What My Six Year Old Has Learned From CoX

When I was six, all I had to play games with was a Coleco Telstar. I didn't get an Atari 2600 until I was 12.

But at the time, I thought such games were the coolest thing around. It's a good thing I wasn't able to see into the future and glimpse games like this one, or else it would have ruined the entire 1980's for me!

You mean that the graphics and story behind Yar's Revenge don't resonate with you even today?

Are you kidding? I loved that game and the little comic that went with it. I still have the cartridge, the comic and the instruction manual.

I guess that puts it into perspective. Thank you!

Not quite as positive an example as yours, but this reminds me of a friend who taught his son how to play Quake2. We were online deathmatching and this little booger goes to town...ON EVERYONE AND THEIR BROTHER.

We had people screaming "bot!" all over the place. Laughingly, my buddy and I proceed to inform 12 other people that they just got their collective hiney handed to them BY AN EIGHT YEAR OLD KID.

He might be okay with it. You never know, after the first two or three kids, your brains are roughly the consistency of tapioca. So it might seem like a good idea for him.

I'm sure Mrs. _Wyll_, the one who actually has to give birth to them, might have a few (or more than a few, depending on temperment) choice words to say about the proposition.

Your daughter has developed quite a following which I think is pretty great.

I would like to post a suggestion for my fellow posters here.

There are times when this community can come together like no other so here goes the suggestion.

Since Wyll has teased Sister Flame about something special in RV.. I would like to suggest that the players of the server *make* it something special.

Have Wyll let everyone know when he will be letting Sister Flame on and into RV and when that day and time happens.

Have a full team of Heroes standing by to make sure no one bothers Sister Flame while she is inside. Then can them help her spawn the AV's and even help her defeat them of course.

Just a suggestion of course.
I am down with this notion of the Clicky-Clack Posse showin' up in RV. Count me in... as long as it's from 7p to 10p, M-F, or anytime Saturday or Sunday, unless the Texans are playing, or I might be on the motorcycle... Make sure I know which server... I'll do a 'toon transfer with Big Thing for this. He'd fit right in, I think.

I remember that. I still don't believe you.

/Quake II, I had two maps that I absolutely RULED on... I'd show that kid a thing or two.
//All the others, I sucked at, and I don't mind admitting it... I was mediocre at best on the Quake/Doom deathmatch thing.

It's entirely possible to make this an event open for all Children of CoH on Freedom. I know several parents that let their kids play, and quite a few players, in general, that don't have the RV badges.

I know I'd be interested in helping Sister and Rose in RV, when the time comes.

Edit: If it did come down to an event, it's also entirely possible to get the Devs to bestow a yellow title on the kids that attended. I don't know how to go about asking for that though.

Hi all:

Sister Flame wanted me to post that she likes the comments and thanks you all for following her antics. She also wanted me to report that she is proudly level 42 thanks to some great teams over the past week. I have not mention that she is now able to enter Recluse Victory yet; she's been distracted with doing the Manticore TF.

Princess Rose also wanted tell me that her Storm Defender is now 22 and she did it all be herself. She's getting better at playing a support toon (once I showed her where the heal button was and what it did), but she has developed a dislike to Founder's Falls (her teams have been taking her there lately). Mostly, the sniper attacks really whiz her off.

As for me, I took advantage of the .99 offer and bought a third account. So, now I can play as well. Unfortunately, instead of my two daughters playing on it, I have been relegated to using it. Without access to 7 years of Vet Rewards, it makes me feel like I am sitting at the kid's table... so to speak.

I did mention to Mrs. Wyll about having a few more kids so I could make a full team of 8 for trials and TFs. I was given "the look" and no more need to be said.

It is nice to hear everyone's elses stories about sharing CoX with their kids. I think it is one of the more unique aspects that keeps me drawn to the game: I can honestly say it is a true family experience.

Cheers

Wyll

This is pretty awesome. I happen to be the father of a 6 year old that just recently started playing, and I can see all of the things the OP mentioned happening with my daughter. She absolutely loved the Halloween event and teaming with others for the special trial was a little scary at first since I didn't know for sure how she would handle herself playing with people other than me. My fears turned out to be unfounded as she not only handled herself very well, but was far more mature than the Scrapper that rage quit because he couldn't get all the badges. She is very much looking forward the next holiday event.

My only regret reading this thread is that you're not playing on Virtue where you'd have plenty of friends.

It's the end. But the moment has been prepared for ...

Honestly, I think Virtue would go to her, don't you think?

Tell Flame I said hello, and pass along my compliments. I hooked her up with a Manti TF last week. Girl's got teeth when it comes to our enemies.

Brilliant! My 8 yr old is way keen on playing CoH. Nixed on a couple of reasons but he does occasionally make characters for me and schemes about maps and adventures he would like to see. Now if only I can get that second computer up and running, I would totally let 'im play on the sly

Well, CoX has brought a lot of Christmas joy to one little girl today!

SuperOz, a wonderful person from downunder, has been working hard on a custom figure for Sister Flame. Instead of delivering any old time, Mr. Oz made sure it would arrive this week and I went to pick it this package.

When I brought it home, Sister Flame found a lovely wrapped package (presents are big with ten year olds), a nice Christmas card and a wonderful letter that Sister Flame had a hoot reading! To know that someone 2000 miles away sent her something and that they were having Christmas without snow just blew her away.

However, what really made her day was the figure inside. She was so excited and proud to have it! It is sitting on her bookcase with her other treasures and she refused to take it out so I can get a better shot of it (Best I can do is a grainy iPod shot for now). She is all ready making plans to bring it to school for a Show and Tell in the new year.

So SuperOz, what can I say? You've made Sister Flame's day and she gives you a hearty thumbs up!

YAY!

MORE YAY!

I am deliriously happy that this has been recieved, and on time no less! It was an absolute delight to make this for Sister Flame and she is welcome to play with it as much as she wants; all the paintwork is well and truly protected.

I've even moved the character in the letter onto Freedom so I can indeed team with the myth, the legend that is Sister Flame. We'll work out times!

Nothing makes me smile more than giving presents and especially to kids. And even more especially to kids who play City of Heroes.

As The Doctor would say: This is Christmas!

Awww, she's very cute This thread continues to make me smile all these years after it was first posted. Yes, even the Angry Citizen can smile about an awesome little girl having fun.

Doom.

Yep.

This is really doom.

Epic. Simply Epic.

Now all that's left (if it's not been done yet) is to have Sister Flame immortalized in Co* somewhere. I don't think that's been done... Perhaps a trainer, or maybe a contact that sends you off on an adventure regarding Clockwork.

Well done Oz, well done.

Speaking of that, how was it done? Is it a modded existing figure with original packaging? Is it a service you have access to down there? I see "Build A Figure" on the packaging so is it a modified Marvel Legend toy? I'm simply curious.

Heh. Okay...it is originally a Marvel Girl Marvel Legends figure that I modded, using another figure's hair (a Psylocke, which then became a custom War Witch, sent to her Dev counterpart along with this figure), so all the work, including the paintjob on the figure is my own doing. I discovered a year or so ago doing a mod for a character of my own was something I had a talent for, so I pushed the boundaries again on this.

The 'City of Heroes Legends' is an imaginary line I created, with the 'Build a Figure' being a Shadow Shard creature (just the same creature as in the Marvel Legends line). So I did things like this:

and:

These were scanned from the original packaging and then photoshopped and reprinted and glued to the original backing boards. These took hours to get to a point where the editing wasn't so jarring as to be noticed right away and above all, look decent. So all of this is off my own expense, and it's been a joy. I'm now six figures in and I keep trying and experimenting. Hope this helps!

Edit: Sorry I couldn't make the main logo picture smaller.
