I actually did the arc and enjoyed it. I was playing on one of my characters and doing AE missions and I saw Sister Flame and went, "Hmmm, the team must be doing her arc. Wait, we are outside of the mission.... Oh, that's the actual Sister Flame on my team." I was surprised to find out she was only like level 27. She tried to get her brother on the team, but the team disbanded before that happened.

Hehe, I've been tempted to transfer a character or two to freedom before the free transfers end for exactly that reason. The rest of me soon steps in and says 'no', but it'd certainly be fun.

I brought out Midnight Guard the II just to try this arc at low levels. Loved the disco trolls!

Wow! Finally someone taller than Sister Flame!

I ran another of my lowbies through Sister Flame's arc yesterday; Nova Rising, my level 18 shield/mace tank. Her offense isn't very well developed yet, so just like my FF defender, she was quite happy to run point for Sister Flame's fiery justice.

On the usual note, tall Sister Flame is tall. At least she's not as ridiculously oversized as Doc Delilah, though, who my tanker had to babysit earlier that day...

Yep, that was the _REAL_ Sister Flame. I was in the passenger's seat that day (sitting beside Sister Flame IRL while she played). I let my youngest daughter take out Brother Frost so she could team with Sister Flame. I do recall her mentioning she was in a team and she tried to get her sister into it, but it broke up before she could.

Sister Flame is not much of a typer. She says she's a little shy and it takes a while for her to punch out a message. However, she reads well, so if you ask her to drop Rain of Fire or take out the purple mob, she'll do it right quick.

Wonderful story.

[/ QUOTE ]I love stories like this. After all, this is indeed a game! Although, I never thought of it as an educational game.

[/ QUOTE ]Thanks all for the kind replies. Flame is a little emarrassed, but happy.

On the note of educational, being a parent and a occasional teacher, I can find education in just about anything, but CoX has a lot of opprotunities for all ages if you just look for it.

Since Flame is only 6 (soon to be 7), I keep to small math problems. For instance, I ask how many bubbles she has to go until she levels. Say she replies "3", I ask her what 10-7 is and she says "3?". Now, I can say that "I am 10-4 bubbles from levelling" and after a quick finger check (which is rare), Flame says "You got 6 to go.". With older children, you could have them figure out Enhancement cost totals or XP to Level totals.

I even started my little one on "CoH education". I click on an enemy and Princess S (her handle-in-progress) will tell me what color the enemy's name is. Pretty clever for jsut 4.
too bad there isn't any metric of I could add that as well.

Reading, Writing And "Arresting" enemies. CoH has it all.
This is probably the best story I have ever heard If i ever see Flame on the Freedom server ill be happy to team with her

Read the OP and a few latter ones, this is awesome! Your daughter is obviously a very smart, intuituve child that will no doubt go on to great things, the mere fact she has mastered a game that still befuddles me is quite, quite ridiculous! Aside from this, she's now been playing over two years AND made an AE!!

I congratulate you and your family, you must all be very proud of her!

Sister Flame is turning 9 years old in a few weeks. That means she has been playing CoX for 4 years now. Where has the time gone?

I went back and read some of my older posts to reflect on what dear Sister Flame has done over the years. I also tried to think of anything that I did when I was 9 that lasted more than 4 years. Playing baseball was about the only thing that popped into my head.

Every time Sister Flame celebrates a birthday, I ask myself "Is this the year she stops playing CoX"? I don't expect her to be like her old man and play the same game forever... but it would be nice.

This year, I don't think I have anything to worry about. Many nights, Sister Flame will snag my 17" notebook, struggle to get it on her lap and sit beside me as she plays CoX. I still play with her occasionally, but she's getting to a point now where she feel pretty comfortable to play without her Dad on her team (something about having to give me light blues all the time).

I've noticed a change in her playing style as of late. Over the past few months, Sister Flame has become more serious about gaining levels. Instead of plowing through grays in Atlas Park, she has begun to follow mission story lines and is slowly exploring other zones. As I mentioned before, Sister Flame is chewing her way through Croatoa right now and was proud to hit level 27 this weekend. The good news is that even though she is serious about gaining levels, she doesn't want to "farm" or "power level"; she just wants to play the game as it was meant to be played and experience things as they come.

I've been trying to encourage her to make another AE arc with my help, but she keeps telling me she doesn't have any more good stories. She doesn't mind playing her arc once a week or trying other ones once in a while, but she refuses to make another AE arc "just because". However, I do have her permission to use the Disco Trolls in case I want to make an arc. She still extremely embarrassed by all the comments and pictures she sees about her AE arc. Modesty is still one of her best attributes.

I am very impressed with her "chat smarts". She usually ignores anything that comes across the window that isn't Team Speak and if she gets a Tell, she lets me know. She's pretty shy about replying, so most times she says nothing, but she does what her team leader asks without question and in a pinch, she has a way of communicating with emotes that is quite cute.

I also have to add that both Sister Flame and her little sister Princess S did send War Witch's a fairly large valentine. I got stuck printing off some pictures for them as they spent all week working on each of their cards. I did mention it was a contest with prizes and of course, Sister Flame had her own unique take what could be won:

Wyll: There are some cool prizes you can win if your card is picked.

SF: Really? Like what?

Wyll: A gaming headset is the big prize.

SF: Like head phones?

Wyll: Yep.

SF: That's not very cool. What else is there?

Wyll: um... a t-shirt, pins and a projector pen.

SF: Like a flashlight?

Wyll: Yep. It let`s you shine a symbol on the wall.

SF: Oh, like *insert DC copyrighted symbols*?

Wyll: Uh no. It COX symbols.

SF: This isn`t sounding very cool. Is there a trophy?

Wyll: No trophy.

* SF just wrinkles her face at me and I get a "Dad doesn't know what cool is" look *

See you all when Sister Flame dings level 30!

Ciao.

Wyll

This brought back a memory from my own childhood - at about S.F.'s age, I suppose, I was given a more young-adult-oriented coloring book containing detailed black & white outlines of WWII fighter planes and bombers from all sides of the conflict.

At first I was just coloring them the way you'd color a picture of a flower or teddy bear - whatever I wanted to do was fun.

Then my WWII-vet grand-dad explained the significance of these aircraft, and pointed out the descriptions of common color schemes in small type at the bottom of the page.

I then began taking the whole thing very seriously, trying my best to get the colors *just right*, and taking great pride when I turned out a spot-on match (according to grand-dad).

I remember it as a turning-point of sorts, on the road to maturity.

Thanks for bringing that back to me, Wyll & SF, this thread has been a real boon to these forums!

Unfortunately, that is not likely to be the last time you get that look.

As far as Sister Flame producing another AE arc, might I make a suggestion to her?

Sister Flame thinks War Witch is as cool as cool can be. What if there were a girl in Paragon City who felt the same way about Sister Flame? If some group of villains found out about this girl and kidnapped her, what would Sister Flame do?

I am betting there would be an Immediate and Epic Rescue.

There are battalions of heroes who responded when Sister Flame was in danger, and if she asked for their help, they would come again in an instant.

Also, if Sister Flame particularly liked some of the heroes who have posted pictures in this arc, I have no doubt they would volunteer to have their heroes appear as guest stars if so requested by Sister Flame.

Just an idea.

All of the followers of this thread simply enjoy the notion of a girl super-hero who plays with enthusiam, abandon and wonder while following the noblest traditions of super-heroing. I know I do!

"How do you know you are on the side of good?" a Paragon citizen asked him. "How can we even know what is 'good'?"

"The Most High has spoken, even with His own blood," Melancton replied. "Surely we know."

I think everyone can pretty much agree on that point.

There I was between a rock and a hard place. Then I thought, "What am I doing on this side of the rock?"

Hiya _Wyll_ just wanted to thank you for the costume file, and tell ya I finished the arc,
regretfully only had room do to file size to add Sister Flame in the final mish "but fitting, it's the Finale "
She does seem shorter for some reason, but it worked out great, I hear there upping the Ae file size limit and when they do
I have a spot earlier in the mish to add her.
I'll P.M. ya the arc number as I think it would be in bad taste to post it in this thread, but wanted to bump this thread and post a pic of one of my toons with Sister Flame.

uh oh someone's makin a Gal wait.

PS- It might surprise people, but in my research there has been no academic study of families that game together. At least, not that I have found.

I hope not, it was always entertaining to see another parents words. My son's now 8, and his toon Plantbot finally has hit 33. For an ADHD 8 year old, getting a plant/kin controller up to 33 is impressive to me.

I hope people are in the mood for an update….

Yes, it has been a while since I have written, but rest assured that Sister Flame and I are still playing. Not as much as we use to, but we are still playing.

How amusing is it that as I write this, my dear Sister Flame is now ten years old. I looked back over this thread and realized that she has been playing City of Heroes for five years. I don’t know many things that a child under the age of thirteen would do for five years straight willingly, but I can assure you that playing CoX is at the top of Sister Flame’s list.

Sister Flame is still holding at a steady level 27 with her hero. She is starting to read the mission text more and wants to know the story behind the arcs. Instead of just mindless plowing through mission and mission, Sister Flame takes the time to read the clues and tries to figure out what may happen next. From what I can understand, rescue missions are probably her favorite next to any mission where an NPC fights along side of her. We have fought her evil double (I think she had Dark / Dark powers) and Flame made sure to cut her down in style. “No posers” was her comment.

I will have to admit that she does have a bit of an ego, albeit a little one. She makes me use her remote AE power (I stress the word “hers” and not “mine” since I am not even close to earning it) to check her AE mission rating and the number of comments. She’s closing in on 450 now and still has no desire to make a sequel. She keeps saying that “the story has been told. No need for more”. She has promised me that I could use the Disco Trolls myself in my own AE arc if I wanted to so I could “ride her fame”. *oh geez*

Sister Flame has also taken on the role of CoX Mentor with her younger sister, now a fresh 7 years old. It is amusing to watch them play together and hear Sister Flame call out the targets. Most times, names work but with the more complicated ones, Sister Flame usually just says “The one that looks like a punk with dark blasts” or something to that effect. The two of them usually get a nice team going with their lowbies and run all over Atlas Park doing the same arcs over and over again. Plus, Sister Flame always honors her sister’s request to take time out and go for a swim in the big pool.

Outside of CoX, Sister Flame is turning into a subtle comic geek. Recently, she has adopted The Flash as her hero of choice (mine is Captain Marvel) and has slowly began to collect items with the Flash’s emblem on it. She is also very proud to tell her friends she loves comics, enjoys watching superhero movies and also plays one on the Internet. She is not embarrassed by her hobby and is proud to flash her “geek badge” when she can.

She is also turning into a true hero at school. She’s come of her shell, so to speak, over the last year. She has no problem getting on stage to act or try out for a talent show. When she sees someone being treated unfairly, she’s the first one to step in and try to make things right. All in all, she is my little geek that I am very proud of.

I also most forgot. We still make it a point to stop in and see War Witch in Pocket D whenever we pass through as we travel the zones. War Witch is still Sister Flame’s favorite “maker” (her term for developer) and she still talks about the time she got to interact with good old WW. Maybe one day we’ll make the trek to a CoX meet and greet, but with two other sisters, it means I would have to take everybody and not everybody in the house is into CoX. (I know. Blasphemy!)

Anyways, we are still playing. I know that the plan is to have Sister Flame level to 50 in Atlas park and when they day does come, I’ll give you all lots of notice.

Keep Fighting The Good Fight

Wyll
