When choosing Brute what did you pick?

Likewise Killing Jest...way endurance sucking (or maybe just the way I play her) but a lot of fun (except for the DA noise
I ahve two one is DM/EA and the other SS/Fiery
I made a fire/DA Brute. He was created to be the nemesis mentioned in the bio of my main character a Katana/Regen Scrapper. Basically the bio stated that the mysterious villain went blow for blow against my scrapper and as CrimsonShadow readied his final strike the villain healed to full and landed a spine shattering punch. The dark armor set fit this well with the dark regeneration power as well as the appearance of it giving the look of a mysterious shadowy character. The fire primary worked for the fact that it had the smashing punch attacks as well as a fire sword that could be comparable to the katana even though it is only in two attacks but part of my attack chain.
His bio was that the darkness within him manifested itself in the form of the shadowy armor and the anger within him manifested in the form of his fiery attacks.
Erupt, Fire/Fire. It was a predetermined choice as I liked the idea of a Fire/Fire Tanker but found the actual game play seriously dull. Brute is so much more fun it's hard to describe. It's that surfing the edge feeling, when the rage bar is over halfway, you're starting to one-shot minions and you know yourself that the moment you run out of green pills or the next Healing Flames recharges too late, you're for it unless you can get those massive angry hits in.
SMASH & BURN.
Hi,
I went with a SS/DA combo. I really like dark armour with its AoEs coupled with stealth and fear. Great versatility in Dark Armour and kind of different. I went with SS for knockout blow, hurl for a range attack and foot stomp for another AoE. I figure in a tight situation with Fury, the damage potential of all 3 possible AoEs and Knockout blow for bosses etc. will be a powerful combo.
Cheers,
Prairie
Mr. Madison - Energy/Energy
I'm enjoying it so far. I got Entropy Shield finally, and god, it is awesome. was soloing Orange-con Lost Bosses because they could not mez/hold/immobilize me at the same time. Can't wait to do a CoT mission with ES now.
Misa, EM/DA. Concept build, a young girl who sucks the life force/souls of her foes and collects it for her own purpose.
Energy Melee is good enough that I've run through missions with nothing from my secondary running, which is pretty much what I had to do in that block from 15 to Stamina (well, Obsidian Shield for status). Dark Regen fits her concept very well, and I like how she's basically a ball of dark fluff with two disembodied glowing spheres when I toggle on Cloak of Darkness. Still, other than Dark Regen (and the status protection from Obsidian Shield), I haven't really seen a whole lot of difference when I toggle on or off my shields. Maybe once I get fully kitted out with SOs.
Non-RP-wise, I've always wanted to play Energy Melee, but I can't team-tank worth beans (scrapper at heart). And for scrapper(ish) secondaries, having tried an Invuln (okay, but I've deleted in favour of the tanker version), a SR (got bored, deleted), and a Regen (50), I've always wanted to try a Dark Armour something.
That, and I can't easily come up with character concepts that make use of elemental stuff like Stone or Fire. Also, I prefer resistance to defense, largely because I don't like the "will this hit me or not" gamble.

Well, my Brute is lvl 20 right now, and I'm pretty happy with my build. I'm Energy/Energy, which is good for damage mitigation, what with the disorient and all, but I have some small concerns with the stats of some of the powers in the set. Although I like Whirling hands for its relatively average dmg-not too strong, not too weak-I'm exasperated with the amount of end it costs and the aggro it draws. The aggro is natural (I just don't like it ), but the end cost is kinda contra intuitive. I'm on my way to getting stanima, but right now I'm having end problems cuz of all the toggles. Do you guys think it may be possible to lower the end cost slightly, or at least raise the chance of disorient (I'm talking about nominal changes, nothing overpowering)? Just something to help deal with all the aggro, a reduced end cost would keep the armors up longer, and the disorient chance increase would mitigate some of the attacks coming our way when we use this power.
On a side note, is anyone else as excitied as I am that Total Focus is accessible at lvl 18? It's a great move, kinda slow activation, but powerful all the same.
My brute, Crush and Burn, went with Engergy / Fire.
He does nto have much memory before waking up with the painful burning. The burning makes him angry, and anger makes him burn. They "fixed" him and now he takes his anger out on those that stand in his way by crushing them. He cares for little for anything other than crushing and burning, and has taken that up as his name.
FM/Stone...
USAF Major in charge of a aircraft maintenance unit. During refueling with an experimental fuel, the stuff exploded leaving the major....bad off...and a lot of folks dead. Went sociopathic and is out burning for revenge now...
Lvl 26 solo and have soloed all the EB/AVs I've gone up against...including the Sea Witch and Silver Mantis (twice) plus their minions. I LOVE my brute.
Fire/Fire...
It's an absolutely amazing combination so far, but I think that's just been the archtype as a whole. Build up with Fire Breath and Fire Sword Circle lets me wipe out all the minoins around me. Single target damage is great too, though I'm sure other brutes have it better at my level. Once I get Firey Embrace and Greater Fire Sword Circle we'll see who's the damage master.
Fire/Dark.
Glorious.
My brutes's a DM/FA for pretty typical reasons... little influence from the FOTM feel. And because it suited a demonic character. I love how my demon looks!
Although I'd really like to play out a Stone Melee brute for the smashy feel sometime...
SS/EA. For some reason I love defensive sets so I had to make an EA brute. I was going to be an EM/EA brute but I had already played an EM tank and I HATED the pink pom poms. So I went with SS and I love it. Iron Hand is now 39 almost 40 and I am never bored with him.
Well I'm suprised to see that only one other person posted my sets, Stone Melee/Energy Aura.
I figured Stone was just so SMASHY and, well, it's quite an end sucker so I went with EA. Energy Drain, Entropy Shield, and Energy Cloak seemed like such cool powers (and they are, btw) and then there's always a little something called OVERLOAD!!
The Knockdown feature of Fault and Tremor along with the single target attacks plus Air Superiority means I can always buy some time for Energy Drain, Aid Self, or popping a much needed insp. Get me on a team with a /kin corr or two and I'm a sappin', smashin' fool!!
The build fits my concept, a psychopath who was imprisoned and dug his way out, formed a massive stone mallet, had incredible endurance from his tolerance to constant sedation and SMASHED his way to freedom! Look me up on Guardian, folks!

Well, mine is DM/FA for concept, and then I went and realized how good it is. Yay!
Concept is:
A woman from a village in colonial America singled out and hunted as a witch, although she was innocent. Not being the most... virtuous... of souls, after they burnt her, she came back to do the same to them. Had the have the FA for the graphics alone - being surrounded by flames all the time is perfect for my concept. DM fit well because I wanted her to have something suitably 'ghosty' feeling. I like it.
I picked elec/elec.
I didn't care how popular it was, I didn't care how the dev's nerfed it before it hit the stands like trick arrow, I didn't care how some people found it to be uber despite it all.
I did it because I've wanted elec melee since day 1.
And because i'd look hella-cool.
Dawnslayer on Virtue.
Built my first brute on pure concept. Louis Cypher. Devil. Needs cosmic power and fire. EM/FA. Works well. Hate the fact that I had to go with CJ/SJ/Acro for Immob/KB resistance. Next respec, I'll do a hover build and live with the immobs. He's 40 now. So plenty to play with.
Next build, got to 20 and deleted. DM/EA. Dark Melee didn't feel smashy enough. Shadow Maul, although a great attack, took too long. Made me feel like I wasn't doing enough in a fight. Also made it difficult to keep agro off of a team, because I have yet to take taunt on a brute. Since EA has no aura, I have to be able to quickly change targets.
Next was SS/EA. Deleted at 30. This is a great set. I couldn't stand the 10 second no-attack-crash of Rage. I also absolutely hate the Rage/SS sound drone and the aura was too bright.
Currently have my EM/EA at 26. He's incredible against everything except the damn spectral daemons. Checked the combat logs, dark, cold and psi damage. Very painful. Take the energy/elemental toggle early. Don't make my mistake.
Be well, people of CoH.

If my eyes did not deceive me, I didnt see anyone out there with a Fire/Stone brute.
I did it because he is concept toon to be the archvillain to my primary Ice/electric blaster. 2 aliens from another world brought here by the rikti, who distroyed their home planet. You would think they would get along.
No siry bob, they are back at their old way, Night Frost, trying to stop Chared Ash cold in his tracks, while Chared Ash is trying to burn Night Frost into submission.

Funny. Your post is exactly what I was looking for. Fire/stone seems to be overlooked in its entirety. I, too, took it for concept reasons: Vulcanus, demi-god of volcanos, is my fire/stone brute, and man is he scary.
He is a single-target KILLER, and mobs less than purple have no chance at all (well, except CoT Demons...those -recharge and -acc effects are, well, ugly).
I've not faced an AV with him yet (only lvl 27), but Elite Bosses shake with fear at my approach. The eruption of my fury took down LeoKnight, who was +2 to my level, and left nothing but a smouldering ashheap where that tanker had been. I was highly inspired, but still, that deserves a:
Muahahahahaha.
Fire/Stone for teh WIN!!!!
In all seriousness, though, there is an element of sadness to playing him: I haven't had this much fun since I played an inv/ss tanker in I4. I fully expect the nerfbat to be swinging my way soon, fully enhanced for damage. Oh well.
Went with Stone?Eng for my Brute, Stone because I am very familiar with it with my Tank on COH and energy because I wanted something that would let me kill fast.
Love the Combo
I just started up an EM/DA Brute as a counterpoint to my DM/Regen Scrapper. So far it's great. Always wanted to try out Dark Armor character because the various utility auras look like they'd be a lot of fun.
Gothika (Grav/Kin) Marionette (Ill/Rad) Terra Firma (Earth/Storm) Alana Dale (Arch/Nrg)
Iceblink (Ice/Dark) Fantasia (Mind/Fire) Shadow Minx (Claws/Nin)
--Virtue
Akuma Hellkite is an Energy/Dark Armor Brute. He is the son of a Were-Elf and a Dunpeal. I was going for a Villain with internal Conflict; I wanted a positive & negative Energy Representations in his powers.
The Combo of the 2 set is Great, powerful attacks & Good status/resistance protection. He's missing KB/KD Protection but the other Status Protection he get that the other sets dont makes up for it, plus that problem is negated with the Leaping pool.
Although, Visually I think Stone/Fire looks the most villainies.
