The original strategy guide was essentially based on a design document. So it contains details on a number of events - particularly trials - that were never actually implemented, such as the Faultline Dam trial.

[/ QUOTE ]

The Dam trial was playable for a very short period. I never did it myself but I believe part of the requirement was for a team between a certain level in the same SG.

The trial itself was said to be rather buggy and involved Freaks attacking various objectives in attack waves. This technology was later transfered to the Respec Trial.

This is a song about a super hero named Tony. Its called Tony's theme.

This is not true. The Faultline trial was *never* implemented. There has never been a trial or task force of any kind in Faultine - not on the live servers and not in beta.

I remember all the "Save Sally" threads. Was Sally changed from the test server to live? Seems like I read somewhere that she used to attack heroes and fight back.

Never fought back.

On test she would spawn once a day at first, and 1 single point of damage would do her in. So the Devs decided to feed her some bran to make her a tad more regular.

??

The only differences between Old Sally and New Sally are:

-Spawns at least once every 1 or 2 hours as opposed to 10 (or was it 20?) hours like other monsters.

-Doesn't aggro other enemy mobs.

-Doesn't swim on land anymore.

The Save Sally movement was in response to the fact that Sally appeared to be totally placid. Way before anyone was able to see her, we knew about the Believer badge and how it was for "spotting and proving the lake monster exists". We knew that Sally was even the Winthrop U's Salamanca Campus's mascot!

However, it turned out the only way to "spot" Sally was by smacking her up upside the head with an attack! This was seen as mean spirited.

Instead of coming up with a new solution (probably since I5 was already running late, IIRC), they had a Paragon Times article where Jackson Turner met with Skipper LeGrange, where they happened to encounter Sally, to which Skipper insisted "was corrupted by the Red Caps".

As I recall, Positron took control of one of the Rikti commanders and was actively trying to kill as many heroes as he could!

[/ QUOTE ]

During the Rikti invasion at least one of the Devs was spawning as a Rikti Mentalist EXCEPT that while he/she had the powers of a Rikti Boss they used their mind powers so that when you targeted them it said lvl 7 Blaster and the target color was blue.

During the invasion the Rikti targeted the hospitals to try and stop the heroes from respawning. Gosh! Mobs using sensible tactics! OMG!

[/ QUOTE ]

It was Positron. He made a blaster named "Elite", with which he level-bumped some heroes before the end of beta event.

I put "Elite" on my friends list, and since it said where Elite was during the event, I knew where the Rikti Starship would turn up next.

Their Rikti alter egos where all level 8, conned purple to everyone regardless, and their description said "Blaster" complete with the Blaster icon.

There wasn't any resistance cap in place at that time, so when my tank activated unstoppable, he had a genuine 100% damage resist to all damage (xcept psionics). Was fun seeing the Dev-controlled-Rikti-Chief-Soldier's blade (which did *insane* damage!) hit him again and again and taking no damage.

Well, then Unstop ran out.....

Sadly, I didn't get his other character, "Nortisop" (blaster again, in the default black generic costume, no less!), to hand me the last bump to level 38 from 35 before. "Elite" obviously got swamped with /tells for level bumps.

Teehee, fun.

Did you know....

that Outcast Freezer lieutenants and bosses never spawned until i2?
You had fire, wind, and earth, but no ice set Outcast would spawn-outside of a rare appearance in a story arc.

Did you know that the original animation for "Storm Kick" from the Martial Arts set was completely different? It used to throw up a leg and deliver several swift kicks in succession. But the animation time was very long and there were many complaints, so it was changed to the Storm Kick we have today. I still miss the original, since it made me feel really awesome... but it was a really long animation.

My wife was just saying the other day that she missed the original "b*tch slap" version of Storm Kick.

- Crimson Death (a Fire / Devices Blaster) was the first player to hit maxlevel (40 at the time) two weeks after launch? Apparently s/he played 14 hours a day to get there... and exploited the slow powers in both Fire and Devices to stop enemies getting anywhere near them.

[/ QUOTE ]

One of the first power changes was to Caltrops because of this strategy. They changed the AI so mobs try to run off Caltrops. One of the first post-release characters I played was an AR/Dev Blaster. If you dropped Caltrops just right, you could get the mobs to continuously try to cross the caltrops to get to you.

I also remember the bug that caused your cast pets to die if you then became a sidekick!

I remember the bug where pets would turn hostile if someone zoned while they were active. The pet would stay behind in the zone attack heroes. I was nearly killed by a rogue Singularity in Perez Park.

1) There was a bug with the cape mission when it first came out. The mobs would start attacking the monument when you first got onto the upper floor...sometimes when you first started the mission...making it a real race to try and get there in time. Lots of folks grabbed an upper level hero to team with so they could run to the monument and save it just to get a cape.

2) The Hydra in Perez used to be farmed for xp. 8 man teams would be constantly hydra hunting in the lake.

I didnt see it mentioned, so forgive me if I missed it.

Did you know...
That at one time you HAD to do the Outbreak tutorial each and every time. There was no option to skip it if you wanted to.

3) I2 was introduced with the Ralaruu invading Pargon City. Portals would open in all the zones and Ralaruu would pour out.

4) I3 saw the overthrow of the 5th Column by the Council. There were huge street fights, with 5th and Council soldiers duking it out. I especially remember large ones in Bricks.

Did you know that dozens of citizens would run around a shelter door all day long in Kings Row? A bug where any saved person would run to this shelter door but they would not enter it. So they would simply run around all day long.

It's by the tram and a sign was put up on it after they fixed it.

The demons that spawn from the Orenbaga portals used to be worth XP. It was common for people to get a portal mission and form 8 man teams and stay in the mission for hours, rotating team members. The teams would stand on a slope, send in a tank to aggro the portal, and go to town on the demons. Magic origin heroes would also get great SO drops.

If you could stand the mind-numbing boredom, which I couldn't.

Any beta villains ever invade Paragon? I never had a chance to but I heard some things.

[/ QUOTE ]

CoV beta bug. Clicking exit mission would drop you outside of another version of Atlas Park. You could run for a bit to get into the zone, otherwise you were outside the geometry. You could smack around the thugs and save citizens, but those damn police drones would zap you back to Mercy.

[/ QUOTE ]

The only thing you couldn't do, if you could avoid the drones, was get missions from the contacts. You could get exploration badges (although I believe they were villain versions, someone help me out?) You could use the trains, level, etc.

I recall Regen scrappers turning on IH and putting Whirling Sword or Spines AoE attack on Auto Fire and leaving the game for hours on end as they just raked in the xp.

Did you know......... that back then the game didn't auto kick you if you went afk and you could conceivably stay logged in forever. The AFK system has been implemented and altered a few times since to try to keep people from using flaws in the system to find ways to PL their characters.

I think it might have been sugested/thought of for tanks but I'm sure they quickly decided against it.

Not sure if this is relevant but I guess it's just a random fun fact:

Did you know that the Japanese plan on constructing a vertical city, just like Grandville? (I saw it on Discovery Channel a while back, that's why it was weird how the concept of Grandville, when I first heard about it, seemed familiar.)

Anyway, just random irrelevant facts.

Yup true and it was decided that fury made the tanker AT a little to powerful so it was scrapped and then resurfaced for brutes. (This change never went live or to the test server it was internal testing)

The devs then decided to just lower tanker end cost and just give them a little damage boost.

I remember Statesman at the time saying how he wanted to make tankers more like comic book tankers with the fury idea.

I dug up Statesmans post check it out click
