I like it, I doubt we'll ever see it because implementing and balancing it would be a major challenge but it's still a great idea. The one I'd like for my AR/Dev blaster is this (probably overpowered but hey, it'd be fun). It's sort of the inverse of the Warshade's Stygian Return power, you rez and provide a buff to nearby allies when doing so.

Once More Unto the Breach!

Things look bleak, you have fallen in battle and your allies are being pushed back. Summoning your last reserves of strength you stagger back to your feet to lead your allies in one more desperate push. There must be at least one ally in range to use this power.

Type: PBAoE
Recharge: Very Very Very Long
Ally Effect: +Damage, +Resistance (All)
Self: Self Rez (+20% HP/End per ally in range)

Hmmmm...

You know...This is actually a good idea...

A VERY good idea...

The only problems I can see with it being that...

A: This means squishies not MEANT to do insane amounts of damage now WILL be able to do so.

Example...

Petless masterminds will now be elevated from mostly cute and harmless to MODERATELY annoying.

And what about energy melee users?

Their damage potential will now be god-like. They will be able to go down from killing bosses in 5 seconds to killing bosses in 3 seconds.

PvP will become even more of a nightmare then it is now.

NPCs will start having their own signature powers, (more then they already have, I mean.)

But overall, I'd say this is an interesting idea...

Squishies that do insane damage? *points at blaster* you mean like one of those? They are glass cannons for a reason. a tank doesn't have much range but has insane damage capacity, a blaster has tons of range and damage but no real defense. so with that said. I must go blast something *Runs off screaming* "BOOM DE YA DA!"

Absolutely love the idea!!!! But what's the use if you can't use them in battle? I saw some posts saying that it would make some AT too strong, but their can be ways around that I think.. like Ultimus said, long recharge... and maybe blancing out sig powers for damage dealers so that they aren't just melee powers... i dunno. just throwing my thoughts in there.... BUT I definitley love the idea!

the signature power I hope would either be a combination of 2 or more powers from either your primary, secondary, pool, and epic/patron powers, or just a new power involving your primary/secondary/pool/epic/patron.

What I'm getting at for the first option, is that you could have a combination. For example, a Fire/Devices blaster: You combine fireball and web grenade to make incineration nets/webs that immobilize or hold a targeted area of effect people while dealing great DoT. So in other words, fireball that is High-Extreme DoT, immobilizes Target AoE.

The second option is simple but hard to animate. Lets take a plant controller for example. You could combine 2 primary powers to make a new one like the other, but the power has to be of the same type (primary, secondary etc.). Lets say a plant controller uses carrion creepers and seeds of confusion. Obviously you would not just use both of their effects, or otherwise your just compounding confusion and the number of creepers. So, to solve this you need new animations and a new effect. Lets combine the powers to make a "summon" that will grow a large plant that all foes within a medium range, are confused. The plant cant move, it cant attack, but it can be destroyed.

That's my new theory... but i know the devs will hate the 2nd option (at least the number of animations they have to make)

I think this is a good idea in general.

This makes me think of Epic powers

Careful thought would have to be considered though. The same way that epic power were. I have about 10 lvl 50 tanks several of them are relatively Unusable! My Inv/stone tank for example, really HAS to be used as a kind of an unbalanced scrapper because as a tank his life and endurance almost always goes down faster than it regenerates. I keep thinking that different tanks would be good for different types of baddies. However, that isn't really the case.
So with that said.
An epic type set up could be beneficial for these signature powers.

As a tank there are 2 basic philosophies in survival.
1. Kill all the baddies fast. or
2. be able to take lots of damage for extended periods.

In this case for example: Even though tanks are suppose to be able to deliver some damage. They should not be "damage dealers" So that leaves damage takers. In this example an Invulnerable tank might have 1 of 2 signature powers being
1. A rapidly recharging heal power. or
2. a massive boost to either defense or damage resist or both.

Something that resembles a granite tank (not in movement)

Although something cleaver like a "long recharge stun similar to the one that "Rise of the Phoenix" Deploys. Might be cool

There is another good example. since i mentioned it.
A stone tank with a signature power of better movement Maybe speed or super jump while rooted in granite.

A secondary signature power i would think should be something you can't get from an inspiration. Such as "Recharge"

Blasters are suppose to be "juggernauts" Definition as " an unstoppable force.
Since no blasters "really" meet this description i suppose there could be several signature powers that would be useful

I can Imagine some cool things for defenders such as a "Super full team Clear mind" or a "super full team adrenalin boost".
Ya this could be fun for defenders.

I can also imagine a similar thing for controllers except that a fire kin is already too much of a damage dealer. which controllers should not be.

Scrappers perhaps damage Maybe something that equals "rain of arrows. or a defense mechanism.

PB's and War shades would take some thought because they can be either blasters or tanks of a sort.

Well I hope something can come of this because there are some core deficiencies in almost all archetypes..
Some of which I would love to play and build up to 50's but are somewhat ineffectual or unwanted on teams or in battles.

Well Done Ultimus

Sooo like an epic meter?

You deal enough damage or take enough or affect enough people with your powers after a certain amount? And you can only use the power every hour or so would seem fair. The epic meter sounds good to me, we could make it an insane amount say like this...

Blasters: 1000 damage dealt per level.
Tankers: 1000 damage resisted/deflected per level.
Defenders: 500 uses of powers per level.
Controllers: Immobilize, hold, confuse, disorient, sleep, or slow villains for 1 hour combined per level.
Scrappers: 1500 damage dealt and taken/deflected per level.
Kheldians: Epic meter fills after 10 successful missions in a row.

Deflecting/dodging = 50 points per level.
lvl 1: 50
lvl 2: 100
lvl 25: 1250
lvl 50: 2500

This is just a rough sketch of what I had in mind when I heard about some bar or meter involved. I don't know how well this will work but feedback on this idea will be appreciated.

This might be a good direction except that the power sets are Highly irregular in end result. There are clearly "preferred power sets" And for good reason. For example there are like a Gazillion Fire Kins and almost no Bubblers If there was a good balance in power sets and archetypes it might work.

When the invention system suggested being able to "make powers" I was thinking about it being more like this. I was very dissapointed when I found out that we werent actually "creating" anything, we were merely purchasing a temp power with salvage.

My only concern is, if we were able to "create" powers, the devs would have to create lots of animations, lots of weapons, lots of powers, and then figure out a way that we can combine them into our own. I am hoping that the power customization system that is on its way will be similar to this.

Dont get me wrong, i LOVE this idea and i am dying to see something new and cool in this game. I believe that anything good does not come easy, so no matter how hard it is to do this, it would definately be worth doing. Good Idea.

Red, the issue with powers/animations/etc. is handled by this system.. to a degree. While it doesn't provide the code for stitching them together, it does provide a way for it to at least be easier.

All of that stuff would consist of pre-existing anims/weapons/powers/etc. and would each be a choice to make in the power editor. Pick power(s), animation(s), effect(s), and so on.. all from the interface. Then "developer magic" mushes it all together into a signature power and *BAM* you're off and running with a spiffy new power that you "created".
