Issue 7 Press Release on MMORPG.com
[ QUOTE ]
Guys, can we wait until we know definatively what's in i7 before we complain, like once it's on test?
*smacks forehead*
Sorry about that, temporary lucidity or insanity, take your pick... carry on.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, there is this...
But maybe there will be something else added before then!
I won't be a part of your system!
[ QUOTE ]
So your argument is that since the new PvP zone includes villians it's not good enough for you and should be CoH only? When CoH already has 28 zones? What?
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm saying that in an issue update of game with two inentionally OPTIONAL content areas (CoV and PVP), the devs should put some new content in that does not require one to participate in either piece of optional content.
Quite possibly they have, and this press release just didn't highlight the new content that is coming for people who choose not to participate in the OPTIONAL portions of the game.
But if they haven't included such content, people have a legitimate reason to be disappointed. It's not an unreasonable expectation.

Right then, looks like it's time for me to take a break from the forums again.
[/ QUOTE ]
Welcome to a new issue about to be released! I wouldn't return to the forums until at least two weeks after I7 hits live.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yep. Before a new issue hits, it's all doom and complaints. After a new issue hits, it's all doom and complaints. Welcome to the doom and complaints. See ya when it's doom and complaint time.
Edit - The letter D is a wiley, wicked foe indeed.
[ QUOTE ]
Neither side is right. Neither side is wrong. Both sides do deserve the attention, though, since everyone's 15 dollars is as good as everyone else's. There's some of us who don't even PvP exclusively that are waiting for Recluse's Victory just to get PvP zone badges. Surely your desires are no better nor worse than mine. And neither of ours invalidates the others.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't care about badges, I just want to stack Cloak of Darkness, Focused Accuracy, and Tactics and hunt Stalkers in Recluse's Victory.
Well, I want to do other things, too.

*mumbles about CoH barely getting anything, again*
[/ QUOTE ]
Yup already looking at single player games to do while waiting for COH to get new content. Another PvP Slum, yay. I am so looking forward to another 3 months of doing Frostfire until I puke. I got Fable and looking at a few other solo games.

B) Until my heroes can crossover into the Villain PVE zones, the fact that I've purchased CoV doesn't do them a whole heck of a lot of good.
[/ QUOTE ]
The game doesn't revolve around Heroes, luv. And certaintly not yours. Just because they didn't give you something specific for some specific characters* doesn't mean that this issue isn't a very very good thing. Just from this press release alone we've gotten so much more fantastic content for CoX! Why the heck are you complaining that it's not enough?
(* They DID give you new things! New costume peices, new SG base additions, a whole new zone to play in!)
[/ QUOTE ]
Look, flame on all you want, I'm not rising to the bait anymore. If you want to view my post as a request that the entire game revolve around my specific characters, then you're more interested in convincing yourself I'm a twerp than in having a civilized discussion.
Ladied and gentlemen, I am a twerp.
Voila, you can be happy now.
I think you might want to highlight my first post here and re-read it with the blue-ed out text visible. I see a lot of good news in this press release, and my only real concern is that it didn't include an announcement of content for the PVE segment of CoH.
I've explained elsewhere why I don't think that's an unreasonable request. If you don't buy that logic, we can agree to disagree.

But isn't all content, in and of itself, optional?
What's the difference between people complaining that every issue is PvP based or people complaining that there aren't any new scrapper/tanker power sets or that Croatoa is too EQ-like.
It comes down to the simple fact of: you can please some of the people some of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time.
If issue 7 included Grandeville, Recluse's Victory, and a new zone for heroes (maybe the Egyptian one that's been rumored) along with new brute/stalker and tanker/scrapper powersets, we'd still have an equal amount of people complaining that the powersets aren't for their AT or the new zones aren't for their level.

I still need to finish Half-Life 2, Doom 3, Quake 4, Vampire, and...lots of others.
CoH and WoW keep distracting me.

I don't understand what you mean by 'optional content' since every activity in CoX can be considered optional. You don't have to do missions, you don't have to street hunt, you don't have to enter hazard zones, you can choose your contacts, and if you never want to see Hamidon...you never have to. Heck, you even have the option to stop paying $15 a month and you never have to deal with this again. Your argument is flawed. You want specific PvE content for CoH and call everything else optional when, really, everything about CoX is optional. If your highest level toon was 25 and this issue was full of level 50 content would you complain because it wouldn't effect you?
Do you see what I'm saying now?

Clearly, all complaints aren't created equal. Having hero and villain PVE content would be nice, because it'd give people in both games something more to do. That's not quite the same as complaining that the content you get isn't to your taste.
Generally, I think people who get annoyed at magic in a comic book superhero game are a bit weird.

The only thing that really matters is that I am not getting what I want and therefore all of your arguments, (whomever you are, (since you are not the person I'm replying to, but the reader, see?)), are useless and poorly formed. Moreover, you are probably a nincompoop, but I think I'll wait until I see your next post before commiting myself.

City of Heroes does. And people who only have CoH don't get very much with I7.
The last thing I want to do is join in the whining about an issue I'm very excited about. But there isn't really a 'CoX' as such - there's CoH and CoV, and the PvP zones where they overlap. CoH does still deserve to be seen as its own game. For some people, it's the only 'City of' game they have.
I'm sure they HAVE done a lot with CoH that just isn't in the press release. New mission art, that kind of thing.

Didn't States say they're trying to get newspaper tech, combined missions and other QoL villain stuff into CoH? I remember a post where he said they're working on it, but I don't remember if he said they're aiming for i7 with that stuff.
If they are, heroes will be very, VERY happy.
I think we all need to chill out, sit back, and wait for it to get on test.
Now take up a chair. I have enough Big League Chew for everyone.

The formatting of that page leads me to believe that the details to follow will be about the new costume options. I'm sure those new options will be the ones that were added to CoV.
I mean, I don't know. It's a free expansion and all, but I can't help but feel something ill-willed towards Issue 7 with the infomation that's been posted thus far. Like I've said, I can see why this particular Issue would be Villain-centric (namely getting 40-50 content and a 40-50 PvP zone), but knowing that Issues won't come but once every 6 months now... I don't know.
Most of CoH's content is pretty stale right now. More than stale in some specific areas. To know that it'll be another six months before any of that changes? Or even is possible to change?
It would just be cool for there to be something content related that was Heroes only, too.

Actually I believe he said they would not make it into I7....
There goes that theory.
Completely off-topic, but. You owe it to yourself to throw F.E.A.R. into that list if you can. That game is pretty incredible.

Bad bug! You're supposed to flame me for being either an elitist snob or a n00b.
[ QUOTE ]
But isn't all content, in and of itself, optional?
[/ QUOTE ]
Of course. Playing the game is optional. I could go play Scrabble.
However, there's a difference between me excercising my personal entertainment options and the devs coming out and saying something is optional. When the devs say it, the implication is that the aspects of the game that you have come to enjoy will not be given short shrift in order to facilitate the new optional thing the devs are making.
Previous to PVP and CoV, new content was added to the PVE portion of CoH each issue (that's all there was!). People have been pretty open-minded about not getting that for a couple of issues when the devs were putting up the arena and CoV, but the expectation was that after the launch of CoV we would start seeing at least some of the new content effort being put back into the portions of the game the devs didn't label as optional. (And maybe they did and just didn't highlight it in the press release.)
You might consider that expecation as unreasonable, but I think it's a pretty fair follow through from the dev promises of CoV and PVP being optional.
On the other hand, the devs have never promised that the game would include new powersets added often, or that zones wouldn't be magic based, or that you would never have anything to complain about, or that you would happen to have characters of the right level when new content did come out.

It's not really the Doom And Complaints that gets me.
It's the condescension. It's the anger. It's the sense that I Am Right And You Are Wrong. It's the inability to see another person's point of view. It's the posts that insult and flame and troll and belittle other people, the nastiness that results when discussion turns to attacking.
It's the sort of thing that makes me wonder why I'm on this forum. It's the sort of thing that makes me wonder why I'm playing this game, why I'm playing any game that has me interacting with other people who can act like this towards their fellow players. It's the sort of thing that makes me wonder if I should just give up and cancel.
I keep hearing that it's worse in other MMOG forums, and CoH/V has it good. But with attacks like these, it's not good enough.
