Jazz used to be called Jazzbot because of his immediate and always same "welcome to the forums" posts.
Beta-wise, I remember staying up REALLY late, since the beta testing times were 2-5am for me. Even worse that it was during my graduation...
Yankee Daring sadly never made it into the live game.
The Cow SG was called the Mad Cow Posse. I remember them coming online and broadcasting "MOO!", as a response to Phantom's "BOO!".
In only a month it'll be 5 years full of CoH memories for me. *sniff*

integration being a click, resilience being a toggle, superspeed giving capped defense but a massive -acc, fold space for grav trollers, and arctic air acting like steamy mist.
I wouldn't mind getting that version of superspeed back.
I remember...
...when it was June '04 and I decided to make a MA/SR scrapper, based off of a RPG character I had made a decade before. Even at 50, she's still my number one character, and I often bring her out of 'retirement'.
...when my first social interaction was when I heard the term 'No KSing', while attempting to apprehend a Skull in KR after a defender initiated the combat. He 'bubbled' it and I no longer could do anything to it! I thought it had meant 'No kissing' or some variation. After remembering hearing a broadcast conversation on 'kill-stealing', I figured out what it meant and promptly left. What a n00b I was!
...back before Suppression , when I could pinball myself off of one baddie to the next baddie to the next baddie and so on, keeping them out of melee range of my blaster SG friends, by using the knockback in Crane Kick (because we had no control via controllers/tankers- and don't ask me why... )
...getting Elude for the first time, and Superspeeding from the Talos tram, past the magic store and natural store, turning left into the grassy area, over the rock and fence and into the parking lot on the cliff overlooking the ferry area, jumping out over the cliffside, clicking Elude and getting ecstatic at seeing the backflip animation complete a few seconds before landing, and then continuing on towards the ferry! Complete utter joy!
...reading about the tanker nerfs coming with I5 as it hit test, and maddingly trying to get my tanker to 50 before they hit live. 2 weeks to spare!
...when the mini-manual came with the game and it could fit snugly into my pants pockets! Sneaked many a peek at it during work hours, even though it was outdated the moment I bought the game. LOL
...remembered when I thought Fold Space would be a cool power to get whenever my controller would get to that level. A Sing is much better, looking back!
...when kiosks didn't do anything, and I kept asking people what they were for...
...how ecstatic I was getting my scrapper to 50 just before XMas '04. What a wonderful present to myself!
...being able to have 4 stonies out at once and actually solo a mish.

...not sleeping during the 3 day headstart.

I remember when I was checking on the Hamidon to see if it spawned correctly. We had to keep an eye for spawning errors at the time. Sadly, I forgot to hide. It couldn't kill me, so my screen was COVERED with de-buff icons....probably about 30 full rows of them. It wouldn't let me go. I had to log.

I remember when the AI for mobs either crashed or went to sleep. The SG I was with could have just breezed through the missions, but boredom won the day so we sent in a bug report (like a lot of others, I reckon).
'Oops, I ran around a corner and there's a embalmed there!'
*seconds later*
'Ummm, I've been hitting it, but it's just sitting there....'
I remember how I thought when I1 came out that they'll be new costume items to go with the costume slots that was introduced.... Sure would have been nice if there was something new at the time to actually have some use from the new slots....
I remember how people thought it was weird that mobs referred to passing/attacking heroes as 'Capes' when nobody, not even signature heroes, had them. It was almost like a taunt or a plain insult to hurt the heroes mentally since capes weren't offered until I2.
I remember having to log off and try again when it came to the 'Defeat x Contaminated' missions in Outbreak because the generation for new mobs was set so low, and they needed a lot of space between the generation points and the players in order to appear.
It was a ghost town most of the time because of that. One thing for sure, it forced a lot of people to team up when they didn't know how to do that (at least all the ones that were trying it out with their first character; more than a few couldn't get past tutorial because of this)....
Good thing badges didn't come along until later or good luck with trying to get the badge when it wasn't hard for other people to inadvertantly clean the map.
i remember accedently rotating my camera 4 degrees off axis and i couldnt figure out how to get it strait again and even reported it as a bug in beta.

I remember when -resistance powers were based off the mob level not the caster level.
So a level 40 Rad could go in Perez Park and throw EF on a Hellion, then hit him for 4000 damage.

I proceeded to make a character just to run around Atlas Park annoying people. So I went up and started hitting on a character in l33+ speak until my brother saw me and said "That's a dude."
... I remember the first two weeks or so of CoH being a haven of Punisher clones because the Punisher movie came out around that time.
... I remember remaking my original character (Plot Device) but forgetting to delete him first. So I had to pick a new name for my character at the last minute. The only name that came to mind was Friggin' Taser...
... I remember how fun and chaos of sewer teams in the early levels. What we have now in Atlas isn't the same as it was back then with 100+ people in the sewer at the same time.
... I remember the huge rush of heroes hanging out at Icon with issue 1. I also remember the bug where you couldn't leave a mission if a zone had multiple instances, causing much debt.
... I remember the "nerfs" to fire imps and phantom army in issue 2 being the death of all controllers EVER according to the forums. That totally happened.

I remember being really low on my blaster and watching this one guy (I forget his name) role play that he was "evil" and was bring his minions to slaughter the heroes. In effect he herded a boatload of baddies, had a few high emps on standby to buff the "lil kids" and then just let the kids slaughter all the baddies for the sheer fun of it. Those evil encounters were some of the funniest things I have ever seen.
Thanks, NC Soft, for closing my favorite game ever without warning and with plenty of life still left in it, and thus relieving me of the burden of EVER wanting to buy, try or even hear about another game from your company. Am I the only one who still gets annoyed at the long ago changes to the jumping code?
At release, any jump would essentially provide upwards thrust until you let go of the space bar or the jump timer ran out. This meant that if you jumped against a ceiling it would kind of hang there for a time before you descended. They changed it so you "bounce" when you hit an upward obstacle.
Although jumping into the ceiling was a little weird, the old code basically prevented you from getting hung up on obstacles. If you hit a fence when you tried to jump you wouldn't just bounce back to the ground. Your upward movement would end but not your thrust - you could strafe and continue the jump. Now when I am tired I invariably try to jump over some obstacle and get annoyingly hung up on it.
I find it amazing that the change still bugs me so many months later.

...when Storm Kick rooted you in place for what felt like five minutes, which was annoying as f-k when you missed the attack.
...The first time I kicked an enemy off a rooftop. That still hasn't gotten old.
...The game being referred to as "City of Blasters".
