and secondly, no we don't talk like that. People from tiny little farming communities have a tendency to speak like that at times, but for the most part we speak pretty normally.

The hell you don't. :P
Cracks me up everytime I have to talk to anyone from anywhere near that area, or Wisconsin, or Minnesota.
Dontcha know.
I've already forgotten about most of you

I thought "North Dakota" was a make-believe place like "Scotland" and "North Carolina".

That film drives me nuts, especially when whoever I'm playing with, when they find out Im Scottish, immediately says, "I liked Braveheart".
NNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo....
I live not 100 yards from Stirling Bridge, where was the bridge in the film... WHERE WAS THE HUGE SWAMP IN THE FILM!!!
<pant, pant, pant>
Sorry, but gah!

Now Braveheart... There's some historical innacuracies for you!)

What the HELL are you talking about??!?!?! That was a DOCUMENTARY. Brilliantly done. Verbatim about what happened. I can't believe they found actual video footage of all of that in such great detail.
I just wish the guy documenting all of this would have helped out once in awhile...but I guess if he was a true historian, he didn't want to alter any outcomes.

I heard it was a real pain to get the cameras set up to document those battles - they had to have 6 teams of slaves running on treadmills to power the whole damn rig.
Upsen.
But the devs would never lie to us. I believe in the Alien invasion, that Paragon City is in Rhode Island, and that the biggest danger to our world is giant pile of jello. And i believe in the tooth fairy, Santa Claus, and the Easter Bunny too!

But do you believe in Toledo? (old Stan Freberg reference)
I still ain't made up my mind yet about Toledo...
Oh, and most folks call 'em green onions, but they're really scallions.

I know Wyoming is an old indian word for "No state here"
(Cookies AND pie to the person that can identify that reference))
I'm guessing the Simpsons (So my subconcious is telling me).
Oh and with the historical innacuracies thing? U-721 (Or whatever it was called), the Americans DIDN'T crack the enigma device... <working himself into a good frothy frenzy now.... snik>

I can sympathize. I grew up in Fargo, ND and now like about an hour away in Jamestown ND. Anytime I mention that fact, I get the response "I loved the movie Fargo!" Man does that piss me off. First, the movie was filmed mostly in Minnesota about 3 hours from Fargo, and secondly, no we don't talk like that. People from tiny little farming communities have a tendency to speak like that at times, but for the most part we speak pretty normally.

Hey guys I just wanted to address a few things about this thread.
First of all although many characters, groups and places in City of Heroes may have a foundation in history, it is very likely they will not match up directly because our game is fictional. Please keep in mind that our intent is not to annoy or offend anyone.
Now lets talk about Croatoa for a minute.
As several people have pointed out despite the fact that Roanoke Island is in North Carolina now, it wasnt then. The Roanoke colony was founded the first time in 1585, 22 years before Jamestown. Technically there wasnt a Virginia *or* a North Carolina when the island was first discovered, but when she was told about the area by Sir Walter Raleigh Queen Elizabeth named the new land Virginia. The Lost Colony itself was established in 1587.
Croatoan were in fact the unexplained letters that were found. We called our zone Croatoa to echo that, but leaving the n off was intentional. The fact that the n was left off in the article describing the letters was simply a typo.
I hope this helps clear things up.
booo... posting sense in a thread that was becoming sillier by the minute!
On the other hand, a red name responded to my post! woo hoo!
Egor.
Poetic license?! That's your defense for these capital crimes of, uh... Geography!?
You win this round, 'core... THIS round...
Yes it clears up things Manticore, thank you. Now throw in some angry potatoes of legend from Idaho and we are set.

Yeah manticore, and while you're at it I expect I5 to include pistol scrappers, no nerfs of any sort, controllers to have scrapper damage, blasters to get Regen as a secondary, the ability to press a button to get to lvl 50, and I want a pony...
There Trolls, did I cover everything?

I'm fairly sure North America (And I suppose Canada from the maps they showed at the time) didn't fight off an invasion of Snow-man like creatures recently...

Please, try telling people you're originally from Jamaica and watch someone who was dealing with you in Canadian accented english previously, suddenly ask if you know where to get good "ganja" in the worst "Ire mon!" accent ever.
