The two single target debuffs plus Sleet (which can be stacked and proc'ed out) put out a huge amount of Resistance debuff and lots of -Regen. Sleet with 4 procs puts out a respectable amount of AoE damage along with its debuff and Knockdown.

For your teammates you have wonderful defensive Ice Shields . . . which, with Arctic Mist give you three powers in your secondary that take Luck of the Gambler Recharge. While you don't have a +Recharge power, it is not too tough to make up a build with Perma PA.

Plus you get Heat Loss, which is like the Fulcrum Shift for Endurance, providing a huge Recovery buff. You can buff your recovery for those long AV fights.

What you don't get is a self-heal. */Cold is also a late-developing build, as you get two of the best powers at 35 and 38.

My personal opinion is that Ill/Rad may be a more flexible all-purpose build, but Ill/Cold is flat-out better at killing (and helping to kill) single tough targets. I haven't yet played an Ill/Dark as I already have 5 level 50 Illusion controllers, and I have played plenty of Dark -- I'm working on a Dark/Dark controller, and have several Dark Miasma toons at 50. Obviously there are several Ill/Dark fans in this thread. But I bet that Ill/Cold will be faster at killing AVs. Back in the pre-Incarnate days, I would often bring my Ill/Cold on the STF and it would shave 5-10 minutes off of our time because the tough targets would drop faster -- and that was with a really, really good team.
Most interesting. I all of a sudden feel really bad that I just learned about slapping tons of procs into the various rain attacks. Time for some altitis, and to make tons of Ill/* controllers!

  3. I'm currently playing a Ill/Rad with enough recharge for perma-Phantom Army. Would it be worth the time to go villain for the Patron Power Pools, and spec into getting one?

Oh my. I'm not even overclocking, either. o.O I'm using the stock fan, which might be some crap. I'll go and get a new heat sink and see if that takes care of it.

It could most certainly be a temp issue
I went and ran hardware monitor while playing CoH, and when it crashed, I took a screenshot of it immediately after the crash.

Spoke too soon. Crashed after 45 minutes in 11.2. Went to 11.3, still crashes after 35-45 minutes. Lowering the graphics settings to minimum seems to extend my playtime to about an hour, but this is not optimal. The error message that I see in the bottom left-hand corner after crashing is as follows:

"Display driver AMD Driver has stopped working and recovered."

    Ugh.

  10. I've just come back to playing City of Heroes after a year or so hiatus. Problem is, I can't stay in a mission for longer than 15 minutes without crashing to desktop (display freezes, sound stops, then white screen with the option to close the program). I'm hoping that this is a common problem that is solvable.

    Here's my CoH Helper log:

I just came back from a 2-year exodus from CoX, but I used to be in a PvP-oriented SG/VG, and we used to run TFs EXTREMELY well with our PvP setup. Clearing stuff like LRSF first week, Cathedral of Pain with only one group, things like that. It didn't hurt that a well-tuned PvP team could debuff the bejeezus out of two to three foes, while being able to defense cap the entire team. Things might have changed since I've been gone, but it couldn't have been that much......I hope?

  13. Ghost Widow has the same power when I fought her as a EB in a mission. Was teamed up with a Invul brute, and he snatched him up in Soul Storm, even with him having 3+ IDs on him. Kinda cool, if you ask me.

I have eleven wonderful avatars he is free to use...

    Where are they?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    They have to load.

So they loaded....Where are the wonderful avatars at again?

Another tactic is to pop the green after AS (quick reflexes needed), select the stalker and hit an attack as they placate. Since you queued the attack it'll go off anyway, knocking em outta hide and allowing you to wail on em. Work out how many greens to hit to survive the 2 hit combo but still have defiance running.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That will break Placate and make em run but it may not kill em. Most Stalker I fight use Super Speed for that extra stealth bonus. Also what if you miss? Now you have no time left for the Nuke! Nice alternative though.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Actually, Super Speed doesn't give an extra stealth bonus in PvP.

    Badge Questions

Yeah, I think that you just might want to hold off on buffing Giant Monsters, just based off of a small handful of peoples' suggestions.
  17. Then....should they just take away Trick Arrow from Controllers, if it's going to be that hard to buff TA for Defenders, while having to worry about making it too good for Controllers? It's the same reason why Controllers don't have Dark Miasma, right?
  18. If I were still in high-school, and if they held CoH CCG tourneys for cold, hard cash, then I could be tempted to break the game, like in my earlier, nerdier days with the DBZ CCG.

Just don't mention that out in public. >.>

There, let the math guy tear that apart!
  20. What.....Power Boost will double the duration of....say....Blizzard?

    *foams at the mouth*

Could Ice/Eng possibly become even more of a FotM?
  21. I dunno, Air Superiority is a quick animating attack, does a sweet flip animation to people that are on the ground, and doesn't cost very much endurance. Personally, I'd still take both, just so I could use Hurl on the fliers, and AS on the grounded people that don't have KB resist, in order to combo them relentlessly.
  22. So, any hope that they could tone down the end drain from Sappers while they are at it?
  23. Hmm...I'm still not quite sure on how well this is going to represent how balanced the tanker role is as a whole, since the people who post here are probably better versed with how to play their characters than most other players you run across. However, I'm still anxoiusly awaiting the results, since it sounds like fun.

    would dark/dark be any good?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Dark/Dark's got the utility going for it. Having the ability to lock down minions, as opposed to KOing them, is always cool.
