I am listening to your ideas, but a Flashback system is simply not something we can implement in a timeframe you would all be happy with.

[/ QUOTE ]

Maybe I'm missing something here, but when the rubber actually hits the road, how much difference is there between a story arc and a task force? They are both nothing more or less than a sequence of missions.

The presentation is different, but the content is close to identical.

Given this, why can story arcs not be handled via a flashback system that presents them using the current TF technology?

[/ QUOTE ]

I think that's why many of us have wondered why we can't have flashback? It's already in the game for TFs. Apparently it would be too much work to apply the tech to every contact. Perhaps they could just use the TF contacts but add an exemp option for them. It would be an awkward fix but it would be quicker.

Basically you talk to one of the TF contacts, like Positron, and you are signed up for a task-force-like auto-exemp until you talk to him again. So you're level 15 for all intents and purposes until you talk to Posi again. And you can do all the 10-15 content that you may have missed before.

The tech is mostly there already. Just adding a 2nd option besides "agree to help positron" but treat it just the same as a TF for all intents and purposes.

Granted, the better system would be for this to apply to each contact in your list, and auto-exemp you for the duration of the arc, just treating each arc like a Tf.

If they're intent on keeping pool B, this seems the only reasonalbe solution. But in doing the flashback system like this, they would have to allow repeating of already completed arcs as well. If not, they're going to need to datamine souveniers. Flashback without repeating arcs would only allow my 50 hero access to Hollows, Striga, Croatoa, and Faultline. She did everything else on the way up. My villain 50 would have access to even less. 2 of the 10-15 contacts, 1 of the 15-20, and then I think she got every other one on the way up, except Viridian.

Personally I think they could just mix up the TF and SA rewards pools and get I9 out. But if them wanting to have pool B can finally get us the flashback system that we have all wanted for years, then by all means, keep pool b, and start working on flashback.

Pool b being finite and only tied to story arcs can't work. Only way to keep it tied to arcs is to give us flashback and allow repeating completed arcs.

Task Force: Every participant gets the end-of-series reward.

Story Arc: only the mission owner gets the end-of-series reward.

... fundamental difference number one.

Task Force: fully repeatable content.

Story Arc: once and once only per character.

... fundamental difference number two (and the one that most screws higher-level characters over).

Task Force: auto-Exemplar/Malefactor all participants, as needed.

Story Arc: once you outlevel 'em, they're gone forever.

... fundamental difference number three (and a pretty hefty one it is, too).

For the reasons Pax_Arcana stated, Story Arc Flashbacks would need to be treated like "Mini TFs." You should be able to visit any out-leveled contact and run their arc exemped to the appropriate level, locked into it like a TF until finished. In this case everyone should get the reward screen (also like a TF), not just the owner.

To keep things from getting complicated, it would possibly also have to restrict levels on the low end the same way TFs do, too ... to head off the problem of a level 15 being sked into a level 50's Flashback of a level 35 Arc, complete with high-level reward.

I wasn't too concerned about "Flashback" until now, but it's seeming like the only logical and complete solution to the Pool B problem, even if it's something they have to add after I9 goes live.

Please try MA arc ID 351455, "Shard Stories: Scavenger's Hunt." Originally created for the Dr. Aeon contest, it explores the wild potential of one of the City's most concept-rich but content-poor settings: the Shadow Shard.

Man... that sounds like a huge time sink to redo things.. that I've already done {edit: on that character already.}

Still here, even after all this time!

The devs said "No Flashback for you!"
The have said this with every Issue release.
They say "Roll an alt if you want to experience otherwise blocked content."
I don't see them relenting on this point.

A better solution than Flashback (for this specific purpose) would be to allow Mayhem/Safeguard missions to count as Story Arc completions, but still cap the number of total B drops you can get on one character at whatever number they want.

Alternately, I can see allowing infinite B drops from Safeguards/Mayhems in addition to Story Arcs if they instead limit how often you can get them. Put a 72 hour timer on them or something.

That way, people wouldn't be running them nonstop looking for 1% drops.

This all assumes that B drops were intended to be limited per character in the first place. If not, then it's no biggie how you do it.

Story Arcs I created:

Every Rose: (#17702) Villainous vs Legacy Chain. Forget Arachnos, join the CoT!

Cosplay Madness!: (#3643) Neutral vs Custom Foes. Heroes at a pop culture convention!

Kiss Hello Goodbye: (#156389) Heroic vs Custom Foes. Film Noir/Hardboiled detective adventure!

Well, kudos to the devs for figuring out a way to get people to play the Trials. Looking for a group to do the Hydra Trial gets pretty lonely sometimes....

Oh no, his basic style is very different and I think SuperMod (*fanfare*) was his attempt at locking/redirecting a thread with humor and without that style of his.

No, he's not Cuppa or Cricket and he never will be. No one else could be. Everyone is a unique person. His 'style' is just very different than what we are used to. And, I think our style, the humor and such, is something he's not used to.

But he's trying. That's more than some folks do and he at least deserves a little credit for trying.

It's still been a relatively short span of time since CUppa left us, and then Cricket right after... Oh he was destined to fail. Give him a little more time. Let him get to know us and how we post, our humor and such, and let us get to know him. We'll all meet at a middle ground, or fan run forums will be way more popular.

For all our BMW (that's a b-word, moaning and whining), the devs want this forum. It'll all work out one way or another. Eventually.

I understand being upset if you can't get your rare cause they don't back date drops....but I seem to recall a method to get old contacts to give you story arcs you missed.

Okay Doc,

A question for you and I already know the answer (hope I am wrong). I have a scrapper that just made level 44 and just completed her 26th story arc... there are a few TFs she can still do (mostly for NO exp) and a few trials. She has stayed in SG mode from inception at level 2 through 44 (earning the SG over 890,000 prestige) and making her hard earned influence by selling off the unwanted enhancements she gets. SO ... short of spending a fortune paying for stuff at Wentworth's when it open... how does she accumulate any of this "special" salvage?

Unfortunately .. unless you can tell me different .. the answer is She can't Right?

Fortunately I have lower level alts that are all in the same SG so transfering pieces to her shouldn't be to bad but it's a shame (for all of the older players with a slew of 50s that have done evereything and been everywhere) that there simply is no way, based on what you described. for any of them to get that salvage on their own.

Were always the good guys. In D&D, were lawful good. In City of Heroes were the heroes. In Grand Theft Auto we pay the prostitutes promptly and never hit them with a bat. Leonard

Just so we don't get confused: it's special recipes that drop from story arcs, not special salvage.

My question is what salvage will I need to make my security blanket...?

"the reason there are so many sarcastic pvpers is we already had a better version of pvp taken away from us to appease bad players. Back then we chuckled at how bad players came here and whined. Two units of Hamidon Goo, a scrap of Statesman's Cape, one dram of Hero-1's blood, and an ounce of Lord Recluse' toenail-clippings. Fresh ones, mind.

...

OH, and a recipe that only drops from a level 61-65 story arc.

Well, at least I haven't outleveled THAT one...
