All I can say is I love you Devs!!!

It is becoming a habit. I sometimes wounder if Lemur doesn't have an irrational hatred of PC.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not that I think he needs my defense, but I am not sure that that is a fair characterization of Lemur. While he is a very critical person, I think, from what I have gathered reading his posts, that it comes from a very logical mindset and less from an emotional place (although I have no doubt that illogical statements irk the heck out of him/her).
I think that BAB did talk about the RGB values. And did discuss why simply changing them would not work. it should be linked at the beginning of this thread. -

Let me know what stealth shots you would like to see.
[/ QUOTE ]
Stealth shot?
HmmÂ… I want a stealth shot of two Red Names conversing about stuff. We seem to always see just one of them.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd like a stealth shot of the devs playing on one of those large gaming tables. Just to see em laughing or talking smack, drinking a soda, eating. Just some off time stuff. -
[ QUOTE ]
so ok...most of the devs are posting...but wheres recluse at??
why isnt he posting anymore?

QFT. Where is he? -

You had me up to this point:

Now, back to the design grind... anyone know a good way to pick a handcuff with a mechanical pencil, a Hero Clix, and a poker chip?
[/ QUOTE ]
1) Snap the poker chip at the person holding the keys, much like you'd snap a bottle cap. Practice with pennies, then work your way up to quarters until you're sure you can nail your target in the forehead. Bonus points if you get a great buzzing noise when the chip zips away.
2) When the person comes over to give you a smackaround for hitting them, stab them in the eye with the pencil.
3) Unlock and scram, leaving the Hero Clix as a jaunty calling card.
[/ QUOTE ]
Doh!!! Reading comprehension FTW!! Why did I think he said paperclip!!!??!!! I bow to your superior escape method Sok. -
Place paperclip into the key insert on your handcuffs....it will make people think you know how to pick a lock. Place your hand in a colder area (your skin will contract, effectively shrinking your hand slightly). Take the heroclix figure and pit him against an eraser, you'll find the entertainment necessary as the time consuming effort involved in this is long and boring. Finally, once you have seen a significant shrinking of the skin, resultant from the cold air, use the poker chip the way you would use a shoehorn, to aid in slipping your hand out of the handcuff.
Next, please unchain BaB as he will tell us more about Dual Blades! Thanks! -
Yeah, and what comics are you reading these days? Anything interesting?
-
First post after a redname.
We just want to see you around more often is all. -
For me, it has meant the ability to choose custom colors for your powers. That, and the allowance of the possibility to change out some weapon models.

So just because we don't work for cryptic...doesn't mean we cant help cryptic.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, it does.
The problem is that we armchair designers don't actually know anything about the architecture of the CoH game engine. It's easy to look at the externals and make assumptions about what the internals look like. Unfortunately, assumptions is all they are. Without detailed knowledge of the nuts and bolts of the game engine, none of us forumites are in any position to make any useful suggestions to Cryptic; never mind whether the people making the suggestions have the qualifications to be making them.
Imagine that your brother tells you about his new car and how it's great, but the performance is not quite up to par. You look at the symptoms, and you say "Well, I'll bet we can just tune up the fuel injection system and rebuild the piston rings and we'll have it purring pretty in no time."
So, you send it to the mechanic and the mechanic says "Sorry, no can do." When you ask "Why? It sounds simple enough." he responds "It's a rotary engine. It doesn't have fuel injectors or pistons."
I think it's time we all just accepted the idea that the failure to implement power customization after more than three years probably indicates that the game engine "doesn't have pistons", no matter how much it looks like a standard combustion engine from the outside.
There may eventually be a clever person who figures out how to do it within the limitations of the game engine, but that person will be a Cryptic developer (or maybe an intern who was never told that it's "impossible", *heh*) who understands the client/server and the underlying architecture. We armchair designers may be amusing ourselves or making ourselves feel better about our unrequited wish fulfillment by "helping" but the fact is that we're not really telling Cryptic anything they don't already know.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't think that it won't fit in the game engine. They HAVE implemented changes to colors. It is the time factor that is the hump to overcome. If, perhaps, the armachair designers postulated theories about how to cut production time, that might be productive. They know how to implement PC. They just don't know how to do it quickly.
[/ QUOTE ]
Also why the assumption that it has to be done in a rush?
Why not let them do it a little bit at a time?
[/ QUOTE ]
I am all for letting them do it a bit at a time. I am all for it in any manner it comes, just let us know that it is and I will shut up and not post about it again. And yes, I can be held to that. -

It seems to me like the easiest way to introduce at least some power customization would be to bring in a new Epic Archetype that had customizable powers. That way, we could get customization without the devs having to go through and add it to all of the existing powers.
[/ QUOTE ]
Good idea Bill, but doing it that way would mean creating a whole new powerset or 2, and that, combined with making it customizable, and creating an engine of sorts for selecting your colors, etc....may mean just as much time consuming effort.
Lemon, I appreciate your attempt to try and consolidate all of the PC quotes from the devs, as well as to quote the players who have tried to come up with implementable ideas on the subject. I do think, however, that Lemur's idea, for example, has been proven as unable to do, and I also believe that Slick Riptide's was the same.
Aside from that, I do hope people will confine their posts on the subject to this thread, if only to keep from the whole forum jumping on them.
Thanks! -

That was a freackin awsome video!!! We need more like that. Just wish they would have done that as the teaser trailer.

Totally agree, that vid was well done and way awesome. It made me wish there was a way to have that playing in my SG base so we could have a "staff meeting" and prepare to rock a Pylon Raid!! -

Welcome aboard the Shade Sentinel! You are now in a starbase, 92 miles above Paragon City in Geosynch Orbit!
In this holo display you can see status on the entire base, plus an overview of its current configuration. More modules have already been built, we simply need clearance to have them Space-Folded into orbit.
Speaking of which, the room you find yourself in now is the what we simply call the entry way. This room houses the main Space-Folder, which can transport people and objects to and from predesignated coordinates on the planet's surface. It may have felt a bit weird on the way up, as we use less conventional, more sophisticated travel methods. You were not dematerialized in any way, simply folded into the 11th dimension, and unfolded here. You didn't move, so much as the location of your existence was changed!

Entrance 2
Entrance 3
Entrance 4
Entrance 5
Over here is the Shade Sentinel Hall, we simply call it the Hall. It's primary purpose is meetings, however we also have some recreational areas around the edge. The large screens on each side are hooked up to TiVo and every game console imaginable, though they can also be used for more official purposes. The Table has a holo projector in the center which can call up basically any data in the entire base's databanks.

If you come this way, you'll be in our medical facility, the Infirmary. When members are forced to activate their mediporter beacons, they can opt to have the space-folders bring there here instead. Bio-Synthetic Tissue Regenerators, a type of advanced nanite, tend to their wounds, though the process may leave them tired a moment, and they will probably need a few seconds to catch their breath. This room is kept extremely sterile, more so than the rest of the base, which is saying something.

Infirmary 3
Infirmary 4
Right over here, adjacent to the Infirmary is the construction bay. It houses all you need to work on your own projects, whether they be technological, magical, or otherwise. There is also a station here, which using a nanite based array, can temporarily augment your own natural abilities.

If you'll step through this short corridor, we will be on our way through to the crew lounge.
Corridor 2
Corridor 2
This is the crew lounge. It has a small bar and kitchen area, tables and seating to enjoy meals together, a sunken lounge, an arcane library, and plenty of plants for an organic and natural feel. The walls are a rather convincing wooden facade placed over the metallic bulkheads.
Lounge 1
Lounge 2

Let's backtrack a bit, through the entryway and into the more function oriented side of the starbase. The first room we come to is the Command Center. On the right side we have salvage logging and storage. You'll also note bottles of supplies such as anti-deuterium scattered about.. When we are cleared for more space, we intend to add a dedicated cargo bay, and then we will do a bit of remodeling in here.
There in the center is the Quantum Ripper Core, that's main power. It has a bit of a startup sequence whereby it taps zero point energy and then hyper accelerates complex molecules.. and bombards them with tachyons, causing quarks to rip away from the subatomic particles. This generates a lot of energy! And this is the Light Grade model! Why house such a thing in the command center? Well, the good news is, it can never explode, so it's totally safe, if it's destroyed, it will implode into an alternate dimension. The catch is, once it starts, it doesn't really stop. The only way to turn it off is to totally sap all energy from it at once. Our Heavy Grade Anti-Proton Cannon, mounted on the outside of this module, was designed to annihilate asteroids and small moons, firing that would do the job real quick!
Right there by it is the command table, it has a holographic interface and is designed to display tactical data from all over the station and its microsat sensor network. The monitors up there are primarily for maintenance, shields, and weapons control.
Command Center 1
Command Center 2
Command Center 3
If we make our way up through here, we find ourselves in the room that houses our power capacitor. This was installed to try to solve the problem with firing the Anti-Proton Cannon, as the QRC wouldn't be enough alone, not the Light Grade Model. This capacitor stores built up energy and then siphons it into the rest of the starbase. This effectively doubles our energy expending capabilities in the short term, meaning, with this, we can indeed fire the main cannon. Unfortunately, it would sap all energy from this and the QRC at the same time. The QRC would be fried.. and this? This probably would explode...
Capacitor Room 1
Capacitor Room 2
Capacitor Room 3
This is the main computer room. This entire room is dedicated solely to monitoring and maintenance of the main computer, housed in that equipment ditch.. no, don't step down there, it will hurt, trust me. There's an immense charge running through there. If I told you how many times more powerful than a human brain this computer was, you'd totally freak out, so I'll spare you. Good thing is, it has suppressors to prevent it from becoming sentient!
Main Computer Room 1
Main Computer Room 2
Main Computer Room 3
Main Computer Room 4
And Finally, there.. and there... are what we simply call the Exits. These are Space-Folders with only 1-way capabilities, unlike the main space-folder in the other room. There is monitoring and control equipment to preform diagnostics and make sure it all runs properly, as well as supply cabinets and racks, in case you need anything on your way out.
Exit 1
Exit 2
Exit 3
Exit 4
That concludes our tour of the Shade Sentinel, I hope you enjoyed yourself. In the future we will be adding a large combination space-folder and attack drone launch bay, as well as a cargo bay, opening access to missile storage, and more.
Have a pleasant day.

Okay, I wanted to share some fiction with y'all but since it is really long, I am creating its own thred, so if you are interested, it is called "An Ambassador's Story" and it is here in the Protector forum. Thank you all for the awesome place to share that is Protector!!

And Ex Libris came down from on high, and she brought forth for us some rules, written upon a screen of blue. And we she showed them to us, and we saw that they were good. And the masses of Protector smiled at each other, and a great joy broke out amongst us.
... or something.
[/ QUOTE ]
Let this be a reminder! For if we continue in our ways and she comes down from yon mountain to find us breaking the 10 Commandments of the Protector forum, she'll break our blue screens........then we can't play CoX....and there will be much sadness, and we shall have to eat Saint's travelling minstrels in order to have rejoicing.....
In essence.....let's be the very best that we can all be. Greatness resides in your hearts people of Protector!!! Let it shine like dawn's bright rays of light!! -
Hey so on the topic of what a great server Protector is ::brushes emo Spidey 3 hair out of face:: let me just share a great testimony in regard to this server ::/e soapbox::
A few weeks back I posted that I had not hit 50 yet and that I wondered when I ever would. Then I met you people! Whom, btw, I am very grateful for. Everyone was really helpful and told me what it took to get there. I was encouraged to check out Jello Shooters, which I did, and btw, you guys make me shoot the coke I am drinking out my nose mid-mish! Anyhow, I met Nishanna there and gave her some invention salvage she needed for a recipe. Ever since that night I have mished for nearly three weeks with her and her husband. My wife and I are now part of her SG and mish together with them every night.
So in closing, this is a great server filled with great people. We all have within us the potential for great heroism and great evil (hence CoX since some of us are villains and some heroes, and some masquerade as heroes even though we're villains GA!) May we continue in the heroic spirit that Paragon inspires in us all, and thank you all for simply being you!
P.S. Did I say you were all great yet? You Are!!! -

Ok, this is the last I'm gonna say here. IMO, this thread needs to be copied slightly edited and stickied globally like the how to get to test server thread. This is a global problem that needs to be addressed globally. As it is just being targeted at a small group that is small part of the problem, it seems to show the moderators don't know what's going on here, other than what they arbitrarily choose to read in their PM box. And in the end, nothing is really gonna come of this until those who continue to thread jack and flame others start loosing posting privileges. That's human nature and the internet for ya...
[/ QUOTE ]
Just checking, have you PM'd the mods? Or perhaps Ex? He seems to have taken care of the matter in a timely way and I am sure he would be more than willing to hear out your concerns with a sympathetic ear. Thanks! And now, back to Protector discussions!
