Aero, by forum rules, couldn't specify who exactly he was mad at, but in conversation with him, I was informed that I am one of those people. I hope he doesn't mind me saying that.

So, in light of some of the things said in his post, I'm going to let you know what my own behavior has been.

I very rarely hit the 'notify moderator' button. I would much prefer to handle it directly. I never once hit the 'notify' button in the the "have fun" thread. For one thing, that was specifically what that thread was for, for another, I very very rarely even read that thread. I certainly don't keep up with it.

If I do hit the "notify" button it is for more serious problems, flames, really nasty insults, EULA violations.. the like.

I have very rarely PM'd about anybody. There was some harassment going on awhile back, and I did PM several times about that. When the "facts" thread blew up, I was NOT one of the first people to PM Ex about that. However, I was specifically asked to provide Ex with some information, and as a result of that request, I sent her a PM about what happened in that thread and the problem, as I saw it, in general. If I had to guess, I'd say of the 1/2 dzn PMs Ex says she got on the subject, I would say I was probably the 5th or 6th. Again, I'm more inclined to attempt to deal with a problem directly.

My goal every step of the way in this thread was to be positive, constructive, reasonable and civil. I am a person with a wicked temper, and I'll be the first to admit I can be a real [censored]. I made a concerted effort not to do that here. If at any point I seemed dismissive, condescending, or rude... it was solely due to a poor choice of words on my part. It was not my intent.

My only intent was to try to work this out so that everyone - everyone - can enjoy our forums.

So, I'm making a blanket apology here. If I did not express myself as intended, if I caused anyone pain, hurt feelings.. whatever... I am very sorry. It was never my intention to do so.

I want my Protector forums back. I love this server, I love this forum, I love my fellow Protectorites. I want this to be a place where everyone feels comfortable posting, asking questions, goofing off, joking around... Not just my friends, and not just other groups. Everyone. That is what I want.

The only problem here, really, is that a very small number of people (as I see it) are trying to dictate what is acceptable to the vast majority of posters here. They do it in threads by trying to "correct" other people's behaviour, and when that doesn't work they run off and tattle because they aren't getting their own way. They are trying to nitpick and micro-manage to the point where no one is having any fun unless it is on their terms.

I believe it is past the point of being enjoyable for everyone as a community. I stated PUBLICLY I was sorry for popping off (in a nice matter at that) something that offended me. I felt I was being told to stay out of a thread and go somewhere else as did several of my firends.

I feel I have the right to state my feelings as well as everyone else on these forums. It goes back to Who's opinion am I allowd to state? Mine or the opinion of the majority.

This really doesn't matter though.

I have also stated that I am willing to play along and be more mindful and respectful to others I ask for the same treatment ingame and out!

You are right T. I have done that like I have said before.

To Ex, I have to ask, which mod do we PM if we have a problem that doesn't involve a thread? If you remember, but in your workload I doubt, I PM'd ya only because I wasn't sure about WHO to PM about a issue and it was a specific one. Something that the notify mod button wouldn't cover. Also, if ya get a PM from a mod and told to contact LH or you but get no response what is our recourse? Case in point, before ya came on board, I mentioned my ethnic background but it was censored. Someone asked what the word was because it was very unusual for something like that to be censored. I admit I bypassed the filter by spacing the letters out, but I was talking about a ethinic group! Not being a jerk and swearing. I mean, black, asain, white, european, muslim, christian, buddist, taoist, communist. voodoo, even necrophilic aren't censored, so why should a word that denotes a person's ethnic background be censored only cause it is from a Judiac background. Or more simply put, why is it that I have to say holocaust background to let someone know my ethnic background?
Yes this has been simmer for a long time. I figure someone hit the notify mod button only because they were messing with me, but when I get a email from mod 6 saying to direct all questions to LH and I do and all I get is silence. That just says to me unless your in a brown-nosing group your SOL.

As Aero can say, I agree with him, I miss the welcoming commitee comments we use to have. I didn't partake of them since I am mainly a solo player and have pissed off some the regulars with my viewpoints on illict drug usage and have made no bones about it. I have kept my mouth shut about it for the most part unless I feel it gets out of hand here. But I haven't every hit the notify mod button on any subject about it.

I like almost everyone here. There are a few I have issues with but that is MY problem. I did bring it to the boards ONCE, and it was resolved that day. That seems to be the main thing we do, we getting into a issue with someone and in a day, for the most part, it is resolve or taken to PMs.

What upsets me the most, and what pulled Ex into here, is that we lost the Facts thread. Yes I did threadjack it but I also backed off when asked/ordered to stop by someone other than the OP. When I check the boards again after sleeping, I work graveyard, I find it locked. All because folks took offense to some made up facts about us even though they did the same thing in the beginning. That smacks of a clique mentality to me. Just because your the odd man out but try to fit in your punished for it, and I mean for anyone that was subjected to it. For me, I could care less but I do respect another person's viewpoint till it is forced upon someone else.

That seems to be what bugs me Ex. Like you said it is a few folks that are hitting the notify button. Maybe there should be some datamining done to see if there is a personal vendetta against folks going on here or what. I know I saw it for a few months with Wolfen but he, for the most part, let it be. Like our moms said, if someone picks on ya repeatly, they are teasing and your reacting to it just gives them what the want. Don't respond to them and they get bored and find someone else to pick on.

I only responded because I PMed Aero and with his response I felt I needed to say more than I did.

I am taking my sig to MWO and MWT. Let them wonder what it means.

Now, I'm outspoken. I don't like to just grin and bear it. If I don't like someone, I say it. If Think someone is acting like a r-tar, I say it. I don't chatter behind closed doors or on private channels. I'll come right out and say it.

I know I'm not the perfect poster. I know I have probably helped jack my share of threads in the past. But lately around here it's been ridiculous. I point to GA's Stalker Report. Now I don't like GA. I have reasons for that. But the reason I don't like his thread is because it's become this beast for people to talk about how cute thier socks look, instead of what he set it out to be, which was a well written diary style entry about his adventures on this server. That's a cool thing. And I might not like the guy, but his stuff, what of it you can actually read if you can find in amongst 700 posts about the price of stamps in Ungola, is well done.

Yes sometimes we all need to fire off a quick "Shut up you" to our friend who just "pwned" us in a reply. But let it end there. Going back and forth and taking a thread about something meaningful and turning it into the Poster A and B show and burying the point of tread some 8 pages back is NONSENSE!

That's why so many of us have become somewhat disillusioned and jaded in out view of the boards. We used to be a pretty happy group. Now we seem to be more focused on what so and so said, and where what's thier name was the other night. It's a game people! We're supposed to be here to have fun! If you don't like someone and wanna burn em, burn em, but man let it go after that. Hell I've taken my pot shots at people, but I drop it after that, or I handle it in PRIVATE.

And for the love of cake, if you need to pump your post count to make yourself feel important. Stick to the Fun and Games section of the boards. Plenty of threads in there designed for just such a purpose. Leave our server out of it, cause odds are, most of you don't even play here.

Yes, I am talking to you Golden Girl.

Well spotted

All cliques should be mocked or ignored - they add nothing to any forums at all.

But it's a valid point - cliques are corrosive and harmful, and become worse the longer they're left to fester.

Oh yeah, can we PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE add Quote Pyramids to the list?!? That drives me nuts more than anything else, if for not other reason, because they are murder on a message board server. Oh yeah, and a minimum character limit to a post, not including html or aother such coding.

that is in fact not true, its been told to me of several occasions you have chosen to bash me, as one example, (like I care) in chat channels I am not on. The most recent being only several days after a civil chat we had. I am known for my sharp teeth on occasion, but at least mine never bite in the back.

yes. personal calling out helps immensely.

and if you are simplifying threadjack posts to most (if any) people caring about post count, try again.

and btw, every person has a right to read and post in ANY server forum. This basic right as as important to defend as anything else. New people, lurkers, and visitors have no stripes to earn. Sorry the days of one crowd dominating this forum, sailed long ago. Get over it.

I know Ex is not allowed to verify this, but it is strongly my impression that there is a very small number of people repeatedly hitting the "notify mods" button.

If I had to guess, I would probably say that (with a not-miniscule number of exceptions) the majority of reports are being made by fewer than ten people.

[/ QUOTE ]

Are you serious??!!! Just a few people???

I have seen hundreds of threads hijacked and the OP mocked when they asked for the jacking to stop. I've seen new posters, friends, veteran's and myself who don't normally post have our threads completely fragmented with crap and unreadable...and you think it's just a FEW people clicking notify?!?!

Protector forums can be very nasty, I'm sure there are MANY people that have been pissed off and willing to click notify..even if they don't post anymore...dont kid yourself...and I bet this number will continue to increase unless the problem is fixed.

Okay, guys . . . this is neither helping, nor on topic. Don't make me report you!!!!!!!

So here is the thing as I see it, we just need to be a bit more conscious of what is going on around us in a thread. That is all there is to it. The click theory, vendetta theory, tourette's theory all of that is pointless. Why a person hits the notify mod button we will never know. What we can know, is how often we our selves do it.

I wish to combine two view points and try and make it a definitive answer without having to label every thread we make as to whether I can post silliness in it. So, as per Aerones and Sooner, here is what I have:

1. If someone asks you to stop with rampant threadjacking, please be considerate enough to do so. Whether it is the OP or not doesn't matter.

2. If you are asking someone to stop threadjacking, do it NICELY! A gentle "Hey guys, can we get back on topic here? WHy yes Hami IS really big and purple. . . ." is all you need. That is it. No need to insult the threadjackers, call them names or belittle their fun. Just a gentle nudge.

and 3. Lay off the notify mod button. There is no reason to continually have threads butchered because one post early on was deleted and everyone just hit Quick Reply after that. If you see a flagrant breaking of the rules that offends your very being, by all means, report it. But if someone is making another joke about my butt, which happens, let it go. You don't have to enjoy it, you don't have to like the poster or the subject, but you CAN keep yourself from reporting it.

I don't want this forum to turn into a police state. I am pretty sure that no one else does either. And the only way to keep the authorities from rushing in is to keep them from knowing what is going on. So shhhhhhhhhhh!

Yah, a lot of non-protector players offering up snide and/or snotty comments, or opinions on a place they don't even really play/particpate. *shrugs* Happens

Ex, since no one REALLY commented on your "list of rules", I think they sound pretty good. Now cross your fingers and hope everyone follows them.

Hey so on the topic of what a great server Protector is ::brushes emo Spidey 3 hair out of face:: let me just share a great testimony in regard to this server ::/e soapbox::

A few weeks back I posted that I had not hit 50 yet and that I wondered when I ever would. Then I met you people! Whom, btw, I am very grateful for. Everyone was really helpful and told me what it took to get there. I was encouraged to check out Jello Shooters, which I did, and btw, you guys make me shoot the coke I am drinking out my nose mid-mish! Anyhow, I met Nishanna there and gave her some invention salvage she needed for a recipe. Ever since that night I have mished for nearly three weeks with her and her husband. My wife and I are now part of her SG and mish together with them every night.

So in closing, this is a great server filled with great people. We all have within us the potential for great heroism and great evil (hence CoX since some of us are villains and some heroes, and some masquerade as heroes even though we're villains GA! ) May we continue in the heroic spirit that Paragon inspires in us all, and thank you all for simply being you!

P.S. Did I say you were all great yet? You Are!!!

[ QUOTE ]

So, my point is this. This thread, Ex being dragged down to play babysitter keeps getting done because (as far as I seem to understand it) of sillyness.

[/ QUOTE ]

Wanted to highlight this cause it reminded me of something I learned while playing this game, wich I tought had some relevence.

This is the first MMO I've ever played. So when I started, I had to come to terms with alot or terminology (BRB, BRT, OMW), ya I was really new to the MMO scene. I also realized that I had to learn what people meant. Not in terms of defining what they were saying, but making their intentions clear.

What I mean is, we communicate thru writting, not talking. So not being able to see the persons face, or hear the persons voice, you can sometime loose what the person is really trying to say. So this can lead to misinterpretations.

So my point is, what is a tongue-in-cheek joke to one person, can sound like a sarcastic remark to another. Wich leads to the conversation going downhill from there.

So coming back to the subject at hand (wich was tolerance), when you read a remark that makes you mad or confused, ask the poster what they meant. Instead of trying to see something between the lines that really isnt there.

1) Be respectful and realize that you have different personalities and that each person adds to the overall community.

2) Live and let live....keep things in perspective.

3) Toughen UP.

4) Make a disclaimer or title your posts specifically so that people know the expectations, asking people politely to stay on topic is a reasonable request and should be respected.

5) The notify moderator button is not your personal vendetta tool to report someone you don't like. You notify the moderators on issues that break the rules, if you don't want to see a post disrupted or if a post is in general "for fun" use some discretion on reporting or you may be upset at the end result.

6) Communicate with each other in private instead of airing out battles in public.

7) Agree to disagree.

8) Cut the mods some slack, remember they are not the enemy, they are merely responding to posts that you...point them to. BTW Lighthouse and I are not Moderators, just for a clarifying point.

9) The moderator team is not a suggestion box, they do not read your post for content nor do they send it to the development team. If you use the notify moderator button you will be getting someone who is trained on the rules and policies posted on the boards.

10) Don't forget that we all have bad days, sometimes we need to cut each other some slack, after all we are all here for the same reason.
