I'd be more worried about if influence is not doubled as well.
If it's not, I forsee a lot people complaining about how poor their characters are when they are leveling faster and needing to replace enhancements sooner.

On the test forum, Cuppa already said the inf and prestige would also be doubled. Which is good since I have a few alts that are dirt poor.
All I gotta say about that is ... DAMN !!!
I won't be able to play after this weekend ... For the next 3+ weeks.
Figures ... The last event I got a decent look at (meaning I got to play for like 2 days worth of it), was the Winter Lord Event ...
Their scheduling BLOWS !!!
Edit to add: And it really torks me off that I have a level 39.25 Blaster that REALLY could use the double exp to get to 40 and more content again ...

[ QUOTE ]
why?
[/ QUOTE ]
Probably because the devs took notice of how popular the PvP events were on test where you make a character and instantly leveled up to 40.
Obviously the devs wouldn't let us instantly make level 40s (at least not yet, perhaps they might one day), so this appears to be a compromise.

Also they are hoping to bring people back to try out I7 for anyone who didnt, get people to resubscribe if they shut off after only 1 month of Coh after I7.
Boycott Ncsoft if they close down Coh.
I really don't see what the people that are complaining are freakin crying about?
Whatever, I'm stoked that the whole weekend is double exp and I'm gonna milk it for all it's worth. I was just thinking about how slow it's been lvling up since I came back after a very long hiatus. I read this thread and it brought a smile to my face. And cudos to the person who was positive about it being a balancing act that will even the odds between heroes and villians insofar as lvls are concerned.Even if that isn't the case, it's always good to see someone be so positive, specially on an MMO board.

6. To generally bump up subscriptions, and to re-capture departed subscribers.
This isn't for us at all. They've already got our money.
The Issues had previously been released quickly enough in succession that players would leave and unsubscribe and only return for the Issue release. They'd stay for a week, check out all the content, and un-sub again.
Issue 7 took six months. There was nothing in between that really dragged back previous players so they released that "free weekend!" thing and got back a few veterans who couldn't resist the temptation.
Double XP Weekend, if done every 2 months or so, might provide the impetus for subscribers to hang on, or at least to return periodically.
The people who read the boards know it's all about the journey and not the destination. The developers are smart enough to know that people will still pay through the nose for a free ticket to the end of the line.
Hey, it's the free market: if they're doing it to grab more subscribers, more power to 'em. I'll certainly be there.

July 21st is my birthday!! They are doing it for MEEEEEEEEE!!
.............hahahhahhahahhahahaha- Man even I don't buy that one.
So I agree with Hertz and #6 reason. Along with "throwing us a bone" for alot of things that have bitten the players in the butts.
Prolly actually all the reaons given on some lvl.
'cept mine.

1. People liked the PvP events on test and this is the live compromise.
2. To balance the Cathedral of Pain trial with villains.
3. To recover from the PR disaster the layoffs were.
4. To compensate for the global bugs.
5. To try to retain some players over the weekend during Comic Con, most likely the BIGGEST convention that would hit our playerbase all year.

Question: Is there such a thing as MMO sweeps weeks, when some organization determines official player figures? Maybe it's that week.
Anyway, I gotta think this was NCSoft-driven and the devs are cursing them out up one side and down the other. After all they've gone through in their quest to balance the game, they're going to break it for a weekend.
The main thing this will really accomplish is buffing player numbers for the weekend. It'll affect leveling rates in the lower levels, but because levels take longer as you go up, it won't affect the higher levels as much -- or am I missing something in the way it works?
Will it, in fact, do much to increase the number of characters that get to 50? It'll reduce people's time by two days of weekend play. I wonder.
Nonetheless, it seems like it'll be fun.
I'm still in no hurry to get my main to 50, not with all the bugs that still plague CoV from level 40 onwards. If the next patch on test, which fixes a lot of them, is not up on live before then I'll be spending time on new alts instead if I play at all that weekend.
Hmm... Yeah, seems like this is an NCsoft thing, and they seem to be doing it for other games, not just Co*.
Logged onto Guild Wars today, and see that theres a weekend event coming up, were you gain double faction points that go towards unlocking skills.
Hmm...

damn, if this is true, damn. Of course they have to have the double xp weekend when i will be at Comic Con that weekend.

What possible purpose does this serve? Was anyone really having a PROBLEM getting enough XP in the first place?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes. Advancement seems too slow to me (it took 6-8 hours to get from 33 to 36 :P ). I'd increase it by more than x2 if I had my druthers.
Judging from advancement on Test with the x2 XP last time they had it, it makes post-30 levelling semi-tolerable at least.
Goodbye may seem forever
Farewell is like the end
But in my heart's the memory
And there you'll always be
-- The Fox and the Hound
I'll need this in Winter Lord form.
Or some kind of glowie mission that rewards XP anywhere.
Or a nearby dumpster to drop enemies into. Freaks, Wolves, Warriors, Ninjas... I'm indifferent.
Or a "Burn"-power that works.
Or some sort of Hive... Spire.
Or a drill... let's call it a "Mole" Machine.
Maybe then this will be familiar to me!
Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.

This event would be a perfect way to build influence for poor heroes/villains: cap yourself in debt, earn regular xp and double inf.
Of course, I'd personally rather the double xp

Rumors and lies!
There were so many problems with exploits that the devs regularly remove elements from the game that allow unbalanced XP gain. Remember the Winter Lord fiasco?
I think the announcement applies to the test server.
[/ QUOTE ]
And you'd be right.
The announcement on our forum.
[/ QUOTE ]
Um, you'd be wrong.
The announcement from CuppaJoe is for this weekend for the test server, but the (unofficial) announcement for the live server is for the weekend of the 21st...

Dangit .. I almost hope it's not true .. I'll be at the Comic-con all that weekend. I will miss every last second of it. ;-)
Edit: And I see I'm not alone.. ;-)
My memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

This is great. I can finally get Dirty Leprechaun out of his late 30's rut.

When is it not? When somebody asks for a link to information about I8 or next year's box expansion, do you (the metaphorical "you") shoot a link for anywhere here or on the main game page? NO. You shoot em a link to to a third party site.
If this game had an ad budget, this site would be the only stop for CoX info we'd need. However, they don't, so they make almost everything a 'scoop' on a third-party site. It's a bit savvy, but a bit cheap too. Ya do what ya gotta do, though.
[/ QUOTE ]
What I find mildly amusing is that the third-party site (the MMORPG.com one, at least) refers the reader back to CoH/V.com "for more information", which has, as far as I can tell, absolutely nothing on the main site about it. (So far.)

Och~ *slaps forehead*
Of course!
That didn't even occur to me..
Viva quadruple Inf weekend!!
*waves flag*
This event will rock. I have several characters who level painfully slowly since they're team-oriented and it's occasionally tough to find a team. It's perfect for them.
I mean, it's not like I don't KNOW how to build and play my characters. If I had my way about it, the two I'm particularly going to work on would go directly to level 32. I want all this "ground-laying" I'm doing to pay off sooner rather than later.
Guess I'll use the weekend to start up a Thug mastermind I've been thinking of doing.
'Lo, there do I see my father.
'Lo, there do I see my mother, and my sisters, and my brothers.
'Lo, there do I see the line of my people, back to the beginning.
'Lo, they do call to me.
They bid me take my place among them.
In the halls of Valhalla, where the brave may live forever.
Amalgamate will be level 45. For once, I'll actually be able to play with the big kids! I've got a Dominator I'm trying to push to level 22, and a Stalker I want to get to 34 really soon, too. I'm hesitant to run Apis Queen, though, since I don't really want to blow past any of the 40-45 content my first time through. Guess I'll just take the opportunity to zip some of my hero characters through the decidedly more boring CoH content.
I wonder if the devs had a running bet on how many people would actually complain about this? I guess it's true that no matter what you do, some people absolutely cannot be pleased.
Arc #41077 - The Men of State
Arc #48845 - Operation: Dirty Snowball
Cool cool. If the baby cooperates and let me play at all, I may be able to get a good push on getting my main to 50. Or maybe I'll just powerlevel my Illusion/Kin controller to 18 and finally get Phantom Army after 2 years. Or maybe I'll get my new Mastermind enough influence to afford some DOs.
Oh the possibilities. Too bad I probably won't get much of a chance to play
My goal over the course of this is kill a purple lt. at level 1 and see if I can get an entire level from 1 kill.
Figures. I'll be locked into the local Warhammer state championships from Saturday morning through to Sunday afternoon...
