Means it won't get purged from the boards when they run maintenance. If threads are inactive for x days/weeks/months/ the get deleted. Maked to save keeps them no matter what.

It may just be that I deal with Remote Control programs all day at work, but I am not that impressed. You can do the same thing with any Windows Mobile based device, or even VNC from a Linux box. Probably a client for Palm too, VNC is very portable over platforms.

I'm not very impressed with you being unimpressed. It's not very impressive that you work with Remote programs all day either. But that could just be because I sit on the forums all day long at work and see many worthless post that never needed to be made.

I'd have to agree the tone of his post left a lot to be desired, but he's making a reasonable point that this isn't inherently some magic iPhone goodness. This can be done with any device that can run VNC (which is a ton) that has decent resolution and connectivity. That said, *I* still think it's pretty nifty.

[/ QUOTE ]
I know. But as you said the snobby tone left much to be desired.

It is a nifty idea..so nifty in fact it may overpower my lazy'ness and make me attempt it.

Very cool.

About to upgrade from the "old" iPhone (speaker died) to the new one today. Guess which app I'll be installing first?

Well, I've been messing around with this, and was able to get it to work reasonably well.

A couple of notes from my experience.

I'm running Vista with dual monitors. The only way I could get it to consistently work was to run in Windowed mode. I didn't play around with it too long, but even with the setting turned way down, it would show me the opening loading screen from COX, but clicking on the input box would turn the screen black, hitting refresh wouldn't help any.

And as a side note, I'm fairly sure that you need the full version if you want to right-click anything.

Other than that, works as advertised, I was able to send tells, check the market etc.

Very cool. Thanks for posting the tip!

I have a pretty good idea how he's doing it too. I do much the same onto my Sun SPARCStation (a machine not even running an intel based CPU).

Agreed.

Not everyone here is a techie or knows about this stuff. I know I sure as hell didn't.

To the OP: Linked it to the Repeat Offenders forums. Very cool.

The server and character selection backgrounds look like they're in the Ouroboros zone instead of the original backgrounds. How was that customized?

There is a program designed by a COH user to do this. I can't find it currently, but I know someone around here probably can.

You can change the load in screen, character selection screen, etc. Believe people even changed their music.

[/ QUOTE ]I saw a coworker with that on his iPhone the other day. It's cool, but I would only use it for about 10 minutes, ever.

Edit: It's also a bit buggy... you kinda have to flick it to get any response... =/

[edit] Deleting this statement as it was made after a couple more drinks than I should have had. The short, and nicer response is that you read my post wrong. No tone or insult was intended to the OP.

I must thank the OP from bringing this to my attention. Prior to his guide, I had no idea such a thing was possible.

While I do not own an Iphone, I do own a PSP. I'm happy to say that for PSP owners, it will work as well. Just search for the equivalent VNC software.

I never thought of using this software before either. I should check it out on my Dell Axim, which actually runs Quake 3 by itself fairly well, as for WolfET, im still waiting for someone to make it pocket pc compatible.

Thanks for the insight

I'd like to try this, but I don't have an iPhone, I have a HTC TyTN. It's a Windows Mobile 5 device with a 240x320 display.

What's the display resolution on an iPhone? Will this work similarly to an iPhone on my device, or will resizing cause too much distortion?

Wow, I didn't know that was made into a Program! The last I saw of the Splasher, you still had to do it manually.

Just downloaded it and put in the Shadowshard stuff as my defaults. So beautiful.

I've always wanted a downloadable program for my PlayStation Portable that would let me make costumes, plan builds, check real numbers, etc. (LIEZ... I really want a Diablo top down CoX... I hate using someone else's heroes in JL Heroes and X-Men/Marvel Alliance games, but I"ll live with the above).

Nifty trick. I don't think I'd even attempt iphone-ish MMO gaming... hell, for another 18 months to 2 years to let bugs, tech and easier pricing kick in.

Thank you, City of Heroes, for giving me a superhero social network combined with amazingly smooth game play. Petitions signed with realistic expectations.

iPhone is 320x480. Not sure if it'll work well or not, but only takes a few minutes to try.
