Hope this clears things up for you a little bit.

There are a few of us that just want to PLAY the game and not neccessarily make missions. With all the fanfare we keep hearing about the Mission Creator, I do hope there is something in there for us then just Shields, PD and a few more Cimerora missions.
