I have the same issue since the last patch. Long periods of zoning. Constantly crashing when attempting to zone into incarnate trial Lam.
Ultra graphic settings pre-patch, now performance with crashing and lag. All drivers are current. -
Coming this September, I'll be trying out a new MMO. So, I'm pulling out of the market while I'll I'm away. I want my excess inventory to be in the form of infamy when I return. Moving stuff to alts is probably the best alternative. I'd hate to see my billion dollar bids on lvl 53s vanish due to some patch while I'm gone.
-
I have close to 5 billion stored on one alt and nothing to spend it on. Eventually, I will level another level 50. Infamy means nothing to me but I consider it a game. I enjoy market flipping, one of the highlights of this CoH. I'm sure glad (as a semi-casual gamer), I don't need to run Raids and earn stupid Guild Raid Points to eventually purchase that 1 special item drop per raid. Market "raiding" is much better!!
-
Seriously!!!
It all started with a single lotg +7.5% drop following issue 11. The amount seen in that picture is just a small glimpse of my wealth. (The rest are IOs in builds or vg bins located on Freedom)
All money generated is from Market Flipping. That's a market build only, I prefer using my Thugs/Darks over bots/Traps for missions. So my bots/traps has been perma-parked at BM for convenient 5m log in checks during the week when time permits. The only money that flows, is from that build to others.
Not that it matters much, playing habits: 6-10h/week.
Apprx 2h gaming sessions 3-5 nights/week.
Gaming 5 nights/week is not the norm.
Missions, TFs, PvP. Finally, single account holder.
Despite all my bragging, I'm an example that proves you don't need to farm or play endlessly to earn the expensive stuff. -
Strange how we have to figure out solutions while Support just spams generic links that have no relation to the problem at hand.
Again complements to all in this thread! I'm in game and everything is working well, looks like my updater had "backup" attached to the name due to a copy done over 1 year ago. -
[ QUOTE ]
I had the same error, then discovered that my updater was not in the CoH folder with the rest of the game, and that it was named "CityofHeroes.exe" instead of "CohUpdater.exe".
Moving and renaming the updater to the latter, then launching it, fixed the problem for me.
[ QUOTE ]
I got the same error, and found that somehow my "CoHUpdater.exe" had gotten renamed at some point in the past to "OldUpdater.exe". Found that out by looking at the Properties in my shortcut. I renamed "OldUpdater.exe" to "CoHUpdater.exe" and now it's doing its thing just fine.
I don't randomly rename files, so I have no idea how that happened, but there it is. Thanks to the folks in this thread for pointing me in the direction it took to find the solution!

Appears to be working, Updater is now applying the patch!!
Thanks also goes out to the people in this thread!!
I did send my problem to NCSoft Support but they just spammed me back with useless information not applicable. So thanks again all!! -
All servers are now up, I start the updater and then it immediately crashes!!! Anyone else experiencing this?? Help & suggestions appreciated!
I get a windows error message stating:
"failed to rename C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater\CohUpdater.exe to C:\ProgramFiles\City of Heroes\CohUpdater\CohUpdater.prv"
followed next with:
CohUpdater.tmp has encountered a problem and needs to close . . . Please tell Microsoft about this problem, Send error Report? -
Republican or Democrat??
One thing is clear, the USA is at fault . . . end of discussion.
Now lets get back to the game. Not everyone here is interested in American politics. -

So this past weekend I was looking around the various recipes trying to find a niche to hit up for a short stint and stumbled across Respec recipes selling in the range of 60-80 Mil. That's more than enough of a disparity to make me happy so I put in a bid for 5 recipes at 62 million a piece.
I've been following the price and it has tanked with only one of my recipes being sold. While the prices have come back up a little today, this has been the low point as of yesterday.
I haven't given up on them yet so put in your high bids for respecs, people!I'm still trying to get into the billionaire club and selling the other four will give me a nice boost!
[/ QUOTE ]
Over 100 respec recipes were dumped on the market within a single night!!!
(1) Someone was brilliant and was sitting on a bunch. Then dumped them when supply hovering around 15 and demand at 80 million.
-OR-
(2) Someone is purposefully saturated the market to keep respec recipes lower in price
Call me crazy, which some of you will, but I believe that Professional Farmers are behind the recipe price drop. Just the shear volume dumped and saturation of the market is amazing. I've played the market, earned my billions, broke the cap, bought every purple IO and more, have 1b bids on level 53 recipes . . . but never seen anything so crazy!
Or maybe i'm just bitter because I'm sitting on 35 respec recipes myself . . . guess maybe I should learn from this . . . wait until they are back to 80m bids and dump/sell at 1 influence to max return. -

probably a transfer
[/ QUOTE ]
I doubt it was a transfer. Using salvage that is commonly flipped with 100 for sale and 466 bids seems highly risky. Although, stranger things have occurred in CoH. -
There should be a sticky thread for stuff like this: Whoops!!!
Sticky Keyboard??? -
1) How will the repricing of bases affect you personally?
Dramatically increase our purchasing power.
2) Will you dismantle your base to gain the additional prestige from the repricing?
Unfortunately yes. Please give ample warning prior to i13 going live, so I can dismantle.
3) How long would this process take you if you were to engage in this practice?
We have tons of storage, IOs, salvage, special event salvage. All of this will need to be placed into alts, players. It will take time.
4) What are the positive and negative concerns regarding repricing?
Repricing is long overdue, clearly broken and neglected since release. On the positive side, at least it's being addressed despite forcing the existing player base dismantle.
5) How will this feature affect you long term and short term?
No immediate impact. Possible implications with future content, such as base raids, IoPs being reworked.
Base Salvage Exchange to Invention Salvage
1) What is the negative effect on your base for this feature implementation?
(a) Limited security options to help prevent people from stealing.
(b) Rare salvage to build common items
(c) Limits for storage & bins. Just thinking about Halloween, Candy Canes can consume so much alone.
2) What is the positive effect on your base for this feature implementation?
If forcing the new player base with vgs/sgs to use the Market & Rare salvage to craft could place my VG at an advantage since we have billions of infamy to draw on while they are trying to farm enough infamy/influence to make a PvP build.
3) How long will it take you to adjust to learning this new system?
Straightforward
4) What side effects to this system do you currently see from transitioning the old to new system?
New players with sgs/vgs will be torn with using influence/infamy to utilize IO Sets (or even just buying SOs) or Base Crafting. (If I was a new player, I'd be very frustrated)
5) What security concerns do you have regarding this change?
More options to regulate. -

If your moving from Freedom... all I can say is BYYYEEEEEEE!!! I will not be moving from freedom, as it has been my home since I came into the game 2 yrs ago. Unfortunatly - a lot more people see Freedom as their "home" and will be refusing to move, then people who say - OMG! i can't stand it!
As for your suggestion that freedom is full of, I believe the word you used is "smacktards"... You tend to see more of it BECAUSE of freedom's higher population.
The reason, as was touched on previously, that freedomites believe that freedom is going to get MORE populated is because freedom has the reputation of not only being "The" PvP server- but also the "official PL server" and the best server to find a team. If you don't think there is a problem with freedom as is- go and try to play during peek playtimes. You will soon be crying different tunes.
I suggest that every other server make an advertising slogan as to why people should move to their server, because every1 seems to think that their server has more to offer then the other. I believe that the people of freedom will digress in this competition. Unless you wanted to see something like ~ Freedom, Come for the teaming- Leave with a disconnet from DB server!
[/ QUOTE ]
You should take some Ativan!!! Sounds like you are suffering from PANIC ATTACKS. Now, where to begin.
First, you do not represent the Freedom. You've lead great Hami Raids, but you do not speak for me! There are many, many "Freedomites" looking forward to server transfers. There are many players, such as myself, that have waited & waited for transfers as we filled up our server slots. Maybe you've managed using only 1 server, but many have not.
Second, lag problems?? Check out Protector, its always crashing and lagging and its a low populated server. I haven't noticed much a difference, even during a peak hour Hami raid, even when Hive3 opens due to population.
Third, the "official PL server". Seriously??? You need to check out other servers! Is all the unofficial powerleveling on other servers not good enough?
Fourth, I've always thought the Test Server was the "PvP server".
I know you enjoy Freedom, but you sound paranoid! It's not the utopia that you make it out to be. Seriously, there are reasons why not everyone has chosen Freedom as home. I enjoy Freedom because it's where my in-game friends are, but I highly doubt people are going to move here in droves. In fact, I'm betting there will be a small exodus of badge collectors, role players moving to a smaller server...if they haven't left already.
Relax, maybe if you played this game a bit longer and moved to another server due to lack of character slots, you would have a greater appreciation of this feature to stay connected with friends. As Lighthouse said, they will be monitoring server population and will be addressing issues that might arise.

I know Ex is not allowed to verify this, but it is strongly my impression that there is a very small number of people repeatedly hitting the "notify mods" button.
If I had to guess, I would probably say that (with a not-miniscule number of exceptions) the majority of reports are being made by fewer than ten people.
[/ QUOTE ]
Are you serious??!!! Just a few people???
I have seen hundreds of threads hijacked and the OP mocked when they asked for the jacking to stop. I've seen new posters, friends, veteran's and myself who don't normally post have our threads completely fragmented with crap and unreadable...and you think it's just a FEW people clicking notify?!?!
Protector forums can be very nasty, I'm sure there are MANY people that have been pissed off and willing to click notify..even if they don't post anymore...dont kid yourself...and I bet this number will continue to increase unless the problem is fixed. -

I would really appreciate OFFICIAL guides.
[/ QUOTE ]
I have not tested or read a single thread re: Issue #9 until today, and i'm completely lost!!! I tried reading TerraDraconis thread Guide: Introduction to Inventions 0.5, but it's still to complicated. I hate to admit this, despite having 7 years of university and college...I could use a guide with Illustrations, pictures mixed in with clear text. It doesnt have to be a printed version, online will do. Hopefully, there's a quick in game tutorial to get me up to speed.
I'm not suggesting your guide needs work TerraDraconis (and others), I just need something more illustrative. I'm not a huge video gamer, i've only played CoH, CoV, and Civ III, IV in the past 4 years. Maybe others can pickup on changes a bit faster due to more extensive gaming experiences...unfortantly, alot of the terms and descriptions seem foreign. -

Then polling existing customers is half your battle. Why not do it?
[/ QUOTE ]
Would you suggest a method that could create an accurate result? AFAIK, players aren't allowed to create polls via the forums....
[/ QUOTE ]
bah, no matter the poll there will be some group that will feel alienated from the event.
My vote:
If the PvPEC turns a FFA PvP Zone into a Teletubby Noob zone playing "Red Rover Red Rover" while singing "I love you, you love me" with PvE'ers....I say we go in terminator style and blow them away!! But for now, I'm just waiting to see what the PvPEC proposes despite all the flaws. -
[ QUOTE ]
im not a serious pvper and im in total agreement with sheema. you cant really knock the committee because you havent had the time, or havent taken the time to read the threads concerning the PvPEC. now....before you post something else that tosses negative generalizations at another group of people, take a deeeeep breath. the committee is working out the kinks. if you want to know what is going on with the PvPEC, information is being released slowly and you're going to have to find some time to read a thread here and there, just like the rest of us.
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree to a point. PvP has been around since Issue #4 and the best NCSoft/Cryptic can do is make a PvP committee??!!
If the devs do decide to revamp PvP and work out the kinks, i bet it wont happen until Issue #11 or #12. I dont have high expectations, even if this PvPEC committee pulls of a couple successful events. Besides, if NCSoft/Cryptic cared about PvP Events...they wouldnt dump this responsibility on the playerbase. They have created awesome PvE Events, they could do the same with PvP. -

hey i noticed you had one thing missing, which was fallout. well now you can say that you've meet a Rad/Rad defender that has taken that power. and while i don't get to use it that often (it's actually a target on a teammates dead body) it is an insanely powerful attack. it's AoE isn't large but it isn't to small either. i only get to use it a few times a week so i don't have precise numbers but against Freak Tanks/luits that were 32-33 (i was 30) it did about 300 damage to each and it easily hit 7+ freaks.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hey GreenDon, I have tried every power in the rad primary extensively but Fall Out. It seems like it packs quite the punch. How do you have it slotted? Are these numbers based on 1 Dam SO?
I like your idea of tp'ing a fallen member into the mob then using Fallout, sounds kinda cool!
(Except that part about your friend collecting debt, that is)
