Which is why you develop for PvE and PvP simultaneously.

Problem is, the devs dont have the manpower to create new content for both. I am sure they have lots of ideas they would like to do but they simply are unable to. For example, one of the devs posted that they wanted to do power customization a long time ago, but it was a huge job so they couldn't do it at the moment.

When you look at the % of subscribers that are pve players and the % of pvp players, pvp is such a tiny minority that developing pve is more beneficial to the game. At least on Champion most play pve

We're humans, we were born to compete against each other in some way or form. I think it's only natural we seek challenges higher than AI controlled enemies. Coming from a guy who loves PvE almost as much as PvP, I can say the old system was heaps better. I wouldn't mind PvP changes that are beneficial rather than harmful to the system.

I'm a n00b. Only been playing for a couple months. I'm coming over from retirement from Warcraft. I have to say in the Warcraft world, I was up in the air with PvP. I liked the occasional skirmish defending the cities and such, but widespread BG and Arena didn't do it for me. In Warcraft I wasn't that great in the Battlegrounds or Arena, but I could hold my own out in the world. Without money for the right gear, it's next to hopeless to get ahead. I couldn't compete with the nerds that have no life and can farm a thousand gold a day.

I haven't tried PvP here but intend to test the waters soon. I can't imagine that the bulk of the population here hate PvP. It amazes me that you wouldn't want to try your hand against another player.

I doubt my toon is very well equipped. I don't really have the enhancements I know I need. I've been learning my way around that. I can't make a judgement about this game until I've done it all. So far I have had a much better experience here than in Warcraft. Most people here are much more friendly.

I levelled my Warcraft toon to 80, found nothing left at the top. I think things here will be different.

Just wanted to put in my 2 cents.

PvP "nerds" don't farm gold/infamy/influence, they buy it from the Chinese.

What issue was pvp intro'd? How many bills got paid BEFORE pvp was introduced? I see many more faces in PvE content than when i go to RV. I've NEVER seen 200 people in RV.

Normal content is fun when you get a few people that know how to play and run through a toon. There are MANY types of toons to create and if they are played and not PL'D to 50, then alot of fun can be had. Some may live for PvP but not everyone does. There is no way to play everything possible in this game in a weekend to theose posters.

I've went in pvp zones a few times but without a billion dollar build, you can't just go in and enjoy yourself on a SO toon. While i'm not saying a SO build should be able to hang with one IO'd with purps, not everyone likes to take the time(or may not play enough to have the inf needed) to build their toons to a perfect PvP build. Not everyone can play enough to afford the pieces to create a pvp build, so they stick with their SO's and enjoy the other part of the game.

Not as many as have been paid since.

When lvl 1s can hang out and rp in pvp zones I will consider this comparison until then I will let the 40+ that show in Freedom RV speak for itself. Yes more people pve and pvp is a very small group, doesn't mean they are lesser people.

Same can be said for pvp.

No, you couldn't enjoy yourself. Which surprisingly says you have a pvper mentality to be the best. I can go in a zone with half enhanced with common ioed toons and have fun. To be successful though it does take at least some effort on your build(see: kb ios)

You do not need a multi billion dollar build to enjoy or even be successful. You need some basic investments and a little know how and practice. I have plenty of toons I pvp with half done builds or less than optimal. They are all enjoyable.

Quote:

Straight complete and utter bull ****. To make a top tier team or dueling build mayhaps. For something to jump into a zone or some matches with friends all you need is a bare minimum to be up and running.

Quote:

Honestly like I have already said a few kb ios pretty much make any toon able to be usable in pvp. This are not multi million dollar ios and take little effort to acquire or a very small bit of influence.

I am unsure why you even felt the need to come post in the pvp section as completely anti pvp as you come across. I will however say that passing the kind of judgment on a part of the game you obviously play very little kinda makes you seem like an ***. An unintelligent one at that.

While I can't think of a PvE example that shows a comparison, I remember back when there was an Open Beta event to test out the new zone, Recluses Victory. There were multiple iterations of RV due to the sheer number of people that came to PvP. As I recall there were more than a dozen (I wan't to say middle twenties?) RVs.

Good times...

I made that post because it was based on the OP post. Not one from you, Conflict. But thanks for disecting my post on YOUR views and not facts. How PvP keeps the bills paid? In comparison, do a search while in game and see how many people are in a zone, then look at RV, SC, or any of the others. Doubtful the numbers are the same. And it's not all about RP'ing either.

I can very esily get a -kb recipe but it does nothing to being debuffed, held, or flattened by an "uber" toon. Yes, it's about having fun, i agree but noone looks to go to a pvp zone to make multiple trips to the hospital or being ganked (which is what i see mostly in my experience anyway).

I'm not a pvp hater, but a realist.

The one character I've PvP'd with the most and had the most fun with is my EM/Nin stalker. Hit level 50 in i7 and has been wearing the same even level SO's ever since.

You do not need IO'd builds to do well or have fun. It helps, but is far from the biggest factor.

None of the PvP builds I spend most of my time on have anything other than -KB IOs (or in the case of my Mind/Emp, no IOs at all).

There are tons of facts in my reply. That's the difference between knowing what you are talking about and not.

Quote:

Because its part of the game. And quite a few people play because of the pvp only. And even more enjoy both sides and it adds to their game experience.

Quote:

In all fairness this is more stuff you shouldn't say without knowing what you are talking about. Go to a pvp zone and count the people, then do a /whoall. I bet the numbers are very different. The reason, a great many of pvpers play on hide. Its one of the reasons something asked for in the big list was a display of the true number of people in zone so people didn't always think it was empty.

Quote:

That comment was about AP specifically. And if you think AP on every server is not the busiest zone in general you are lying to yourself. And if you think its not mostly about people hanging out rping you are once again lying to yourself.

Debuffs are not nearly as nasty anymore. This again shows your lack of understanding of pvp. The only real threat is large numbers of people attacking you and heavy damage spam. Also some more info for you lots of "uber" toons are played by bad players and pretty easy to kill. Even this watered down version of pvp skill and practice matter more than build.

You sound like you have the soul of a fite clubber. This is exactly what pvper expect when they go to a zone. Have you considered breaking into pvp more slowly using the arena system. Maybe fight some friends and hone your skills. As far as the ganking thing goes thats how zones work. More than iekly one side will have the numbers. If you stay in zone long enough the numbers will swing and you will be on the oter side of it. Its very helpful to play on both sides of it to keep your perspective in check. I have never once in all my time of pvping talked or thought of making someones pvp experience unenjoyably. I have however thought about killing them and being better than them. If you didn't want to die by a player attack or if it makes your game unenjoyably most definitely pvp is not for you. You will die, even if you are the better player on the better built toon sometimes you will die. Even when you are better all around and have the numbers you will sometimes die, maybe even repeatedly. **** happens, try not to take it so serious. The only 'serious' pvp was on test and its long gone now, zones have always been about lulz and hanging out. Stop taking each death to heart you lose nothing by it and can only learn from each experience.

Since Laylyn started this thread 2 1/2 years ago, I'm not sure you should expect him to answer you now. (He pops in now and again, but last I heard, he PvPs mostly in WoW.) Since then, overall PvP numbers have dropped precipitously. If things keep going that direction, we'll get to see if he was right.

I don't want to speak for Laylyn about everything, but as someone who was in his VG on Guardian, I can tell you that he usually played a radiation/thermal corruptor. This was back when blue had both quantitative and qualitative superiority over red, and he died a lot. He died constantly. And I never heard him complain about it on Vent. All he cared about was doing something challenging with his friends, and PvE eventually stops being challenging.

Okay, I'm not aiming this at anyone specific. But since this subject refuses to die, there is something that I have to get off my chest.
I'm not going to say anything besides my own opinion and what I have seen in my own experience. So you can all take what you want from it.
I've PvPed a bit, I know how it works. While I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination, I'm not a total noob either.
I play a Katana/SR Scrapper (I can hear the expert PvPers groaning already...) Part of getting into PvP is the simple fact that, yes, you are going to die. People are going to actively try to kill you. That's the entire point of PvP. Kill or be killed. (Correct me if I'm wrong, please.)
While I could probably sit here and quibble about unbalanced ATs (which I /could/ say something about, but I won't. Thats not what I want to get into here) or 'uber toons' that have nothing but purple IO's, I'm going to touch on the one single thing that I personally think is the biggest problem of all time.
Player attitude.
It cuts both ways, really. If you loose a fight, you lose. Is whining about it in Broadcast going to change that fact? No. As it has been said before, stop taking every loss so personally. It happens. If it really bothers you that much, get out of whatever zone you are in for a while. When you calm down, you'll realize just how silly it is to get upset about it.
On the other hand (and I have seen this more then anything, sadly) is the verbal grief that players get from the winners.
'Hahaha! You looz! Get out of my pvp, noob!'
Now, I know that it's not a huge percentage of people that do that, but the few that do give everyone else a really bad reputation. It's hard enough for the person who's new to PvP to get used to things while getting ganked repeatedly by the same stalker, all the while having to listen to his crap talk.
(And no, that wasn't intended to be a jab at Stalkers. I was just using that as an example.)
People wonder why PvP is floundering, (although I personally don't see that, it's just something I keep hearing) I say that it has less to do with gameplay and more with the general idea that PvPers are a bunch of childish ***wipes who act like 12 year olds that need to have their parents punish them more.
There was one rather rude player a while back (I forget his name) that, after being asked to stop spamming the Broadcast Channel in RV with his crap talk, responded with 'Hey, I pay my 15 bucks a month. I can say what I like.'
Sadly, that mentality is what keeps more people away from PvP. They simply don't want to deal with the douchbags that seem to invariably go with it, no matter which game you play.
Now, does that mean that there are no jerks in PvE? Hardly. But for some reason, it shows a lot more in PvP.
I guess, all I'm trying to say is that the biggest problem with PvP is something that the Devs can really do next to nothing about, unless they want to get really totalitarian about banning people. (Which leads to a whole slew of other problems...)
Anyway, like I said at the beginning of this post. This is all just my opinions. Take it or leave it.

This kind of sums it up. I see the issues here are the same as in Warcraft. So you have more than just arena here? There are PvP zones, complete with Ganking? LOL

Talk about not enjoying yourself.. I used to have toons on a PvP server. I had a lvl 30 Blood Elf Pally. I was minding my own business, but in neutral areas, you're flagged and that's all there is to it. I was repeatedly ***** by this little punk 80 gnome rogue for like 10 minutes. Nothing I could do. I finally just stayed dead until he left.

Yes it's the nature of the beast. I'll never be really good at PvP. I had 80 levels of Warcraft to prove that point. I can be satisfied just to be a pain in somebody's butt for a time. LOL

While true, that’s not the full story.

If your trying to use this to show PvPs popularity then that would be like me claiming that Star Trek: TNG is the most popular CCG because there was a tournament in L.A.where over 10,000 people showed up to play.

And leaving out the fact that ALL the major actors from the Star Trek played in FULL Costume, and took on all comers, and signed autographs. It was also the night that the LAST episode of the TV show was being shown at this premeire event before being released to television. And did I mention the event was free?

The event your mentioning had Statesman, Miss Liberty, Back Alley Brawler, Positron and many other signature characters, being controlled by the major Devs and GM’s, fighting the players. It was the final night of the Open Beta test and thus also a fairwell thank you party for Beta, and any of the 150,000+ CoH players could attend for free weather they had any real interest in PvP or not. Even given all that less then 5% of the game population showed up for the event.

Likewise using your logic and the same event we can claim that RV is the most popular zone in CoH because it has had the most instances spawned, Yet such a claim would be good for little more then a laugh.

Nope, just responding to one person's sentence about not seeing 200 people in RV at one time while throwing a little nostalgia in. At best it can be used to show how many people are 'open' to a PvP setting. In order to fight Statesman, one must be willing to trundle across a heavily populated PvP zone.

Don't forget that due to the RV test, characters had to be given a level bump (to 40) in order to be able to participate. I am sure that there were many people there just to test out builds that they had never played before. (I know I did)

Though I am curious,
