I still knew he had something to do with it.

Thank you Manti. So the debate ends. Manticore didn't found the group and most likely just inspired it. Very interesting.

Um, that's not what he said.

Manticore did say he funded the group.

Manticore did not say he founded the group.

Do you just like fighting Venture?

Manticore funded Wyvern to do the jobs Longbow couldn't for one reason or another. Wyvern as a whole are not as concerned with political niceties and are focused on results. It is likely that many of their agents share Manticore's attitude toward fighting crime.

They share his attitude towards crime and he pays them to do jobs for Longbow, but is otherwise in no way involved. Sharing his attitude sounds alot like inspiring them.

I think you're the one reaching here Hermod. Manticore says he funded them to do jobs that longbow couldn't. That implies he had a significant say in their purpose. Manticore also doesn't identify any other sources of funding. It could easily be read to say that Manticore provides all funding for the group as well as providing both practical and inspirational guidance for Wyvern. I'm not sure where you get the idea that he pays them to do jobs for Longbow. That's a rather unlikely interpretation of what he wrote IMO.

It actually sounds to me like he IS the founder of Wyvern based on what he wrote.

Really? I didn't get that at all. It sounded like to me that he payed a Mercenary group to jobs Longbow can't.

Considering that Longbow seems to routinely flout international law.. I am wondering what Wyvern does..

Umm, how does Longbow flout international law? It is a private force, not part of any governement, so isn't bound by most of them.

I suspect "funded" is a typo of "founded." And even if not, if you pay for it you own it.

Meanwhile, what would be Manticore's crime-fighting philosophy? "Employ obsolete weapons"?

The reason I disagree with your interpretation is Manitcore's choice of the word 'funded' instead of 'payed'. When one hires a company or professional on an occasional basis, one pays them for their services. Funding an agency or individual implies a much closer relationship where one pays the day to day expenses and maintenance fees of said agency or individual. For example, the U.S. Government pays Boeing to build planes. It funds N.A.S.A.

I can see that. I suppose I just made the adjustments in my head to say funded = payed. Alright, looking at it like that still doesn't mean he founded them. Manticore seems to agree with their philosophy. So he gives them a check and passes along jobs Longbow is to selfrightous to do. Or funding them to keep them friendly with Longbow.

Hey guys,

Manticore funded *and* founded Wyvern. The rest of the Phalanx are not aware of that however.

Carry on...

Cool, thanks Manti.

And as an aside to the poster who mentioned Bo and Luke Duke...

They use bows and arrows because of the terms of their parole/probation. They may NOT own/possess firearms of any kind.

There were a few episodes where someone 'borrowed' Coltrane's pistol (thereby getting it out of the hands of a dangerous incompetent) or Jesse's shotgun... but Bo and Luke fell back on arrows and dynamite because such items were NOT an automatic go-back-to-jail card.

You know your problem was using too many words.

See, if it was Posi, he would have just said "Yes" and everyone would be done with it.

They're not? A bunch of crime-fighting archers, named after a mythological beast, and they didn't immediately make that connection? My villain is smarter than the entire Phalanx put together?

I'm just here to point out that the past tense of "pay" is "paid". "Payed" is "to let out (a line or cable) by slackening".

How weird is that?

And don't think this the end of it! If we can agree to anything, it's that we disagree and you'll probably need to give us more clarification.

Now, to find out how much that information is worth to Arachnos...
