Hey Iodine, while your points are valid, I would like to point out that it only takes one success to become a HUGE success. It's worth the effort to make console MMOs because if they get it right then just about every console in the country will play it. ( Of course I'm exadurating but you get the point )

You've been beta-testing MUO. We all have.

(not that that's a bad thing - I've been having a blast along the way)

Looks like the clock for CoX is ticking, even if some people feel that the game is moving forwards because statesman makes some politically correct posts.

Too bad, CoX has been great, but this company is investing the big resources/development team, etcetc on the new game. What we need to keep interest going is new content, but at this rate, we'll be getting 1 expansion every year and a half.

Of course, I'll be long gone before we get to that point.

Tell me, how many console gamers use keyboards to chat with their PC counterparts in an MMO? Whoops ... not many, huh? Nothing like trying to grow a community of superhero mutes. This is only ONE challenge in many to come because some propeller-head, bean counter decided to merge console gamers with PC gamers in an MMO.

[/ QUOTE ]

*sigh* And I think CoH is too quiet as it is now (not counting AP, and even then that zone is at times). Teams are quiet, with sometimes "GJ", "over there", "<buff> plz", messages, all of which can be pointed to and clicked on.

It may be a success, but the console crowd are pretty much my enemies -- since I'm a roleplayer on Virtue.

Sure, I like consoles. The people ON consoles are good for games like Halo, and FPSs... but I wouldn't want to play an MMO with them.

Generally, people that play console games tend to be about... under the age of 14. I'm not by any means saying that there aren't people older playing on them. I still play Halo and Saints Row on my console. And it's great for that.

But an MMO on a console? Ew. I mean, did you ever play Halo? Did you EVER listen to 90% of the people on there? Nothing but high pitched voices, cussing, and little kids who have some kind of power complex.

MMOs are no good for cross platforming.

I really can't imagine MUO doing that well. Sure it might sell a bajillionfofillion copies quickly, but it will lose players just as quick, I think.

I have a feeling Powers like Stretching, Climbing, Swinging, Shield throwing, Shapechanging will not likely ever be in CoX though they will probably be in the Marvel Universe MMO. I'm also pretty sure, that the Marvel Universe MMO will also have ponies and pie.

And keeeeeeping in mind that this game is going to be on the console.

I mean come on. It's probably going to look good but it's on a console.

The game just ISN'T going to be as BIG as CoX. I don't think they'll get the cool character customization that we have because its ON A CONSOLE.

It's going to look pretty, like every game on the 360, but lack the depth just like the rest of the 360 games.

I think you are judging it too quickly when there isn't even anything known about it.

I advise you to wait and see.

You may be right, but you may be wrong. If it hits it could blow up and be a game everyone and their mother plays. It could also do mediocer ( only spelled correctly). And the 3rd option is it fails.

The point is, it's WAY to early to start saying the game will suck or rock.

Point taken. I hope you're correct. I want very much for the DCO project to be successful, personally - as I grew up preferring that comic universe over Marvel. However, I more or less share ShinobuMaehara's opinion about console gamers in general.

My gaming experience suggests MMOs require more attention to detail, depth, and maturity to play than the average console player possesses. This plus the inherent lack of keyboard communication arguably places console gamers at a clear tactical & social disadvantage (at least until voice communication becomes more mainstream than it is at the present).

its highly likely its going to be offered on Vista as well - plus there is no reason why they couldn't easily add support for a peripheral.

Xbox 360 and Vista are new platforms - just b/c cross platform interop didn't do well in the past, doesn't mean its manifest destiny that will forever be true.

I love bug-hunting, I just wish the NC Soft GM's didn't knock me down when I reported them.

I have been paying attention, but do you know how they work this?

The computer can handle anything. The console can handle only so much -- so they build the game around the console then adapt it to the computer. So essentially, you have to look at the fact that it's a CONSOLE game, being adapted to the computer also -- not the other way around.

The consoles, regardless of if they're "next gen" still cannot handle as much as a computer -- they don't have the hardrive space. Not to mention, not all 360 users OWN a hardrive -- there is a core system out there.

I have a 360 myself -- I am in the next generation. I play Gears of War frequently with friends.

But, just because it has prettier graphics, doesn't do much for the memory availability -- how much memory does CoH/CoV take up right now on your computer, with the updates?

I'm asking because I'm not sure myself, but I know the hardrive for the 360 has 20 gigs of drive space minus the memory taken up for the 360's system files which already take up room.

I don't beleive MUO is going to want to take up more than 1/2 of a users hardrive with updates... so that leaves... what about 8 gigabytes for updating space?

Console games DO NOT match computer games on a depth level.

And this IS going to be a console game adapted to a PC game -- that's what they do.

Gotta disagree rather soundly.
1) Megabytes do not equal depth. Not even close
2) Consoles do more with the disk- the 360 drive can hold 5 gigs right there. CoH takes up 2.5 gigs on my system & I don't need the original disk. Content updates that use precached disk graphics need not be HUGE updates.
3) Updates: we already have 360 games that require a hard drive. An 80 Gig hard drive is on its way, and since the 360 is an EXTERNAL hard drive, players can swap em out as they fill.
4) Look at some of the highly-rated titles that are on both console and PC- many are critically acclaimed for "depth" of play, depth of story, or both.

Control- Here, we start to see the issue. Oblivion, probably one of the key console/PC crossovers last year shows how a very simple controller system can lead to complex gameplay- and translate OK over to a PC. Other games have done even better- KOTOR was available on console & PC, for example.

Controls DO mean we likely won't see the 10-12 box "spell bars" or interfaces that we see in mouse-based games, but consoles have had titles that had hundreds of maneuver options available to players with just a few button combinations.

It means a different control mechanism, not necessarily a simpler one.
