How about a mission, that gives you the temp power, but instead it is permanent so you can play with the ball anytime you want!

This thread reminded me of the time the Alliance of Heroes had a party in Atlas park and one of the events was Hellion soccerball. People who signed up would create a kinetics defender with the repel power and put on a team. A street in Atlas was chosen as the field and lamp posts were the goal posts. A hellion would be tp'd onto the street and the teams would try to bounce the hellion past their respective goal posts. The only downer was sometimes the "ball" would get deflated from getting bounced too many times.

So, why not put the repel power on the red ball? But, don't repel the hero from the ball, obviously. Repel the ball from the hero? In terms of movement and all that, the ball would act like the repel power was applied to it.

*shrug* just a thought...

A BRB would be so much fun, I'd love to see this idea take off. So when can we expect the Giant Tape Worm? Issue 10-11 maybe...

Castle, I have heard that there have been some developers who have worked above and beyond normal duty, even possibly on their own time, to get some things done for the good of the game and appreciation of us, the consumers. While I would not ask this of you or anyone directly, may I ask if bribary is out of the question?

On the real though, what would it take to get the BRB moved up on the priority list? Do we as players need to start some kind of petition? should we write letters? If we rally enough support and demand for the BRB, would it make a difference?

Something else to consider. Are there any other applications that the engine which would drive the BRB could be applied?" Improved knockback physics, improved destructible objects in mayhem missions perhapse?

Give the ball a kind of reverse repel so that if anything touches it a pulse from the reverse repel knocks itself back?

I'm wondering if they can make a power that only affects the BRB. or a knockback power Kind of like snow ball, but only affecting the brb?

Okay...potentially brilliant idea here...

Not sure if this was mentioned, and I'm also not sure of the particulars of _Castle_'s statement, as the computers at the comp lab at work are slow. (A million dollar casino and they can't afford anything better than a Dell POS??)

How about having the BRB as an Arena match?

I think there was some mention of the BRB entering ones with enemies and whatnot, and that would cause some problems, understandably. However, if the BRB was part of the Arena, that would effectively kill two birds with one stone.

The BRB could come to life, for one...and the Arena would actually get USED secondly.

Imagine it...entire Supergroups would form sport teams for Arena BRB matches. There would be massive tournaments on every server. It would be the equivelant of football season.

Oh wait I remember. Those are the beginnings of PvP that caused all the Nerfs to PvE. I wish I could burn them down and roll back everything to I3.

Ok, I admit I'm jumping in the middle here so might have missed something, but this doesn't seem right. If physics were all on the client side and just visual, then my blaster wouldn't be able to knockback the MOB out of the melee range of my scrapper teammate.

Knockback existed before the addition of the physics code, so I would imagine that it has little to with the physics code and is fairly limited in scope. I believe the new physics code is more to do with the client receiving a call for a client-side effect like the flying embers, rubble, Grav/Repel objects, and the like being represented. The effects likely look a little different on two concurrently-running computers even if they have the same graphics settings - which would make it difficult to make the original BRB idea feasible.

I don't get it. If I can knock a minion onto a teammate's tar patch, how is that 'client side physics'? Are my teammates not noticing my brilliant play? Is the minion not debuffed by the tar patch for the whole team? Why is the BRB different?

Not sure if anyone answered you but here is a logical deduction as to what's going on and an answer to your question.

You hit Creep A and send him flying towards your team-mates tar patch. The server then predicts a path that Creep A flies and tells the client to apply whatever physics to his flaling arms and legs and body as he impacts the ground. The Server also tells everone else who can see Creep A flying to apply said physics to his flight. Everyone probably sees his arms flaling around a bit different, kind of like how the Gravity Power Propel creates different items for everyone to see when used.

If CoX ever gets a real physics system, not this ragdoll crap, put into it, then the ball would be possible. As it stands, CoX doesnt have physics except in a few places, like ragdoll (poor ragdoll, imho) and certain particle effects. Capes are probably physics, but then it might just be a loose collection of IK bones that dont respond to anything but each other.

Take the Source games. they all have full on Physics to do all kinds of neat stuff, but unless your multiplayer server has the Turbo Physics enabled, its all client side as well.

Just voicing my support for the BRB -- Never give up, people!

The knockback rules are enough for this, just give us the ball! Next to the point where the ball spawns, have a little shop that sells a no DMG knockback power that works only on the ball for an hour.

Come on! It can be done! You don't even need to get a 3D artist to come with a model or anything -- it's just a Big Red Ball!
