... were not greatly exaggerated.
However, I have returned, part-time, but long-term.
It's good to be back.

Those that came to revile Twixt did so because he goaded them. Posting his defeat logs. Spamming insults in broadcast. and more.

Very true. It also conveniently ignores that his play ignored the reward structure of the game. -
I'm going to go through it just to see all the familiar names.

OK, this needs to turn away from a "hate on farms" thread and towards a "hate on noobs that ask for farms" thread.
Farms are fine. Nobody is going to get banned for farms unless they involve an exploit, and even then, it's unlikely. The devs "frowning on" something does not equate to it being a forbidden subject.
We should all agree that this thread is self-serving bogus and leave it at that. Honestly, this thread should be locked. -
I resent the "Champion doesn't approve of farming" chatter (I know you qualified that, though, Wonka). I approve of farming. I would approve of a thread on the forums that was something like "farming tonight if anyone wants to join." But posting a thread to set up a team consisting of a bunch of farm toons and your lowbie? How about no.

Some of mine become heroic, since they're currently villains...
The Denizen becomes... The Exile
The Comrade becomes... The Compatriot
The Android becomes... The Automaton
The Keystone becomes... The Gemstone
Catfight becomes... Catnip
Hordesman becomes... Berserker -

I think you are vastly overestimating the number of names that would be freed up by any sort of name purge. There's a reason the devs made the cut-off level 6 on the second go-round and why they haven't done it again since.
Most of the common names are locked up by active players. A purge would make very little difference.
Just think of another name. It's really not that hard.
[/ QUOTE ]
Calling [censored] on that one. The level 6 name purge freed up names like Blackguard, Roman, Earth, Wind, Fire, Anubis, Gilgamesh, Gatekeeper... I can't even begin to list the rest of them, there were dozens that I saw open up instantly and start popping up. That's level 6, done ONCE. -
There is a threshold, though, after which you can safely expect that a player is not coming back. One year, two years, sure, a player could come back - three? Four? Five?
And then take into consideration, how much will they care about a level 10? A level 20? Maybe one level 30, after three or four years?
It's a bit silly, especially since this would open up a lot of names - not just iconic ones, but just names in general - to active players. It's not like this is WoW, where names basically don't matter - we're talking superheroics and supervillainy here, names are important! -
Totally did this with my main. Changed the name to fit the origin.

As long as you avoid cliche and boring names, like naming your Fire/Dark "Burning Shadow," it's easy to get names.
[/ QUOTE ]
One man's "cliche and boring" is another man's "classic and simple."
[/ QUOTE ]
I figured someone would bring that up. After all, some of our most well-known heroes are named things like... Spiderman. My point is, those names are already all taken.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, first of all, they're not all taken - I got Android after i14 launch. Wasn't taken.
But the problem isn't that they're taken, it's that they're taken by players who don't play the game any more. I think we can all agree that active players should be catered to over players who haven't played for multiple years. The question would be where to draw that line. -

I'm just going to pull up the wiki for superhero names... hm... let's see here... Animal Man, Angel, Ant Man, Apollo, Aquaman, Atom, Blaze, Balder, Banshee, Batman, Beast, Bishop, Black Knight, Black Panther, Blade, Bushido, Cable, Cannonball, Changeling, Chamber, Cloak, Corsair, Colossus... I could go on and on and on.
Those names aren't cliche or boring for superheroes and villains - they're iconic. Those are the names that people would like - the iconic names. To say that it's not difficult to get a name under the current system (or lack thereof) is a statement that completely disregards one of the mainstays of comic book name trends: simplicity. -

I'm pretty sure they already did/are doing some variation of this.

... but it only covers characters level 5 and under, right? As I understand it, a player that got to level 6 on the first day of CoH and then quit will still prevent that name from ever being used again. AND it's not a regular process - the last time it was done was at least a year ago, I think.
[ QUOTE ]
I know how it works. I'm saying, people would simply not like it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Why not? I'm sure those hordes of people coming back after four years will be mortified that they may have lost one or two names on characters that weren't level 50. Hell, even take 50s out of the equation.
Who would care? One person? What about posters like the OP and countless other ACTIVE PLAYERS that can't find simple names because inactive accounts are sitting on them for years? -
[ QUOTE ]
So all these people who are coming back after spending 4 years gone, will find their characters wiped... no thanks. The way they do it now is fine. People need to remember that there are near-infinite ways to get your ideas onto the screen. Just use em.
[/ QUOTE ]
No, the characters wouldn't be wiped. A name purge is when the character's name is no longer exclusive to the character. If your name was "aseorihaweproiaipwore", you could come back and have your name just as it was. But if your name was, say, "Zephyr," someone could take it, and then you'd get a free name change if you did return - if nobody took it, you'd still have it. And even at four years, it would only be up to level 40 - the only people who would have their 50s' names made available would be people who had quit right after joining the game. Do we really need to cater to them? Hell, just wiping names that had been gone for five years would be a huge change in and of itself. -
I find a lot of good names.
Something needs to be done about names, though, because a lot of people don't have the time, patience, or desire to search through thousands of words to find one that isn't taken.
I suggest a scaling name purge system whereby the longer a person has their account deactivated, the higher level the toons are that have their names made available.
For instance:
Account inactivity for three months results in level 5 and under characters having their names made available.
Six months, level 10.
Nine months, level 15.
Twelve months, level 20.
Fifteen months, level 25.
Eighteen months, level 30.
Twenty-one months, level 35.
Twenty-four months, level 40.
Twenty-seven months, level 45.
Thirty months, level 50.
Maybe something a bit less drastic, even - it could go something like:
1 year, level 10.
2 years, level 20.
3 years, level 30.
4 years, level 40.
5 years, level 50.
... and that would still free up thousands of excellent names on all servers. -

Dig these.
My favorite would probably be Android at the moment... but my full list of good snags:
Android
Anubis
Great Briton
Afro
Keystone
Comrade
Blackguard
Denizen
Catfight
Demoniac
Cricket
Shootout
Lawmaker
And a few more, I forget them sometimes. -
I enjoyed the AOW costume contests. I thought they were well-run, won some Influence, and generally had a good time. It brought my attention to their SG, but I didn't feel pressured to join at any time, and nothing they said indicated that.
Keep up the good work, AOW. -
My entries: Anubis, Android, and Comrade.

I have a 3.5-foot catguy who is a devourer of universes type...
But in all-seriousness, I'll give it a shot. Throw some ideas around CC creator. Are there any costume packs you don't have? What's your highest vet reward badge? Just so I know my restrictions. I'm also assuming Denizen has access to capes and auras. Heh, I'll see what I can come up with.
And my first sentence is true...
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm up to 33 months in Vet Rewards and I'm pretty sure I have every costume piece available to Villains unlocked, minus the halos and the Pumpkin head. -
Hey artistic people,
Usually I do alright with costumes, but I'm modifying my main toon right now and I just can't find something iconic enough to be comfortable with on a main, y'know?
Here's what I'm going for:
<ul type="square">[*]Name: Denizen[*]Origin: Technology[*]Archetype: Brute[*]Primary: Fiery Melee[*]Secondary: Dark Armor[*]Body Type: Huge[*]Going for: Galactus/Apocalypse/Darkseid/Thanos/etc. Devourer of universes type. I don't want him to be just a huge robot or something. Most of all, looking for something that goes with the powersets (though that doesn't mean throw Fiery Aura all over the place). Dark Armor is weird to work with, especially in regards to Obsidian Shield.[/list]
Any help would be appreciated, but hey, if you have a Dark Armor character and think their costume is cool, posting that might help too.
Thanks!

Also looking for Gunslinger.. Though the ingame name checker said it was taken, I doubt I can have that name due to the Malta's lt. Gunslinger.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yep, it's a blocked name. -
I have the names:
Plasma
and
Sugar Rush
I am looking for high-quality names of any genre, but in particular space- or physics-related ones.
