Plugging Curse-Gaming.com for Showing Off Your Art
They've bought Lighthouse! Run for the hills! We're dooooooooomed!!!!
But.... DeviantArt is the most known place to show art...
DeviantArt > Everything Else
As much as I'd love to post game-related artwork at a gaming-oriented site, DA is my artwork home....
"City of Heroes. April 27, 2004 - August 31, 2012. Obliterated not with a weapon of mass destruction, not by an all-powerful supervillain... but by a cold-hearted and cowardly corporate suck-up."
Yeah same.. Although I can see why deviantart wouldn't be the best site to partner with
Scarf_Girls Official Kid Brother!
Screw that! NCSoft is actually doing something! This is a yay moment!
What's next? Huh? Are we actually getting NC involvement in the Co* community?
*shivers* Happy shivers. Woohoo!
I also vote for DeviantArt, it's my second home.
Its a comfy little place where I can stalk^H^H^H^H^H find you all
Thanks for posting this up Lighthouse.
Thanks for posting , im sticking with DA though im sure some might make use of the new spot
DA's a great site. But this is, at least, a step in a good direction, yes?
Maybe they'll do something with DA in the future, but they're doing -something-.
I'm sure that once I start actually drawing my friends here as their heroes, I'm gonna have to look into a more game-specific thing like this. For now like everyone else.... It's DA for me Been there for a couple years so I don't feel the need to rush out and get on somewhere else. But I probably will duplicate stuff there.
Two thumbs up LH for plugging this

Sticking with Deviant Art.
I don't see why I would specify in a gaming site, DA has a much broader range of people watching it, including comics artist, painter and various very nice guys who, on top of that, sometimes offer art for free or for trade.
Side questions: what are the surrounding legal issues ? Some fan art has been hosted here in a dedicated section of the CoH site since the beginning...and updated every 6 months, maybe twice in tree years.
What makes it impossible now ?
Yeah. Thanks for that Lighthouse! But I think most of us already have an established prescence on Deviant Art. Also it is a good way to bring non-gamers into the mix as well

... some of which become gamers. Face it, we're infectious.

Thanks Lighthouse.
I'm not sure I want yet another location to be placing my art, but at least it's a nod from Cryptic that we fan-artists are here.
Question for you, Lighthouse; you mentioned that having Cryptic offer a similar service has prohibitive legal issues... but I've long wondered why Blizzard hosts a huge fan-art section with hundreds of pieces in their gallery, while Cryptic doesn't have anything. Comics are inherently art-based... so why not have a section of the COH website that's dedicated to art? It seems only natural for a comics based game. 'Prohibitive legal issues' seems like an overly broad explanation.
If the answer is manpower, then I volunteer to help administrate and ensure pieces are proper for public consumption.
Keeping the fan-art administration at Cryptic allows you guys to retain some degree of creative and quality control, while turning it over to an outside source can (and probably will) result in strange or inappropriate pieces appearing that don't represent COH at it's best. In someone else's hand, you can't manage the presentation of blood, gore, or sexual content.
You don't have to choose between the two sites. Why not do both?
Thanks for the heads up Lighthouse.

It's not exactly choosing between sites, it's just most of us watch this forum and deviant art like vultures. Not to mention watching our envisionary forum. Basically it will be a pain in the butt to watch a 4th site.

I'm with Crestent on this one. I've made DA my home, keep half an eye on this forum along with a Victory RP forum, as well as the Envisionaries forum, and now with getting things organized with the City of Artists club, adding one more website to my limited surf time just doesn't seem doable right now.
Still, thanks for sharing the link, Lighthouse. I'm sure there will be people who have the time to make use of it
Yeah. I barely keep up with COH forums these days as I'm usually on DA more often :P Another site is just too much. And having to upload everything again, etc etc. What can I say, I don't like change :P
But yeah, if NCSoft would like an art community admin (like, make a real job? :P), I would totally apply for it. I DO live in Austin and I am in 'tune' with the art community and that would be like THE dream job for me right now
Remember that Deviant Art isn't the land of Milk and Honey everyone seems to think it is. There are potential copywrite issues that may arise from having NCSoft associate itself with DA to store fanart. Thusly, instead of trying to work out some weird deal and bring out the lawyers, they probably just skipped that step altogether and went with a site they can work more closely with.
That doesn't mean that DA isn't the best choice for all of you, just that it's not the best choice for NCSoft.

I second the nomination!
Weve been talking more with the folks over at Curse-Gaming.com and the features that their game portal has. Youve probably seen the recent article on the coming Hamidon revamp included in Issue 9. Besides covering a bunch of games, hosting a ton of game downloads and providing user community tools they also allow very easy to use uploading of images. Once uploaded images can be rated by other users and comments left. You can read more about Curse-Gaming here or get involved by setting up a free account here.
Ok, so why you may ask, am I plugging them? Well it has nothing to do with the fact that I think they are a swell bunch of guys. Rather, we can see that the services they offer are pretty nice as a platform for showing off your artwork. While Id love for us to be offering similar services here on the City of Heroes and Villains websites, the legal issues surrounding it make it prohibitive. So, our thinking goes, why not work with an affiliate site like Curse and spread the word of functionality they have to offer.
So, check them out and let me know what you think!
