I'd like to echo remarks from others that it is rude to be doing this on the same weekend as the San Diego Comic Con. The con is thursday to sunday and leaves no time for the event. Maybe those who go to the con should find the ncsoft booth and let them know.

If not for the Paragon Times article at the time, you wouldn't have know it was going on for over a week, outside of the occasional ice patch. 'CoH needs weather!' threads made a big comeback around then.

Me too. 
Because of the WL event, rewards for monsters in general were overhauled, and I believe it was at this time that the first limit for the max % of level xp you can get from a single mob was introduced. Thinking more about it, I may have mistakenly lumped in the 'level range in a team' limiter that occurred around that time but was directed at pre-existing powerlevelling strategies. My nigh-useless head for meta-game history has its limits. 
For much of 2005, it didn't matter about the median team level, but whether you were within a certain range of the highest teammates' level - "lvl 42 bridge plz?". The median thing is a fairly recent development.

The devs can give us free pony rides and candied apples via UPS on demand, but people would claim it's doom because they'd rather ride go-karts and get caramel apples. Or they are allergic to horses and candied apples hurt their teeth. Or they heard that the candied apples are better in WoW and the horses have shinier hair in Guild Wars.
Some people complain about what the game needs. Other people complain that the game is fine and doesn't need anything. You cannot please both these groups of people at the same time.
It's an interesting casestudy for Pysch majors.

Prestige, Influence and Experience.
Now, for those who are bothered by this I offer the following:
If I were a dev here, double weekend would be double exp to get levels, double influence/infamy to buy inspirations and enhancements and to change difficulty, and double prestige to buy stuff for our bases.
What? I would. And I'd have MotDs everywhere saying, "Go outside, but put on sunscreen/sunblock first."

Not to be a total wet blanket, but there really was only about 4-6 good days when the event wasn't anti-climatic or dominated by nasty spawn-camping. At the end, it was a huge distraction from actually playing, with half the playerbase pretending to be a mediocre Chinese powerlevelling service. It's telling that subsequent events have never come close to reproducing the haphazard design of it. The past Holiday event was much closer in intent to what the devs wanted and much less disruptive with lasting after-effects.

I just want to say one good thing though. Some of us got mightily bored with the WL game and we found each other for some great teams.
It was my first time on an AV team (Dr. Vahzilok) and it was all because of the WLs. Well, getting sick of them anyway.
And my level 25 blaster (at the time) was able to clear his debt.

Good thing the characters I plan to play that weekend are designed to opperate in a healerless world. More room for Rads, Kins, Darks, FFs, and Sonics! I just love those guys!

my take is tht it is a PR event so that while they are at comic-con ,they can tell the reporters tht they are running a event for the subscribeers as they speak.after all the bad press they have gotten they need some good press, double xp is fine but Iam in no rush ,my first 50 took 700 hours my second 500 and my lvl 47 hero abut 400 so far, to me lv 50 is a journey not a destination
