Gauntlet and Taunt Auras don't work on AVs anymore
This is why I have stuck with EB's.
The few AV's I have fought, I really thought it was the aoe's hurting the team. Noticed it today on jack in irons. A poor lvl 50 controller was getting slammed screaming for me to taunt jack. I hit jack with everything, but ...
Looks like I have to respec in 'taunt', to not be a team liability.
If AV's are too smart to fall to punch-voke aka guantlet, does that mean they are stupid enough to fall for bad 'your momma' jokes from taunt?
more dev logic. Remember when posi was saying how he wanted to listen to the players more, and this was after he screwed the badge hunters for isolater for having a single minion spawn once every 2 hours or so (this is dev mentality of listening to your player base).
And I still want to hear castle tell us how uber fire tanks are!

Given that Taunt auras aren't sudposed to work and Punch-Voke has little to no effect (leaning towards none) that must mean that I'm trumping the dmg output of Scrappers and Blasters I've teamed with then.

as an unscientific analysis update:
my inv/ss tanker tanked eochai 7~8 times, and could keep agro without taunt. attacks used: jab, air sup, haymaker, & footstomp.
the only times eochai turned was during a rage crash, or when there was a spectral army about. taunt took care of spectral army's place on the hate list.
there was an elec/elec blaster who stayed in melee for thunderous blast, as well as a energy/energy blaster that stayed in range for total focus. I had a bs and dm scrapper, and ar/dev blaster to round out the offensive line. Various level of kinetics and radiation buffs/debuffs were present. No way in hell did I outdamage them all. The reactions of eochai after rage crashed were typical of punchvoke/gauntlet working.
I don't have the opportunity to fight many av's/gm's with my tanker, so I don't have a lot of data to present. Though, I'm inclined to think if there's an agro problem, it's with specific monsters/villain or with specific powersets.
edit: no commentary on jack in irons, since I usually spend half my time "terrorized" and don't attack much.
It's possible this Eochai (as opposed to the one in Croatoa), since it was created 2 years ago, doesn't have the explicit immunity to gauntlet and/or taunt auras.
It would be nice to get confirmation on that.

the one in croatoa was no different (fought him just before the event). Although, the one in croatoa wasn't created 2 years ago either.
Interesting.
Note that I did zero testing on GMs, and never noticed one way or the other because their AoEs are so massive that aggro control doesn't feel like it matters much.

A new twist to add to this thread, which explains the results seen by Dersk against Eochai: the inherent taunt of Pool Powers (Air Superiority, Kick, etc.) works on all critters for tankers. Brutes do not get any inherent taunt from these powers.

So, Tankers, let it be known, you really don't /have/ to take Taunt. Just skip your secondary and be Power Pool Man. I'm sure that's the better choice.

just a note, in case it hasn't been mentioned.
the original poster said he hadn't tried fire/ tanks yet, I can confirm that it is broken for them. ran into that Devouring earth AV earlier today, and watched in horror as he left the rest of the mob that I had complete gauntlet/BA agro control on and go smack the kheldian on the team.
BA, combustion, and FSC all fired off before the teammates started to attack, and the AV wasn't even interested in me.
So....to sum up....the system working precisely the way it was supposed to was considered OVERPOWERED!? And now to "balance" it they made some AV and GM fights completely random? As in, if the AV hits teh wrong teammate, (empath, for example) your screwed, and if he just "happens" to go on a warpath against teh scrapper or something, you still win?

to sum up, agro got screwed and dev's never realized it. there hasn't be a red name specify what isn't as they intended, but it can't be working properly as it is.
[*]taunt, brute auras, and tanker pool attacks pull agro[*]tanker auras, tanker 2ndary attacks, and all brute attacks don't pull agro.
it's so completely random it's comical.

It has been this way for a loooooong time, it's nothing new. Certain levels of enemies are simply too smart to fall for the old "I hit you, so now you hate me" level of taunt.

Luckily for me my method of aggro control is an extremely violent beatdown of the AV so they don't care as much about Blasters and Scrappers

Considering that you can get an attack with just about every movement pool you can get an attack chain of Brawl, (Flurry/JK/AS), and (Boxing/Kick) and still be a meatbag. Once Vet awards come out you can be the whiffinator using Brawl, Flurry, Boxing, and Sands of Mu (Shadow Maul). I'm going to have to have a Macro saying calling them all sorts of annoying things like...

I really wish there would be an official stance on what the Tankers role in AV battles is. As it stands now the tankers role is "Take the alpha and spam taunt".
I get a feeling that Taunt-bot role is "working as intended" because a tanker doing nothing but spamming taunt seems to be part of the devs balance as shown by us being unable to hit moving targets for 3-5 months.
