We will probably never get a handle on the price paid from NCsoft for Cryptic.
I'm not going to put down any numbers, but I did a rough calc of how much revenue CoH/V generates from its player base over one year. I think it was probably more than that (2x operating revenue + goodwill is my rough guide for valuing what a business is worth) which adds up to a nice chunk of change.

thanks lh, that answered my question about the sw licensing issue. i guess i was hoping there wouldn't be ongoing fees for ncsoft to deal with, but maybe it'll turn out to be no big deal.

It should show up on there balance sheet when they tlk about profit and why the profit hit this number and not that number type stuff

I for one welcome our new NCSoft overlords. Oh? What's that you say they were already our overlords? Oh good, That means I don't have to learn to like a new flavor of Kool-Aid. 
All seriousness aside, I'm excited! I for one like the originality of the CoX universe. I love my comics but I don't see how Cryptic's Marvel or SOE's DC offering will be able to hold a candle to my beloved CoX. I welcome the new era of creativity and expansion. Who needed States anyway. Everyone knows Posi is the brains of outfit.

*snerk* Now I'm gonna have mental images of an anthro superpowered unicorn swinging through the city on a beam of light projecting from its forehead, screaming in pain at the g-forces exerted upon its skull.
On topic, I am eager to see where this aquisition takes the game in the long-term. NCSoft NorCal has my full support, as well as access to my secret underground vault of celebratory cream-filled sponge cakes.
I wish NC Soft NoCal the best of luck! I look forward to the content and adventures in both our future!
