The PvPEC presents the Supergroup Ladder to run continuously on test server as it is available. This ladder will be an ongoing self sustaining entity and provide participating groups with matches and competition at a higher level between CoH groups. Every group who wishes to participate must first read the rules and agree to them.
Supergroup leaders need to make a post on this thread stating that their group agrees to abide by the rules below, an initial roster of players, and a list of alternate contacts that they wish to have the ability to setup official matches or modify the roster in the case of a group leader’s unavailability. It is also recommended that availability be posted in order to make the official match setup process easier for everyone.

Supergroup Ladder Rules:

<ul type="square">[*] The ladder will begin immediately following a tournament where every group will face one another to determine starting rank. [*] Supergroup leaders must post an initial roster of players that they plan to have participating in matches. [*] Supergroup leaders must also designate and post alternate contacts that can setup official matches and modify the group’s roster in case they cannot be reached. [*] The initial roster must be posted at the time of signup and acceptance to these rules. It is part of your admission into the ladder. After the initial post, the roster can be added to or subtracted from at any time by making follow-up posts.[*] A group’s roster is based on test server global names, do not use live globals. If someone changes their global you must update accordingly with a post. [*] A global name may only belong to one Hero group and one Villain group within the ladders.[*] All participants of an official match must have been added to the groups roster at least two weeks prior to the match determined per timestamp posted in this thread. If they are not on the roster, they are not yet eligible to play with that group.[*] All challenges are to be made in the appropriate ladder challenge thread following the initial ladder setup.[*] All challenges within two rungs must be accepted and the matches completed within 2 weeks from the time the challenge was issued. If a group is unable to participate in a match within this time frame, it is automatically a win for the challenging group.[*] The winner of an official challenge will be the team that can win two out of three matches. If a team wins the first two matches, a third match is not required.[*] Matches are to be set to SHW and no special options selected.[*] All matches will be 8v8. They may be larger if agreed upon by both groups prior to the match. And any group may play up to two men down meaning that there could be instances of 7v8, 6v8, 7v6, 7v7, 6v6.[*] Official matches will all be 10 minutes unless agreed upon by both groups in advance, in which case it can be 20 minutes. All matches will be timed at either 10 minutes or 20 minutes.[*] The only inspirations allowed are tier one inspirations.[*] If you can purchase an item from the arena store, then it is allowed in official matches. If you are required to buy or obtain an item elsewhere, then it is not allowed in an official match (i.e. base buffs, IoPs, SoWs).[*] Vengeance stacking is not allowed as it is a known exploit. Until this exploit is resolved, Vengeance will not be allowed in any match. Use of Vengeance is an automatic forfeit for that match.[*] A team who wins in an official challenge moves up one rung of the ladder regardless of the placement of the group challenged.[*] A group will only move down the ladder one rung and only in instances where the group directly below them is the group who is replacing them.[*] A group can challenge as high above them on the ladder as they so desire. If a challenge is made outside of two rungs, the challenge may be declined by the higher ranked team.[*] The first round of an official match must begin within 15 minutes of the designated start time. If the match is not started within this time frame, it is an automatic forfeit of that match by the team that is not prepared. If another 15 minutes pass and the delaying team is still not ready, the prepared team takes the win. [*] Between every match there is up to a 15 minute down time, but the 2nd/3rd match must start within 15 minutes of the previous match.[*] For all official matches, groups are to report to Peregrine Island Ruby.[*] Groups may request to view their oppositions Supergroup Base and to do an inspiration swap. If a group is caught using anything but tier one inspirations then they automatically forfeit. A screenshot of the trade window must be provided if this occurs.[*] Groups may request a reset only one time due to slow loading for each round of play. A team has 30 seconds to report ‘all in’ and if both teams are missing people then the match is restarted with no penalty to either team.[*] Both teams MUST say ‘all in’ once all their teammates are present. If a group engages before this is announced then the team at fault automatically forfeits that round.[*] In the event of a disconnect, a team has 90 seconds of a 10 minute match or 3 minutes of a 20 minute match to report such and request a restart. The opposing team must oblige if it is within this time frame. If a disconnect takes place after this time frame, then the match is to continue and it is scored as an official match.[*] There is an automatic reset if any of the following maps are drawn: Office Map, Monkey Cage, and Cave Map.[*] All results of matches are to be posted in the ladder challenge thread following the match and within 24 hours.[*] In case a match is contested, a screenshot of the final score is required. It is for this reason that SG Captains are encouraged to take screen shots of the final scores of each match.[*] Rules may be revisited and added or modified at a later date as participating groups see fit. In order for this to occur, a meeting must be called giving all participating groups a chance to express their views and vote.[/list]Supergroups must be signed up by 11:59pm EST of July 22nd (Sunday) to be eligible for a seat in the initial ladder. Any group not signed up by that time will be placed at the bottom rung of the ladder.

While I am most definitely against the Monkey Cage, these rules are for the people by the people.

As I reviewed the rules, a few questions came up that I’m hoping someone can confirm/clarify.

Overall, big thanks to everyone who had a hand in getting this together. It should be a very welcome addition to the game. Kudos for eliminating Vengeance from the ladder.

I was/am a little curious about the ranking system. Is that something that other ladders use or was it created for this? Moving up one rung at a time and only dropping one rung for inactivity means that a team that’s been undefeated for a few months could still be ranked behind a team that’s basically left the game and forfeited every match they’ve had over the same time frame. I would think that there should be some sort of inactivity limit along the lines of “If you haven’t fought a ladder match in 2 months, you’re automatically moved to the bottom of the ladder” or some sort of penalty that goes beyond forfeiting a match or two every two weeks.

[ QUOTE ]

[/ QUOTE ]

Is it correct to assume that this tournament will take place over some number of weeks, rather than in one day or one weekend? If groups have two weeks to schedule a challenge on the ladder, I would expect that there is an understanding that not all groups will be available on a given day, so the tournament would need to be spread out to allow teams to schedule matches against each other.

[ QUOTE ]

All challenges within two rungs must be accepted and the matches completed within 2 weeks from the time the challenge was issued. If a group is unable to participate in a match within this time frame, it is automatically a win for the challenging group.

[/ QUOTE ]

You can have more than one outstanding challenge at a time, correct? So, the team ranked 3rd can challenge both of the top 2 teams in hopes of scheduling fights against both teams in the next two weeks.

If Team A (ranked 5th) challenges Team B (ranked 3rd), and then subsequently gets defeated by Team C (ranked 6th) which drops Team A’s rank to 6th, does Team B still need to schedule a fight with Team A, or can that challenge be dropped in favor of scheduling a match with Team C (now ranked 5th)?

What happens if Team B (#3) challenges Team A (#1), and Team A can only fight on Friday, Sat, Sun, but Team B is only available every other night? Is Team A (The team being challenged) required to fight at a time when the challengers indicate they are available?

If Team #1 on the ladder says that they are up for a match on Friday at 9pm EST, but Teams #2 and #3 are not available at that time, can they fight anyone else that is available at that time in an official ladder match? If two teams are available, should they fight the highest ranked (the #6 instead of the #11)? Does it matter who accepts the challenge first or is it at the higher ranked team’s discretion to fight who they want?

[ QUOTE ]
Vengeance will not be allowed in any match. Use of Vengeance is an automatic forfeit for that match.

[/ QUOTE ]

Does this mean that no player’s build can have Vengeance (i.e. even if they don’t use it)? I would assume that’s the case, but just wanted to confirm. If not, I could see accusations of “they used vengeance” “no we didn’t” “yes you did”.

Sorry for the long post. I just want to make sure I’m clear on how things will work.

Hell Raisers will be joining the ladder and I will post our roster soon.

Yes my question also, is vengeance banned completely or can 1 character have it for himself?

The thought process behind this was that it will be easily self sustaining. There are not so many in the ladder that it will take long for the inactive group to get moved to the bottom. There probably should be a rule for removal once that group hasn't participated for a period of time. Two months sounds pretty good, but we'd all have to get together to discuss this and make it official.

[/ QUOTE ]

I believe what was discussed was running official matches on a Sunday night and again on a Wednesday night within a bracket of time (i.e. 9pm EST to midnight) and then anyone that wasn't able to make either of those days can schedule a time on their own to establish initial seating. The hope is that between the two nights, all groups should be able to make it and fight each other.

[/ QUOTE ]

My understanding is that once the challenge is accepted that it should be completed as Team A was within the mandatory two ranks at the time the challenge was issued and accepted, things could become complicated otherwise. I would say part of this scenario depends on the timing, though. If it was early in the challenge process (i.e. the challenge wasn't yet accepted) and the challenging team's rank got dropped before that acceptance happened, then the higher team could decline the challenge if they chose to do so.

[ QUOTE ]

What happens if Team B (#3) challenges Team A (#1), and Team A can only fight on Friday, Sat, Sun, but Team B is only available every other night? Is Team A (The team being challenged) required to fight at a time when the challengers indicate they are available?

[/ QUOTE ]

One would hope that there is a time that can be agreed upon. It's recommended to list your group's regular availability here to avoid potential conflict. This situation could be mediated on a case by case basis between the SG leaders and PvPEC representatives. If not resolved, then a decision could be made in favor of one group over the other and a change in rank is possible based on that decision.

[ QUOTE ]

If Team #1 on the ladder says that they are up for a match on Friday at 9pm EST, but Teams #2 and #3 are not available at that time, can they fight anyone else that is available at that time in an official ladder match? If two teams are available, should they fight the highest ranked (the #6 instead of the #11)? Does it matter who accepts the challenge first or is it at the higher ranked team’s discretion to fight who they want?

[/ QUOTE ]

They can fight the available group and it does not matter who accepted the challenge first. All that matters is that the matches are completed within the 2 week time frame from the date each challenge is issued. Schedules are flexible otherwise.

[/ QUOTE ]

If someone uses Vengeance at all right now, they lose the round. A player can have it in their build, but cannot use it. It is encouraged that they remove Vengeance from any binds or trays so that it cannot be accidentally triggered. If you see someone with Vengeance, provide a screenshot for proof.

[/ QUOTE ]

The deadline to get your roster posted is Sunday night (July 22nd). This is required to get in the initial seating of the ladder as agreed upon by the SG leaders at the meeting.

In addition to the above, I believe now that with unlimited name changes available on test, an additional rule to address naming conventions should also be added for official matches.
