When choosing Brute what did you pick?
Burnshadow
Fire/Dark
Cliche "demon from the void" concept, but I like it. I'll roll with it.
Coming from a Regen scrapper background I sort of saw DA as the red-headed stepchild secondary but I've come to love it for the sheer multi-purpose awesomeness that it represents.
Fire because, well, I like setting things on fire.
Here he is looking sexy on the last day of Beta.
Holler at me if you see me on Freedom and I'll SMASH something for you. (I just had to say it)
I went Super Strength/fire. In CoH I played Defenders and Controllers, so this is my chance to play a melee class. Fire mainly because I like the graphics. Super strength because I like the idea of Rage, foot stomp and Handclap as a oh crap power to buy me time. Not really uber, but it's great fun so far.
And since thats what matters most!

The title of this thread and what you wrote above have nothing to do with each other. From the looks of it (and I may be wrong), you want us to tell you why we chose what we did in order to possibly determine the "best" Brute combination. From my beta experience, I can honestly say that there is no one best combo, although it looks like DM/FA might become a flavor of the month due to having a couple of heals and End restores. but trust me, all the powersets work well together when you find the specific synergy between primary and secondary.
That being said, my main Brute ultimately ended up being EM/FA. This was purely for concept purpose, as I envisioned him to be this massive, glowing juggernaut-in-flames that would rocket towards his foes like some sort of infernal locomotive. Appropriately, he also had Super Speed and was named Helldozer, which I adopted as both my CoV beta board moniker and now my CoH board moniker.
Positron: "There are no bugs [in City of Heroes], just varying degrees of features."
Yeah I kind of got confused by that too. I've been hearing a lot about DM/FA though for the reasons that were said before.
I chose a Fire/DA though strictly for concept reasons. I really wanted the sword for my character , so I'm not giving it up. Demonic Knight, if anyone wants to join up sometime.

Dark/Fire, the other demon build.
Fire Aura doesn't obscure your costume so much as Dark Armor.
EM/DA for pvp
DM/Stone
DM is just to nifty of a utility set, I fell in love with it on my scrapper and its great on a brute.
Stone because it fit my character concept. That said it is a very good armor set. It does have some specific drawbacks but they can be worked with.

Energy/Energy...because as a seasoned Ice Tanker, I'm a glutton for Defense-armor punishment.

Good point. My main Brute is DM/FA largely because of the 2 heals and 2 end restores. The heals atm dont' do much, they just trend to mitigate a blow or two each, and he's not high enough to pull of the end restores, yet. He's not a Demon-type figure, though he could act that for sure. He's done well so far, only having problems when being rushed by several ranged LTs or playing to close to those dang Energy/Life Mages and not killing fast enough.
Are you a Wolf, a Sheep, or a Hound?

Extreme Prejudice - Dark Melee/Fire Aura.
It fit the demon concept and had a self-rez. I was going to go DM/EA, and did for 8 levels on live, but deleted him. Defense based sets don't bother me, but Fire's RotP and BA made me want to go /Fire.

o common ppl u know what i meant.
I went for Fire/Fire. Great AoE's, Good single target damage, good deffense, a damage aura, and most of all, 2 build up type powers. I wont even need a fury bar at the later levels.

Dark doesn't obscure it so much either, except with Cloak of Darkness.
Also, the graphics will be toned down at some point in the future, 'cause Dark is way too particle-intensive for the new graphic engine.

Stone/Stone to go with a concept character.
I knew the whole werewolf thing was going to be an overdone cliche, so I decided to get it out of my blood during beta. I rolled up a huge, furry gray werewolf. I thought about SS for a primary, but swinging a big stone club felt more primitive, so I went Stone. For a secondary, I've already done invuln and fire, stone/stone wasn't very werewolfy... I wound up with Dark. It was so much fun, I'm still playing Zevon live.

I went with SS/Energy Aura.I never got to play SS tanker in coh so I am trying out diferent builds with this new set of AT's.
ps,I know that brutes are not tankers.
I picked SS/FA because I like them. I don't care which powersets have the best math/potential/whatever. All of the powersets are playable, so I just picked the ones I thought were the most awesome.
Went with a Dark/Energy Brute myself.
Shadow Maul + Rage = Fun.
I also plan on making a Stone/Dark as well.
Smashy Smashy.
Originally I wanted to make an SS/Inv brute, both because I have little experience with the sets from CoH and cause for my concept I figured a werewolf like creature (yeah I should've realised everyone and their mother would be rolling those ). However, for beta, I figured I should actually roll something else just so that when I create the toon on live I get a fresh experience. So I went with DA/Stone and quickly fell in love, and when I got into the headstart I rolled pretty much the same toon. I like how DA is a punching set that doesn't glow like a chrismas tree , and as for stone, well I just can't wait till I get granite. Stone just gives you the most tank-like feel, turn on Rooted (or Granite Armor once you have it) and slowly but surely you just roll over everyone and everything in the way, like an unstoppable wall of dark fury consuming everything in its path.
would dark/dark be any good?
I went Dark/Fire for the Min/max greedy end [censored] in me.
i'll go SS/Invul for concept later and Stone/Stone probably as well.
I went Stone/Fire. So far it's a lot of fun, course I'm only lvl 6.

Dark/Dark's got the utility going for it. Having the ability to lock down minions, as opposed to KOing them, is always cool.
Save the drama for yo' mama.
