Troy Hickman Troy Hickman Troy Hickman!

Did it work?

[/ QUOTE ]

All apologies. I've been intently working on my Hickman's Zombie Survival Squad picks, and as such, I've been unable to answer the Hick-Signal.

[/ QUOTE ]

Sounds weird. I'm picturing an old pick-up truck, a hound dog and maybe some jug whiskey. Guess they could save the day if the emergency was an ornery possum or something.....

[/ QUOTE ]

The Hick-Signal? just what kind of perverse emergency would require a pantsless man to save the day?

[/ QUOTE ]
You think that's bad? I have to answer the Smoke Signal Signal.. you know how stupid it makes you feel to jump in a room and ask why Smoke Signal was signalled with the Smoke Signal Signal?

He already has moved on. A while back. Jack has been MUO focused for quite some time.

So he was the gynecologist at the birth of CoH. Ok, good stuff. But the game's grown and moved on. Time for a pediatrician, don't need a gynecologist any more.

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, technically he would have been an obstetrician, though nearly all obstetricians are also gynecologists and vice versa. Hence the Ob/Gyn abbreviation. But it's the obstetrician side, along with midwives, that deal specifically with pregnancy and childbirth.

The more you know!

All of the bugs or QoL issues that have been lingering for what seems like forever because the programmers were too busy fixing the major bugs. All of those really big pie in the sky ideas that we've dreamed about for so long and couldn't do because there was no one who could implement them...that's all back on the table.

[/ QUOTE ]

So this means you're re-building the game engine from scratch and making it really easy do all the things we've asked for and you've wanted to do that always ended at "the engine can't do it." right?

Well you heard it here first, BAB confirmed it

Jokes aside, I'm really stoked about this. It sounds like CoX's best days really are in the future, not in the past. How many other nearly 4 year old MMO's can claim that.

Sorry, after 35 pages I got tired of reading so I apologize if this is a duplicate, but...

Now that we're talking about extra resources, does this mean we can get some more people on costumes parts, and perhaps some more layers to the costume generator (for things like armbands, jewelry, piercings and all sorts of crap I can't begin to think up on my own)?

Jay and his creations are sex on wheels, but one or two people can only do so much (Ian is still there, no?). Give Jay his own little mini-team and have them go to town.

At this point, any additional freebies they give out will go to everyone. I highly doubt they'd give a whole new freebie to "people who paid" while giving nothing more to those that didn't. That just doesn't make any sense.

That said, we are all getting a bunch of other stuff. Debt wipe, Prestige and some "secret" feature.
What exactly IS it you're asking for? I just don't get the gripe.

[/ QUOTE ]
Sure it does.

As Emnity has pointed out: they want to encourage people to "buy early, buy often". An incentive to do so, or at this very after-the-fact juncture reward for having done so, makes 100% perfect sense.

As for what I'm alsking for? Those people who, in their account management screen, have an entry for COV and an entry for COH (or, an entry for a full-version GVE) ... get some minor token of apppreciation, for having been an "early adopter" of their products.

Not just now, but EVER. (Hey, if someone had just COH, gets access, and decides they want the GVE goodies ... why not encourage them to buy the FULL version, rather than just a "goodies code" ... by dangling an extra badge in front of them?)

[/ QUOTE ]

I see the POV I s'pose. Though I don't really think it's a big deal or even worth the effort, but that's just a difference in opinion.

So, it makes sense. I'll concede that. I just don't think it's very likely. If they can do it, then I wouldn't complain... or care, really.

It's been so hard keeping quiet about this.

Like many of you, I am an avid fan and player of this game. I've played it since launch, have multiple level 50 characters on both sides of the fence. I truly love this game and it's been an honest to god, dream come true to have the opportunity to work on it during the day and then go home and play it at night.

The thing that has excited me most about this whole deal is that I can only see great things coming for all of you guys as the players of this game. And to me, that's what this is deal is all about. Making the game awesome for as many of you as we can. That was ultimately the biggest factor in my decision to leave Cryptic and join NCSoft. All of those things that we've had to push back or write off as taking too many resources to get done in the limited time frames and limited manpower. All of the bugs or QoL issues that have been lingering for what seems like forever because the programmers were too busy fixing the major bugs. All of those really big pie in the sky ideas that we've dreamed about for so long and couldn't do because there was no one who could implement them...that's all back on the table. The sky is literally the limit. It's been really tough having to make decisions on what would be the 'best bang for the buck' and I'm really looking forward to having the recourses so that won't be such a deciding factor moving forward.

Of course, just putting more resources into the game wouldn't cut it by itself. We have a fantastic team that's been working 100% (or more in some cases) on CoH/CoV and every single one of us has made the move to stay with on this project and with this team. So now we've got a lot more recourses, the same fantastic team, the same great game to pour all our energies into, and the best bunch of players to create that content for. Personally, I've never heard of a situation like this in the game industry. It just doesn't happen.

I am completely stoked. You guys should be too. We literally would not be here without you guys.

There's going to be a period of transition as we move into the new studio, staff up, and train those new people in using our systems...but we're going to do our damnedest to make sure you guys don't notice and very shortly after that you will notice the results of this. I really wish I could talk about the things we have planned, but it's not my job...so I don't get that privilege.

All of this is still bittersweet. I have nothing but good things to say about Cryptic, they're a fantastic studio who created a fantastic game and they're now moving on to create more fantastic games. I'm truly going to miss working with them. I'm sure this was a tough decision for them to give up the controlling share of the franchise, but one thing that probably helped make it easier is that they knew their creation was being passed into the absolute best of hands. There is no other group of people in the world who care about this game and it's players like we do.

Looking forward to a very bright future for this game and all of you guys. We love you all of you. You drive us nuts sometimes, but we still love you.

[/ QUOTE ]

WOOT!!!!!!!!!!! Love you guys, I really get more and more stoked about this deal as the days go by to

Lets make CoH better than we ever IMAGINED it could be!!!!!!!!!!!!! Community and Dev's alike!!

I gotta say, this scares the crud right out of me. Not because I have anything against NCSoft, mind you. I have nothing bad to say about them. Honest.

It's just that this game has been so great so far with the Cryptic team, and it makes me nervous when people start talking about messing with something that works.

What worries me more is that I didn't see States, War Witch, Ghost Widow, or Manticore.

I dunno. I guess I just fear change.

Apparently, you have not read the Dev Digest, where War Witch and several others, BAB included, have chimed in.

Jack "Statesman" Emmert left COH long ago to work on Marvel Online. Keep up.

The *entire crew* of the dev team ARE WORKING on this game still. The only differences include "more money", "more people to work for them" and "new office space".

Try reading the whole thing, because we know everyone is on it.

But it's the same team, minus Statesman, but Jack hasn't been a big part of CoX for a year. The only real change is that they will have more resources and a streamlined production hierarchy. Even Back Alley Brawler and War Witch are stoked about the new change.

Now all they have to do is hire me and I'll really be happy.

Other people already covered States and War Witch, and GW just posted.

According to yesterday's radio interview with Lighthouse and Positron, Manticore left Cryptic after the CoV release, so he's been gone for 2 years. In fact, Manticore went to work for another area of NCSoft, and is still in contact with the current team and willing to let them pick his brain about the CoH lore.

I can't see a single bad thing about this change, no possible worries that didn't already exist at Cryptic.

Obviously it's a turning point in the history of the game and we will all look back with a mixture of feelings about everything that has kept us playing this game elicits. It's also the beginning of what looks to be a Golden Age for CoH. Combined with any CoH movie deal in the near future this could be the start of something spectacular!

The only thing I want to know is NCSoft's stand on in game ads. We've been told before that there were no current plans to put ads in CoH/CoV. Is this stilll true? One company or the other had to be considering it or it would never had been brought up in the first place.
