Over 20 million in a multitude of ways, stored items, bought items (not yet retrieved), bids... it will be interesting to see what they can do about it. If I get my money back, I'll be happy, nothing on there was irreplaceable, but the time lost while keeping slots open, and the general annoyance of it all is irritating me.

Good lines of communication can be created with a smaller user set by the devs, increasing the flow of information provided by the players and speeding the testing process up.

Access to the closed beta test will be by invitation only. All participants in this phase of testing will be asked to not disclose the specifics of the test. By controlling just how many are in the beta test, we can better focus and manage testing to get the most out of it. The aim is to deliver a more robust version when entering our open testing phase.

Looks like Lighthouse and the devs agree with me!
My advice (If it's worth anything at all) is too keep the lines of communication outside of the closed beta open. Daily status reports, how things are going, whether the players have managed to break the system entirely and it's being shelved... (JOKING!)
Basically, while it is a closed shop, control the information flow coming out too. If you aren't relying on rumours spreading the info about the testing, do it yourselves. A perfect chance to act on some of the other comments in this thread ;P

I don't even bookmark the official site. The forums are a better source of news, and invariably have links to articles and news about CoH on other sites posted by players before the community relations staff get them up.

Thats what I do... red names usually comment on anything important, so it's easy to keep track of what's hot by using the trackers.
In terms of closed testing... I'm guarded. I remember the waves of players getting into CoV beta (1st wave <beams>and the sheer amount of pressure there was on the devs from the player base to speed things up and let *them* on.
Closed testing is a good thing : Players tend to have a lot of ingenuity and can horribly abuse a system in ways the designers never even thought of. Letting an initial, potentially broken, system into the hands of a few and letting them fire through the first few issues is a good thing.
Not killing the test server immediately with 200k+ trying to log on at the same time and setting fire to a datacenter : A good thing.
Good lines of communication can be created with a smaller user set by the devs, increasing the flow of information provided by the players and speeding the testing process up.
Closed testing is a bad thing : It can be seen as a reward. A player in an SG gets into closed testing, and suddenly 75 other players come storming onto the boards screaming that *they* are the only truly worthy ones.
Regardless of closed natures / NDAs, etc, information gets out. More specifically rumours get out. With no way for players to verify what they hear, these forums become deluged in speculation the like of which will get them closed.
Pick one, cos I can't... All of the above are true, and this is why it makes it really hard for me to (dis)agree with a period of closed testing.
I trust the devs for the most part, I've been playing this game since launch and I'm still here so they must be doing something right still.
Now, back to my maths and min / maxing...

Yup! The best thing you guys could do right now would be to explain how the closed testing is going to work, or at some point you're going to have to close the forums entirely, as the player base explodes!
Remember CoV beta! <sharpens his kitten killing devices in anticipation>
Only saying mind...

That's funny. It was never 2 weeks for me, but that was always a fun mistake.

Try when it's buried in almost 2000 lines of code and it isn't breaking the app in any appreciable way...
I was ready to commit murder when I found that one. -

Conclusion:
This means that "suppressed when knocked" was probably added some time after Issue 7... and the "if (target = player)" part, to restrict the suppression to PvP, was forgotten about.
Anyway... if someone wants to PM Castle, go ahead. I'd do it myself, but I'm shy.
[/ QUOTE ]
No need. Your conclusion was exactly correct. I'm adding the PvP restriction now and it should make it's way to you folks in a patch or 3.

Heh... thats fun Kelp, I just had a long conversation throughout which CTab insisted it was lying...

I've suffered this as well... Running through PO to a mission, a Mako Hitman (Just one) starts chasing me (This is with hide up), shooting at me... he chased me over 1 mile to the mission non stop.
I didn't attack, just ran.
Gk. -

He's probably inside Mako right now ...

New keyboard please, this one has coffee all over it!

Yeah I smell another TF...
Shame it will be fairly meaningless to the majority of people, cos they don't read the boards, but we'll all enjoy it! As well as lording over the other the fact we know who Jackson is...
Egor. -
Is there any discussion of making a more story led raid. A TF on a massive scale type of idea (I'm looking at you Crashed Rikti Ship!) to replace the bore fest that is Hamidon.
Egor. -
And now for something completely different...
-
Hah... almost enough posts for me to unleash my "Forum AoE" and gain lots of posting exp...
*cough* I mean, nothing to see here, move along, um...
All Americans smell and aren't all has poor grammer!
<cackle, rubbing hands>
Egor. -
Yeah manticore, and while you're at it I expect I5 to include pistol scrappers, no nerfs of any sort, controllers to have scrapper damage, blasters to get Regen as a secondary, the ability to press a button to get to lvl 50, and I want a pony...
There Trolls, did I cover everything?
Egor. -
booo... posting sense in a thread that was becoming sillier by the minute!
On the other hand, a red name responded to my post! woo hoo!
Egor. -
I'm guessing the Simpsons (So my subconcious is telling me).
Oh and with the historical innacuracies thing? U-721 (Or whatever it was called), the Americans DIDN'T crack the enigma device... <working himself into a good frothy frenzy now.... snik>

What the HELL are you talking about??!?!?! That was a DOCUMENTARY. Brilliantly done. Verbatim about what happened. I can't believe they found actual video footage of all of that in such great detail.
I just wish the guy documenting all of this would have helped out once in awhile...but I guess if he was a true historian, he didn't want to alter any outcomes.

ARRRGHHH...
That film drives me nuts, especially when whoever I'm playing with, when they find out Im Scottish, immediately says, "I liked Braveheart".
NNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo....
I live not 100 yards from Stirling Bridge, where was the bridge in the film... WHERE WAS THE HUGE [censored] SWAMP IN THE FILM!!!
<pant, pant, pant>
Sorry, but gah!
Anyway back on topic...
I'm fairly sure North America (And I suppose Canada from the maps they showed at the time) didn't fight off an invasion of Snow-man like creatures recently...
(Or maybe the Canadians did... damn PLed hockey players!)
Egor. -
Bah, the US doesn't have any real history anyway...
Who cares if it's gotten wrong sometimes... (Now Braveheart... There's some historical innacuracies for you!)

P.S. Only joking, this isn't a serious post <Waits to see how many people don't read this far before they FLAME ON!> -
Oh man, this is looking pretty cool... The giants are looking very nice indeed! (And it would be nice if there was a badge attached to them to encourage people to kill them unlike some of the Giant monsters we currently have, if they are indeed giant monsters).
Everything else we pretty much knew about! I'm looking forward to seeing what little extras they slip in.
Egor. -
How about this take on the idea,
Have another state in the SG membership, along with Captains/Leaders, etc.
Guardians: Only 10 members of an SG can be designated Guardians, and when the player is offline (or playing an alt) these Characters appear in the base. Doing every day tasks and defending the base if required. (Gets round the technical aspects by limiting the amount that can be spawned).
This can raise another level of play in raiding. Finding out who in the SG are their Guardians, and finding some way of getting them online and out of the base (To make it easier to raid).
This is the essence of the "Living breathing base" but muted somewhat to deal with technical aspects.

I wish, I wish, I wish us Europeans on the US servers could get the comic...
Damn that looked sweet.

Tunnels and Trolls for teh win!!!1!
Seriously, as a long term roleplayer (17 days till the student nationals... w00t) how cool would it be to have Jack GM a game of CoH PnP.
I can see it now...
Jack: "Ok, you all start at lvl 1, and..."
Wee Jonny: "Oh man, can't we start at lvl 14, it sucks without travel powers!"
Jack: "No Power leveling..."
