The wing-arms-instead-of-hands thing implies more Mutant, but I'm deep into the realm of speculation at this point.

[/ QUOTE ]

What's this wing-arms-instead-of-hands thing? First I've heard about it.

Spill!

Besides, the two Kheldian ATs take Natural and Science enhancements. If they stick to formula, the new ATs might draw from the remaining Magic, Technology, and Mutant origins. "Incarnate" sounds pretty Magical to me, and I remember back in alpha testing when States was described as having that origin.

[/ QUOTE ]
Statesman is of Natural Origin, but so is God. Go ask at church.

Upon Googling around for interviews and hoping to scoop some non-forum-released info on CoV, I came across some photos of the Cryptic lobby. It had a bunch of life-sized models of various NCSoft game icons.

There was a big bird-lady (looked rather like the harpies in WoW, actually) hanging out with one of the Hero statues. IIRC, the article stated that they had no idea where that birdperson came from.

So, recalling that one of the new ATs will be a winged one, I put 2 and 2 together and counted my chickens before they hatched.

Foreshadow is a Korean Hero that is reborn each generation, but who alternates between good and evil. The current incarnation is just beginning to recall and come to terms with the terrible things that his previous self did.

[/ QUOTE ]
Not to split hairs... but shouldn't his name be Flashback then?

:P

So, if Statesman is a Greek God or Titan

[/ QUOTE ]
I would say he's more of a diety's avatar rather than being a quote/unquote "god" himself.

[/ QUOTE ]

Eh, the concept of avatars isn't one that shows up in Greek Mythology, and the gods did tend to get their hands dirty much of the time. There's this weird modern Western barrier to the idea of a god in a work of fiction actually being fallible and directly involved in events, but that's the whole point of Greek mythology.

That said, I don't think that Statesman is a god.

Some problems I noted with the trailer.

Nothing major, just wanted to point them out. Love it to death.

1. The scrapper (or the martial arts guy, whoever he is) should run in front while statesman says "wait, wait lets stick together", then the scrapper should be the one beat up before the team meats the villians.

2. Also, I don't know if I saw a tanker there, but if the scorpion guy (I assume a brute) is able to taunt, he should say something like "hey lemme herd these guys, I think I can take em".

3. Synapse should attack the villians before the non squishies of the team initiate combat, using his most powerful attack, and possibly scatter them around the room.

Nothing critical there, just a minor devation from normal hero behavior.

With all this mythological discussion going, I'd like point out that "Chronos" and "Cronus" are two different mythological entities. "Chronos" was the personification of time (but not a god). "Cronus" was the titan. They started getting mixed together by later scholars who were confusing the two names, and our image of Father Time carrying a scythe is based on this combinated of the two (Cronus himself wielded a scythe and was later identified with the harvest, hence his later incarnation into Roman mythology as Saturn).

Maybe I'm being too simpilisitc but...

Zeus's Lightning + Incarnate = Zeus Incarnate?

I was fooling around with the concept the other day to make a character who's body was inhabited by the ancient spirit of Aries. Could Statesman be the same?

See, that's really cool! This kind of backstory needs to be apparent in the game, and not just to us forum lurkers!

[/ QUOTE ]

Workin on it.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm sure they'll relate the backstory on the villians and on Foreshadow the same way they've been relating the backstory so far: story arcs and taskforces. Yay! New content!

Zeus' Lightning?

How'd States get a hold of that? Cole ventured "to the far east" and "unlocked his inner will" IIRC.

Which is it Manticore?

[/ QUOTE ]

If you are quoting the website the paragraph actually reads:

Cole claimed to have unlocked the power of his own Inner Will, an obscure explanation at best. Whatever their true origin, it was undeniable that Cole possessed something that hadn't been seen since the age of the Greek Heroes: superpowers.

Note the word *claimed*

Statesman was clearly obfuscating there. As time has passed and he has shown no signs of aging, more questions are being asked. Issue 2 of the comic will give more details about Statesman and Issue 3 will bring the loathesome Lord Recluse's connection into sharp focus.

[/ QUOTE ]

From Dictionary.com:
ob·fus·cate - To make so confused or opaque as to be difficult to perceive or understand; To render indistinct or dim

Oh ok Manticore - now I got ya.

...It's been said that sometime after CoV launch Heroes and Villains can be redeem themselves back to the light or fall into the dark....

<Ka-Snip>
Now consider this Hero-Villain cross over. They won't just release patch notes saying Heroes can now become Villains and vice-versa. They will most likely wrap a story/event around it.

So could it possible be that Ghost, through a twist of fate or critical choice, goes Good Guy. And that some tragic event befalls Fore Shadow, where-by he is killed and comes back in his Bad Guy phase. Thereby opening up the crossover functionality?

So in the game world you would now have a new Hero with a Villain power set, and a new Villain with a Hero power set.

[/ QUOTE ]

I LIKE this idea!!!!!!!!

Gives some real storytelling functionality to the game... yeah, I know, people who just want to play for playing's sake who aren't story-nerds like me might think it's a drag, but the idea of a personal-crisis-based mission that actually transforms your character into a villian is a great one.

Don't know if they're actually going to do it this way, but I did want to let Matrix_Zero_One know that I, at least, think this idea rocks!

I can't help but notice that Captain Mako was voiced by Sean Fish.

[/ QUOTE ]

Errrrrr... yeah. This actually brings something up that I noticed yesterday. I recently bought the trade paperback that collects the first Savage Dragon Miniseries. Enjoyed reading it, but I noticed that in the second issue there's a shark-headed villian named "Mako."

Manticore or anyone else, are you aware of this character's existence? I really don't want you to have to Bastion/ Citadel the guy in mid-release.

Hey, speak for yourself, KaliMagdalene!

I think Statesman's a god! A wise and benevolent god. A god who'd never seek retribution against some lowly player like me for saying he wasn't a god. A god who'd take no notice of a little insect like me in his wonderful world! All hail Statesman!

- As the heroes run into the building and Manticore pulls back his bow, covering their rear, we should hear Synapse' voice crackle over their com units, "Oh, there's lots of guys in here. Oh crap! Help! Where the [censored] are you guys???

Oh and Synapse should have waited a full minute or so before responding to Statesman's request for scouting.

Also, mid combat someone should have gone "afk. bio"

Also Synapse should have been like "I found the boss.. anyone need a tp?"

Rofl.. this is fun:>

Edit: Oh Positron should have said "gather for AM", then said it multiple times, and started telling individuals who didn't gather to come in for AM specifically.

Its sounds to me like rather than States be the avatar of a greek god, the greek gods themselves were super..er.. peoples.

This is a moderatly common theme when a superheroverse trys to flesh out its history. Bascially to retrofit super beings into exsistance they take key figures from the past and point out that maybe they were metahumans that people mistook for gods.

In this case the Incarnate Epic AT would involve unlocking some ability, in some fashion in a manner that has always exsisted. So in 10,000 -5000 BC some dude named Thoth uncovered the method and made it quasi-public knowledge and BAM!!! Instant pantheon of Gods, and then somehow some greek dude got their hands on the knowledge and BAM!! Pantheon x2.

If so than Legba(?) the Admanstor, Heerat, Emerrth and a whole host of other CoH characters could be ancient and particular famous/powerful incarantes.

Statesman and Recluse could be a knew cycle of people uncovering this ancient knoweldge long lost knowldge and when players get to become Incarnates their characters somehow get access to this info/item.... Maybe it even some sort of ancient magic crystals that people might be interste in fighting over

Of course rather that just declaring states a god our modern would is to savvy and agonstic for that and see him for what he really is a really powerful gifted human. On the surface not a whole lot different then alot of recently cropping up people that have via magic, training or science this super abilites.

As for States "Zeus" ability if could just be an Homage to Zeus, perhaps he unlocked incarnate via some artifact left behind by Zeus.

I cannot play any toons past lvl12 without a good story...

Will you be introducing toon from regular people like myself? I especially like my Atlantian toon (from Atlantis).. You can probably read it in the database.

On Protector
Transcender - Atlantian whom fought in 1st Rikti War and has awaken after many centuries in stasis.

White Ninja - Ninja hunter.

Villian One - haha. A new toon I able making. I love the battlecry.

If I was Synapse, this is how the trailer would have went...

I am asked to scout the building first....

Synapse: Can I get a bubble? Give me all your purples and I will herd them.

Statesman: Nay, Just go.

Synapse: I know you guys just want me to get killed, so you can use your Vengeance or power later and grab all the xp. (Notice Statesman trying to touch Synapse's toon during the fight)

... Synapse runs into building and scout...

... team enters and find Synapse beaten up really bad

... Battle begins...

Synapse: Told ya, I could have herd them and using my BUILD UP, AIM, and NOVA on them...

On another note, the scattering of downed minions outside the base does look like the end result of a Nova (or Nova-equivalent).

Ditto. I was thinking "I heard that voice somewhere" but couldn't place it. I ended up thinking maybe he did a Transformer's voice. Just checked on the IMDB and that's not the case. But I did watch a bit of PowerPuff girls and used to do Mojo Jojo impressions to my kids, so that's what was eating in the back of my mind.
