The Paragon Times REALLY PO'd me today...

Looks like he and Gil did their research well enough. So well, in fact, they even duped some native North Carolinians. I daresay, they might have went so far as to use Google, or perhaps open some kind of text-book.

Nope, still not getting it. See, "Virginia's lost colony of Roanoke" makes sense, since the island colony was part of Virginia when its citizens disappeared. If they'd said "North Carolina's lost colony of Roanoke" they would've looked like buffoons, as North Carolina hadn't existed when the citizens of Roanoke mysteriously disappeared.
Now... I don't know. I might have some crazy reading impediment where I filter logic differently than the rest of you, but that makes sense to me. And it certainly doesn't warrant a couple of uneducated posters jumping the gun to berate the creative writing of a developer.
Feel free to unzip your fly again, though.

Now Braveheart... There's some historical innacuracies for you!)

What the HELL are you talking about??!?!?! That was a DOCUMENTARY. Brilliantly done. Verbatim about what happened. I can't believe they found actual video footage of all of that in such great detail.
I just wish the guy documenting all of this would have helped out once in awhile...but I guess if he was a true historian, he didn't want to alter any outcomes.

ARRRGHHH...
That film drives me nuts, especially when whoever I'm playing with, when they find out Im Scottish, immediately says, "I liked Braveheart".
NNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo....
I live not 100 yards from Stirling Bridge, where was the bridge in the film... WHERE WAS THE HUGE [censored] SWAMP IN THE FILM!!!
<pant, pant, pant>
Sorry, but gah!
Anyway back on topic...
I'm fairly sure North America (And I suppose Canada from the maps they showed at the time) didn't fight off an invasion of Snow-man like creatures recently...
(Or maybe the Canadians did... damn PLed hockey players!)

I can sympathize. I grew up in Fargo, ND and now like about an hour away in Jamestown ND. Anytime I mention that fact, I get the response "I loved the movie Fargo!" Man does that piss me off. First, the movie was filmed mostly in Minnesota about 3 hours from Fargo, and secondly, no we don't talk like that. People from tiny little farming communities have a tendency to speak like that at times, but for the most part we speak pretty normally.

Spent 6 horrible, horrible years stationed in Minot. Jamestown? I'm sorry, you poor, poor [censored].
I think that little speck on the map still has more good looking women than Minot though.

Oh and with the historical innacuracies thing? U-721 (Or whatever it was called), the Americans DIDN'T crack the enigma device... <working himself into a good frothy frenzy now.... snik>

Then I must ask, why not make up new names? Based on the few screenshots I have seen, the The Tuatha De Dannann (spelling difference) were not monsters but men and women. Nuada of the Silver Hand, Lugh, Dagda? This seems to have been totaly ignored. I would rather you make up new mythologies and names rather than take very broad poetic license with existing mythologies.
These names and people do conotate certain expectations in people's minds and you risk alienating those folks because of playing fast and loose with people's histories and cultures.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, how dare someone make things up about things that are...er...made up...
And then they say that they're making up things about made up things so that people know that the made up things were made up about the original made up things and are not the originals themselves. Simple enough .
Seriously though, how many people just looked at the pictures and skimmed over the part that mentioned the creatures were horribly twisted and deformed from the ones we know?
I know several Tuatha could change their form anyway (though It doesen't appear to be a characteristic inherent to their kind)

I did a google search for: roanoke virginia croatoan
The first hit.
[ QUOTE ]
In the 1880s, with the approach of the Roanoke Colonys 300th anniversary, a North Carolina man named Hamilton MacMillan proposed a theory that holds some credence today. MacMillan lived in Robeson County in southeastern North Carolina near a settlement of Pembroke Indians, many of whom claimed that their ancestors came from "Roanoke in Virginia".
According to MacMillan, the Pembrokes spoke pure Anglo-Saxon English and bore the last names of many of the lost colonists. Furthermore, "Roanoke in Virginia" was how Raleigh and his contemporaries referred to Roanoke Island. The Pembrokes also had European features: fair eyes, light hair, and an Anglo bone structure. MacMillans findings, published in 1888 pamphlet, gained a great deal of attention from the academic community and renewed interest in the lost colony.

Folks, it's really very simple. Calibre2 over there simply wants something to complain about. Needlessly pointing out FACTS to him/her is useless. Regardless of the fact that Gil IS correct in his assertion that the island was, in fact, a part of Virginia AT THE TIME, is irrelevent: Cal here is 100% accurate that he's right.
In Bizaro World.
Cal, word of advice: -you- might want to do some historical research before -you- open your mouth. You see, simply because you live in North Carolina, that doesn't give -you- the right to reenvision history as -you- see fit. -YOU- are wrong in this matter, not Gilgamesh. What -YOU- have been told throughout -YOUR- life is based on a fundamental innacuracy: property does not change hands, ever.
In the meantime, while you are trying to figure out what that means, use Google. Check it. As a matter of fact, don't bother. Simply use the link that Kali has very graciously offered up to you. You might learn something.

It does exist, actually. It was created by Virginians so they could find a place to send all those NASCAR fans.
